Ive watched about 10 episodes of the third season. The captain is starting to develop into a stronger leader in the third year. The weakest character is the engineer's wife, who is a real "drag" on any positive energy in most any episode she appears. I wish they would give more parts to Quark. The relationship between Dax and the captain is interesting and the doctor with the engineer. The captain's second in command is all over the spectrum, strong or a sex pot or whatever. The episodes are often a copy from the Classic series vaults, and often weak. The most interesting relationship is the second in command with the security officier, who are friends, but those two work well together. I have a problem with the second in commands love interest with a religious figure on the home planet, who to me is a pervert. I dont admire hardly any of their prophet characters. The more parts they give Quark, generally the better the episode. The alien general and past commander of Deep Space Nine is a great character, as is the spy on board. They need more battle scenes with the fighting forces of the Dominion. More Romulians, or Borg, they need more action and fewer love interest episodes, which are silly and boring. Expand

This is the season where DS9 gets really good. The character development is excellent and with each new story they add new facets and develop the relationships. Storywise the Dominion arc is getting serious. You see the incoming conflict. Again we got a lot of interesting insights into Cardassians and Bajorans and a bit lesser into Romulans and Klingons. Also it is again mirror time in this season ;-). Character wise we get a lot of new development and the new characters Kasidy Yates, Michael Edington, Brunt and Gowron (Last one returns from TNG). All are excellent additions and I like what they will do with them. Especially Michael Eddigton and Gowron but this wont happen in this season. I will start here with my recommendations: “The Search part 1 and 2” Now it is getting serious. This sets the tone for the Dominion arc and has one of the most astonishing reveals of the show. Also the Defiant is added. The best ship of its size in Starfleet. “The House of Quark” for its excellent humor, Quark and the whole Klingon culture. A highlight episode. “Second Skin” for the idea, intensity, Kira and Ghemor and the resolve. Again a highlight. “Civil Defense” for the humor of the (really dangerous) situation, Dukat and the whole intensifying story. One of the best episodes of the show. “Defiant” for its plot and foreshadowing of events. “Past Tense part 1 and 2” This has grown on me. It is the mostly overlooked time travel episodes but it has a good and smart story that is an allegory. “Hearth of Stone” this is a critical episode for Odo and Kira and their relationship. “Destiny” A good story about prophecies and prejudices. “Visionary” This is O'Briens episode and a good time travel one. Solid work. “Through the looking Glass” The mirror universe is one of the best ideas in Star Trek. “Improbable Cause” and “The Die is Cast” are practically a two parter. Now it is getting serious. An intense story line with a clever resolve and impacts for the rest of the show. Also Odo and Garak are a perfect combination. A highlight of the show. “Explores” for the nice change in pace and character development between father and son. “Shakaar” for Winn who I love to hate, Shakaar and facing an abyss that can set Bajor of fire. “The Adversary” for the plot, menace and resolve that will have consequences. Overall a season full of highlight and really good episodes. Definitely worth watching. Expand
