Excellent show. Although the new episodes are no where near the metaphysical perfection that is the first season, they are still entertaining. I can proudly and accurately say that I've seen every episode.

I personally think, the show was better before the movie came out. All the episodes were actually funny and worth the watch. After the movie, all of the episodes have gone downhill and are completely idiotic, they are making the charachters too overboard and "don't know when to stop" with the unfunny points. They are running out of material and the show is running out of steam.

This show is awesome! So funny for kids and maybe some teenagers depends on their humour type. Still, this show has the humour of even possibly The Simpsons!

Spongebob SquarePants, in my eyes, has had 4 eras: The Nick Era, The Great era, The season 4 era, and the ughhh... era. When Spongebob first started out back in summer of 1999, it didn't try to set itself apart from the pther Nickelodeon shows airing at the time. I will review each season of the show, starting with The Nick era (season 1). What do I think of it? Of course I love the show. It's Spongebob SquarePants. Who didn't watch it? It was original, had nice characters, but most of all, it was fun. Do I need to describe the setting? You all should know it already. But this is a review, so I have to. The show takes place in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, and starrs Spongebob Squarepants, a happy, kid friendly sponge that no kid could resist. His passion is frycooking at the Krusty Krab with his "friend", Squidward, and greedy boss, Mr. Krabs. Along with his friend, Patrick Star and Sandy Cheeks, they go on adventures under the sea. At the time, season 1 Spongebob looked and felt like every other nick show at the time, although in my opinion, the show looks a bit awkward now than it does now. It looks awkwardly dark for some reason. The writing was decent, and it could make you laugh now and then, but it's nothing compared to what we would soon see. Tom Kenny does a nice voice for Spongebob, and everyone else is great as well. The only thing remotely wrong with the show at first season is how empty it feels sometimes. For example, in one episode, Spongebob finds a Jelly Fish and decides to bring it home and have a party. This results in a 2 or 3 minute dance scene where all they're doing is dancing...just dancing... there just something missing about the show that will make itbetter later on. I don't know if it's the writing, the animation, or the characters, something just seems out of place. Nevertheless, the first season of Spongebob Squarepants is merley a warm up of what was to come in The Great Era. Under "Spongebpb Square Pants season 1", go to season # and click on season 2/3 for the continuation of this review Expand

I think most people agree that this show is not like it used to be when Stephen Hillenburg leff the show. Although the recent episodes are a bit stupid, I can't ignore the simply PHENOMENAL pre-2004 episodes like "Survival of the Idiots" and "Band Geeks." The acting is always done well although the recent writing has suffered tremendously.

The hilarity is top-notch and the characters are memorable: Spongebob, the silly yellow sponge; Patrick, the stupid buffoon; Squidward, the grumpy clarinet-playing squid; Mr. Krabs, the greedy and selfish crab; Sandy, the karate-loving squirrel; and Plankton, the failure of a villian.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think spongebob is a great children's TV show. The show is full of laughs, the characters are hilarious, the plots are getting better and better, and as the viewers grow out of it, new ones get into it. If you are an adult who has kids who enjoy spongebob, you probably enjoy it too, if not you may notice, a lot of it makes no sense. For example, in the episode were plankton controls spongebob's mind to try and get the krabby patty, spongebob walks through squidward's bedroom which is on the bottom floor, but in other episodes his bedroom is on the top floor. Despite a few events making no sense, i think spongebob is a great show for kids and adults to enjoy! Expand

The situations are silly and the characters are all highly lovable. There's a perfect amount of logical fallacies that just add to the nonsensical atmosphere(like lighting a fire underwater). The mix between plot and jokes is wonderful in every episode. IMO, that's the change that made the biggest difference in the switch from Hillenberg to Tibbit. Now episodes are focused on creating a good plot, and then the jokes are lackluster or simply not present. Every single joke in Spongebob hits and hits hard. There's a lot of hidden humor for all ages(such as Spongebob telling Gary not to drop the soap). The animation is superb and the technical quality was pumped up for the second season. The voice acting is also incredible. The biggest strong point is the randomness. "She's so mysterious and majestic. Perhaps I should name her Mystery, or Majesty...or Debbie." And then when he attempts to befriend the seahorse, in one shot he has a mustache for absolutely no reason. There's also a lot of good cultural references and allegories. The most obvious one is the snowball fight episode, which is a reference to the Cold War.
Great jokes, great characters, great situations, great voice acting, great animation. Seasons 1-3 of Spongebob is simply the best cartoon to ever grace television, even above the Simpsons, Looney Tunes, and Adventure Time

SpongeBob Season 1 is fantastic. It has some of the most memorable characters, the best storytelling, and each episode is gag after gag. But waht's best of all is it achieves something few modern cartoons can do: Its enjoyable for not only kids, but teens and adults alike. That's something the newer episodes can't seem to pull off. The characters have become retarded, they're rehashing the same Krusty Krab plots over and over again, the humor is stupid, and the choreography sucks, but we'll get to that later. This is Season 1 right now. There are plenty of things that adults will laugh at like SpongeBob's relationship with Sandy or Mr. Krabs being sweaty or Mermaid Man forgetting everything. Also, the characters! SpongeBob is misguided and it is hilarious, Patrick is so stupid he's funny, Squidward is stuck in the middle of his idiotic neighbors, Mr. Krabs is greedy, Plankton TRIES to be evil, Sandy is awesome, and Gary is just plain cute. I love SpongeBob, and even though I'm in High School, he still holds a special place in my heart. I mean, after I watched the KCA in 1999, then after that Help Wanted aired, I was like, "Okay, I'm hooked". So there's my review of SpongeBob Season 1, arguably the best, but even better is yet to come. But before I move on to writing my Season 2 review, I want to list a few additional notes focusing on some individual episodes.
    My Top 5 Favorite Episodes:
    #5: Help Wanted
Reasoning: Its cult classic for the song, the cooking scene, the classic art style, and everything else.
    #4: SB-129
Reasoning: Prehistoric themed episodes are awesome!
    #3: Fools in April
    Reasoning: C'mon! Its holiday themed!
    #2: Naughty Nautical Neighbors
Reasoning: The interaction between SB, Pat, and Squid is like a three ring circus.
    #1: Arrgh!
Reasoning: The board game. Sweaty. Weest. Peg Leg. Looking at the Map. Gold Doubloons.
Episodes I have mixed or negative feelings about: (Mixed 4.1-7 Negative 4-0.1)
I have mixed feelings about Ripped Pants because it really overuses the in-joke about SpongeBob ripping his pants then actually putting out humor that the audience is laughing at, not the fish. 6.5/10
I have negative feelings about Squeaky Boots because there's not that many funny jokes and after a while those boots can get really annoying. 4/10
I have mixed feelings about Sleepy Time because sometimes the plot will drag and some of the dreams, like Gary's, seem a little too silly, but its still alright. 6.5/10
I have mixed feelings about Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy II and honestly I can't give a very clear answer. Maybe its just because it feels rehashed, because its clearly a sequel, but I'm really just not crazy about it. 6/10
Notes: Animation is not digitally colored. I actually kind of like it that way. Sure, it looks awful rough, but it looks classic. Still, I can see why some people prefer the Season 2-3 animation.
    Has 41 episodes.
Started May 1, 1999 with Help Wanted, Reef Blower, and Tea at the Treedome
Ended April 8, 2000 with Hooky and Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy II then took a 4 month break before starting Season 2 in October
Had overused-in-a-new-original-way like a lot of holiday themed episodes, a prehistoric episode, a lot of Jellyfishing episodes, Krusty Krab episodes, some bubble blowing episodes, and a few Goo Lagoon episodes.

I can remember 14 1/2 years ago when SpongeBob was brand new. I had just watched the KCA and then SpongeBob comes on. When I had first heard about this show, I was very skeptical of how good it would be. I thought it might be something retarded and be the downfall of Nick. It turned out I was quite wrong. As soon as I saw Help Wanted, I knew I was hooked. Now obviously, like any otherI can remember 14 1/2 years ago when SpongeBob was brand new. Now obviously, like any other cartoon, it still has it's faults like some rough animation and sometimes they focus almost too much on gags instead of a story, but it's still very funny. My favorite episode has got to be the one where Mr. Krabs makes SpongeBob and Patrick come on a treasure hunt with him and they all act like pirates. (the name isn't coming to me right now) A few other episodes I really enjoyed were Help Wanted, Naughty Nautical Neighbors, Pizza Delivery, and then the one where SpongeBob's house is eaten by worm creatures and Patrick tries to help him build a new house. Again, can't think of the name. Now, let me get some of my flaws out of the way; first off, the animation looked very rough, especially through the first quarter of the season. The coloring felt a little off, but luckily this was fixed in season 2 and even though all the new episodes suck, the animation still looks beautiful. Then I think sometimes they focus too much on the gags and jokes instead of the story. I know this show is supposed to make no sense whatsoever, but I still think they need to cut back on the jokes just a little bit. This is improved in season 2 where they actually have some serious or awesome moments like Sweet Victory in Band Geeks, and season 3, while some storylines are gimmicky, they still tell a complete story. So that's all my bad stuff with season 1. Really, this is just little stuff compared to how awesome the rest of the season is. And really, my flaws are stuff I actually like about the season. How many times can you say that with anything? Sure the animation sucks, but it still has this retro, classic charm to it. And it makes me feel like I'm 7 again instead of 21. Also, the episodes barely have a story, but thankfully they are the most hilarious episodes I've ever seen since they focus on the jokes. There are few episodes I didn't like in this season. The only episodes I thought were just okay were Ripped Pants and Bubblestand, and the only episode I really didn't like was Squeaky Boots because of the FREAKING ANNOYING boots! If you think about that, that's only 3 out of 40 episodes I didn't like. That's less than 10 percent of the episodes. If you ask me, that's pretty dang impressive. All in all, I love season 1. It's classic, it's funny, has just a few faults, and will always hold a special place in my heart. Expand

I absolutely adored this show as a kid, and I still enjoy it now. It has a mix of childish humor and some mature humor that I of course never noticed as a kid. Spongebob should be shown to all of the future generations (Except the new ones -_-). 10/10 (Masterpiece)

SpongeBob is a good show. I watch it a lot. I like the seasons 1-3 a lot! The newer ones are good but not as good as the first three seasons! I've seen all of them and they are really good!

Season 1-3 and some of 4 of spongebob was amazing! Funny it was and it's humor could appeal to anyone! The characters have good personality but after some good episodes of season 4 they became mediocre. I love this cartoon!

My favourite show as a kid! It still is one of my favourites. Especially the first 4 seasons, this show has got great characters, great laughs, great voice acting, and great scripting. I'll never forget my favourite underwater creature.

While not as funny as the show would become after this, this season is still a great start to a classic cartoon.

But honestly, I love SpongeBob. I've been watching him for about 5-6 years now, and I love the Sponge. In my opinion, He's just unhateable.

This show is pure genius, it's hilarious for kids and adults alike, its pace's perfection is inspired by god itself, the majority of the episodes in this season have the perfect length to keep me engaged, the humor made me laugh my ass off when I was a kid, and still makes me laugh my ass off as an adult, structure-wise, there's no other cartoon show that will come closer to perfectionThis show is pure genius, it's hilarious for kids and adults alike, its pace's perfection is inspired by god itself, the majority of the episodes in this season have the perfect length to keep me engaged, the humor made me laugh my ass off when I was a kid, and still makes me laugh my ass off as an adult, structure-wise, there's no other cartoon show that will come closer to perfection than Spongebob's first seasons.
The characters deserve their own paragraph because they're so damn good. At first glance you'll maybe dismiss the characters as being one-dimensional and bland, but upon further engagement on the brilliant storylines, you'll come to find that they have passions, emotions, desires, insecurities, and they feel way more human than 99% of other cartoon characters despite having a strong emphasis on their primary characteristics.
Stephen Hillemburg's death is really a loss to this world, for this creative mastermind made the childhood and possibly even adulthood of many people way better with a simple cartoon, and the first 4 seasons are the creme de la creme when it comes to quality animation, super F for Stephen.

Season 1 is hands down the best season of Spongebob ever. Nearly every episode that is memorable or has memorable moments came from this season. Watching back episodes from this season reminds me of my early childhood whenever I used to watch this when I was a kid and it still made me laugh years later to the point I felt like a kid again watching this. Watching back episodes from this season reminds me of my early childhood whenever I used to watch this when I was a kid and it still made me laugh years later to the point I felt like a kid again watching this. The art style is definitely the best in this season I would say and the 2nd and 3rd. The first season and the next two would definitely show why Spongebob is one of the greatest cartoons of all time with every episode being full of creativity and unexpected happenings which makes watching this cartoon worth it without regret.

If you haven't watched Spongebob, 1) You're missing out 2) I definitely recommend watching this season.

The beginning, ever since the first episode it has thrived. While seasons 5-8 aren't generally liked this season was the start of something great.

All this may not make sense on paper—or anywhere else—but creator Steve Hillenburg (schooled in marine biology as well as animation) has made it a continuing comic delight, wildly imaginative yet never too clever for its own good.
