Season 3 Review:
Sometimes a benign comedy, like Mackenzie Crook’s Detectorists, can really do the business. And that applies to Somebody Somewhere (out on Sky Comedy/Now), which has done its own beautiful thing for two series, with a third and final one now arriving quietly, unobtrusively and rather brilliantly.

Season 1 Review:
Everett and Hiller are the dominant forces within “Somebody Somewhere,” but the supporting cast is compelling. ... If you’ve ever just driven around with your bestie on a Sunday looking for something to do, and what you did was boring but you two connected, “Somebody Somewhere” captures the singularity of that experience.

Season 2 Review:
For all its emotional depth, Bos and Thureen’s series has gotten funnier this time around too. Grief, fear of rejection, and uncertainty are still present in these people’s lives, but there’s more to laugh about, especially between Sam and Joel. ... Sublime, small comedy.

Season 2 Review:
It feels improvised, as if this conversation over a bottle of Pinot Grigio would play out exactly like this even if we weren’t watching. This is the beauty of Somebody Somewhere. ... Where Succession and Barry can reach almost Shakespearean heights of intensity with their big, dramatic twists and metaphorical as well as literal violence, Somebody Somewhere is deliberately small and focused. ... Somebody Somewhere has a way of reminding you to feel grateful for every molecule of oxygen that’s still filling your lungs.

Season 2 Review:
Somebody Somewhere has that settled-in feeling that make good shows become terrific shows in their second seasons. Some characters may be gone, but the show’s comedic core and its heart are still there, and we’ll follow its slice-of-Midwest-life vibe for the entire season.

Season 1 Review:
“Somebody Somewhere” is a true masterclass in not just crafting authentic, nuanced characters and building a fully engrossing world, but also naturalistic dialogue. ... Across the board, the characters so endearing that their charm does a great deal to obfuscate the show’s flaws, particularly a mid-season plot that teeters on the edge of overly sparse. Plotlines fade in and out or even disappear entirely.

Season 1 Review:
Lovely and eccentric. ... “Somebody Somewhere” can be generous to a fault, in that Sam’s struggle gets lost at times as other stories in the ensemble are foregrounded. But I see this broad focus mostly as a strength, giving the season a depth (over a quick seven episodes) that feels as if it could sustain the series for a long run.

Season 3 Review:
The highlights of this final season—the moments that will stick with you after the credits roll—don’t come in the form of these highs or lows, these giggle fests or friend-to-friend therapy sessions. There are a few genuinely sweet scenes—not too many to dull the emotional wallop—that will surely make you well up, notably a performance of a song Brad and Sam wrote for Joel and a few key, strategically placed interactions with a new character.

Season 1 Review:
Very little happens over the course of the seven-episode season, but this is the point. ... The smallness of the stories helps capture the aimlessness Sam feels — noting that she and Joel are already in their forties, she suggests of their dreams, “It’s not going to happen, and it’s definitely not going to happen here” — while making the little victories and minor defeats ring out much more loudly than if Sam’s life were a nonstop thrill ride.
