Summary:
Shikabane are the living dead who still walk the earth because of a strong attachment to the living world. As such they act on this attachment and often attack and kill human-beings.
Shikabane Hime are also the living dead but by corming a contract with a priest of the Kougon Cult they are able to retain their humanity. They are used by the Cult as weapons to hunt and destry Shikabane, and if the Hime can reclaim 108 souls they will ascend to heaven.
Hoshimura Makina is a Shikabane Hime but unlike the rest she does not fight to go to heaven but instead to get revenge for the death of her family.
Tagami Keisei is a Buddhist priest of the Kongon Clan, and also the contracted priest of Makina.
Kagami Ohri is the adopted brother of Keisei and after a chance encounter with Makina begins to get drawn into the strange world of Shikabane, a world that he must learn to survive and quickly.
