May 24, 2019Another empowering and colourful valentine to Mr. Lee's beloved Gotham. The medium is occasionally used to highlight various social plights but it never distracts from the central plot strands of this idiosyncratic delight. Another winning season.
-
Unconvincing as breezy sitcom or weighty satire, Season 2 of She’s Gotta Have It diverges further from Lee’s romance-centric source material but offers its protagonist little imaginative recourse. Absent the guiding conflict of Nola’s polyamory, the new season of She’s Gotta Have It fills those gaps in her life with troubling misrepresentations of several social issues. ... The resulting mess feels like a chore to watch.

There’s too much life, color, beauty and music in “She’s Gotta Have It” for any solo annoyance to completely detract from the pleasure it gives, and it’s still worth your time, if not necessarily by way of a speedy consumption.
-
Nola’s stance as an artist isn’t that interesting, and making it the focus of the entire season makes for uninteresting TV. ... Overall, it’s hard to say why any of it is happening or if we really needed this extension of She’s Gotta Have It to happen.
