    The voice acting? Amazing. The story? Outstanding. The characters? Breathtaking. The twists, turns and nail-biting suspense that the show is known for? Yes ma'am. She-Ra is back, and it's better than ever.

    She-ra and the Princesses of Power takes a toy commercial from the 80's and imbues it with character, depth and sincerity. Animation can be off at times, but feel more of an homage to the original series than a flaw, while voice acting is on point for the entire cast.

    This show makes me incredibly happy. All characters are multi-dimensional and the 'evil' ones are sympathetic. the cast is beautifully reflective of its audience. I see myself in, and am empathetic to the plight of many of its characters. I can't wait to see where this show takes us.

It also does a better job of filler episodes, although there a couple episodes that are little basic, but hey it's a kids show. It's gonna happen.

    The main cast is good. The big trio of Adora, Bo, and Glimmer is    I found this to be a smartly written reboot of the 80s cartoon.     The main cast is good. The big trio of Adora, Bo, and Glimmer is very strong from the start, though it is Bo who usually steals the show as a likable goober. I was surprised how fun and relatable the villains are. Adora's friend turned rival. Catra has her own group and they are surprisingly humorous. Catra and Adora's shared traumatic past is probably the most dramatic part of the show and really pays off. It's also refreshing to see the main/serious villain of the show Hordak played as reasonable and smart rather than a traditional short-tempered mustache-twirler. Only weak spot is that this show is overpopulated with supporting character princesses and most of them aren't as interesting as the main characters.

    Not the biggest fan of the animation. No, I'm not one of those people complaining about the fact that they redesigned the character, I'm just not the biggest fan of this particular over-simplified art style. The character's chins are too long and there is something about the arms and legs that's off but I can't put into words why. Though I do give the show props for for featuring more various and realistic body types rather than promoting the kind of unhealthy view that heroines have to be slim. The backgrounds are flat in terms of animation style and color scheme, but they do put a lot of detail into them.    … Expand

    I went to watch this show with mixed expectations, due to some negative opinion of "fans" on it - but I got really pleasantly surprised!     This is one of my favorite animated shows of this year.
    I went into this show going blind because i just wanted something i have seen before to watch. After the first 3 episodes i was really engaged and wanted to know what happens next.

    One of the biggest strengths is the characters, chemistry, and character development. The main character, Adora, having to deal with her life long friend, Catra, after she leaves the horde. Catra isn't just a simple villain, she and Adora have a complex chemistry that only grows throughout the show. Adora and Catra both grow into interesting characters whom both have had a similar childhood but now they're splitting and growing into their own character made by their choices.

    It's an over all fun, enjoyable, and cheerful experience that'll keep you glued to the screen to kind out what happens next. And i really can't wait for season 2.    … Expand

    Analog to Avatar: the last aibender, the show is well animated and well written. Music could be better, but it´s ok. All and all, it´s a great reboot, renewing the tale to the current generations

    I love this show! and so super exited that its getting a second season. Its really fun, playful and colourful. The characters are amazing and interesting. Definitely worth a watch.

    Didn't think I'd bother with this, gave it ten minutes and ended up binging the lot. It's great – so much better than the original, particularly the dynamic between the main arch-nemesis two characters.

It has a couple of flaws, in my opinion the animations looks like it was made on a tight budget, despite still being enjoyable to watch, and I wish we saw more resistance on Adora's side, to leave all her friends behind after discovering the Horde's true intentions, she didn't think twice before abandoning them and only seemed to remember about them after Catra went to rescue her from the friends she had made hours/days before. It still doesn't make sense to me. It's really good, overall, and i recommend it, just don't go in expecting it to be like 80's She-ra, because it isn't.

    These older viewers talking about nostalgia probably didn't even watch or remember the uninspired original show made to sell toys for kids with characters that looked exactly the same. The remake honours the weak original material and improves on it. If you like the original so much, you can always rewatch it .    … Expand

    It's a well-written show with likeable characters and a linear plot. That's hard to come by in a cartoon these days. Definitely worth watching.

    It's a very enjoyable show. The characters feel like normal people with their insecurities and hopes. I really recommend this if you want to watch something that is well-done.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Take in mind that it's episodic, but the first episodes are serialized, first impressions might criticize ut as such.
    In order to counter-argument many wrong opinions, this review is intended for those who watched the series.
    first off there's the comparisons to avatar, from the most obvious first, i will mention the argument and then how much of it is true and why:
    1_ Sea-Hawk and Mermista are Zooka and Katara rip-offs (i bought it up this time, but someone is probably gonna say it):
    Of course that Sea Hawk is a one-liner Zooka with a comical accent and no weapon, and of course they have a zooka because there was someone with water powers, but mermista is nothing like katara, Sea-Hawk has his moments though, but still costing the show one point.
    2_ Adora is a poorly executed Zuko: The original She-ra had a similar backstory, though i'll still argue with a specific critic here, on how Lily Orchard said that Adora should have fought the rebellion before redeeming, that the change of side was rushed, and that it made no sense for that reason.
    First off? it does make sense:
    She had only trained in the horde, she had never caused someone's death, she though she was on the good side. But when she discovered she was not, she took time to accept that reality, but she couldn't let go of her best friend and the good times she had at the horde, that has been holding her back for the entire season, it's like that scene from El Chavo del 8 where El chavo is told that each time he breathes a Chinese dies, and he stopped breathing until it was explained to him that he doesn't kill people by breathing.
    2,3: she-ra should have fought the rebelion before switching sides.
    no, if that happened She-ra could only be accepted in the rebelion with a forced "it's the only thing we could do" after keeping her captive for a while, and one of two events could follow that:
    A_ She-Ra learns her abilities rushedly and seemingly out of nowhere to restore the power of the other princesses.
    B_ Having She-Ra make the Horde retreat all on her own, she just can't. and then having her learn how to restore the power of the princesses in a temple as it should be.
    AND_ in both cases the horde could just take with them the source of power of the princesses, safe and out of She-Ra's reach, only one could be saved, and though getting a single one back would open the possibility of saving the others as well, the main villain wouldn't allow it, he would show up before She-Ra is even prepared to fight him, or the show could ignore the fact that this could happen and just have an arc for each one restored, which would be interesting, but it's stilted writing.
    _2,7: Adora's redemption was rushed:
    Giving her the sword was the only way for the story to progress and the decision made sense, she was still suspicious and the show knew it and displayed it.
    _3: The show should have explained things in the first episode:
    yes, it should have been explained earlier, another point down for my score, the explanation was stuck between character development and the introduction of characters and made the show seem better on later episodes at the cost of a bad first impression.
    _4: The story is bad:
    The story in this show is used as a tool to rush into the best aspect of the show: character development and conflict between characters (as of season one, add "character introductions" to that), much better than shows that rush into fights or stories, the positive-negative scale here is equilibrated.
    _5: The show is unwilling to commit to the LGBT representation:
    it's not, it's just subtle and casual about it, things like the words used by a character, lines that express it, same gender teasing and much more, but enough subtle things to be direct, or even doubtfully subtle, children wouldn't notice, they're not the audience the representation is aimed at, so the representation won't be shown explicitly, that's a good thing, still many criticize it for even the subtle things, this isn't "propaganda", if it was it would be way less subtle and casual, if you think it's too much LGBT you just can't stand LGBT, it's not a flaw on the show, but you.
    _6: characters are unrealistic and bland:
    No, they're just not the stereotypes we're all used to, except for Sea Hawk and those who are a stereotype we are used to. As a example, there is Entrapta, who is autistic and has ADHD.
    _7: the old designs were better.
    No, the old designs are your everyday unrealistic standard for womans, the new ones are more realistic and just better overall, though Catra is a cat, but there's a reason behind that design choice.
    _8: fight scenes are boring:
    They're not what the show is aiming for, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power isn't about battles, if you want good fights this isn't what you're looking for.
    _verdict: 8,5 out of 10, rounded down for Meta-Critic, i ain't taking a entire point down for a single character if he is different enough, and he is (not defending it).    … Expand

    She-ra does a good job portraying a wide array of unique and interesting character designs, all with unique personalities. I do wish the supporting cast were shown a touch more depth, but first seasons often tend to skim a bit shallow before diving deeper.

    But overall She-ra's characters, world building and overall narrative chug along and a solid pace and make for an entertaining watch. It gives the princesses a bit of an introduction and exposition. Though it does feel a bit light for how prominent they are meant to be. Another personal flaw is the first arc feels a bit short. It should have gotten 2 extra episodes to let Adora, She-ra and her revelation to go to the Rebellion marinate a bit longer as it does feel abrupt.

    The animation is attractive and solid. The character designs are charming and the environments follow suit. I wouldn't call it the show's strong point but it fits the overall tone quite well. It's not a high budget show, so don't expect Avatar level choreography. Nor does it try aping She-ra's old aesthetic of ultra detailed images that posed and moved jerkily because they opted for poses and not fluid animation.

    As mentioned before, the moralizing's pretty generic: Friendship, coming of age and isolation vs community. This is not identity politics, this is classic cartoon fantasy morals 101. The show does portray characters and princesses of varying body types and skin tones, taking a wise approach of showing them as a matter of fact. It doesn't even mention whether skin color is an issue, hell, there are half humans out there and it doesn't even nod to an issue with half scorpions and Khajit like half cats. If anything it could be condemned for passing over the subject matter.

    Because idiots just slap a 1 review without bothering to watch it, I gave it a 10. If people want to be stupid, I shall provide counterweights.

    The hate's largely because they think it's an "Identity politics" show.

    The Truth: It's a kids show filled with friends, adventure and coming of age. It's seriously lacking in any "beat you over the head" moralizing aside from "don't be evil" and "friendship is important" which is something nearly every fantasy show tells you. By the She-ra haters standards I guess identity politics has infected Lord of the Rings too since it promotes globalism (Fellowship amongst different races?!) and inter racial marriage (Elves and humans marrying?!!).     One of the best cartoons of the year. The writing is clever, unpredictable, and isn't out of place.     There are strengths and weaknesses to the new She-ra. The strengths are the portrayal of female characters in a modern era. The weakness is the animation and character design. Now I'm not saying the characters need to be portrayed as ultra feminine or sexy, its a kid show, but practical things like She-ra's helmet is now a dumb looking tiara, and rather than giving her a skort, why notThere are strengths and weaknesses to the new She-ra. The strengths are the portrayal of female characters in a modern era. The weakness is the animation and character design. Now I'm not saying the characters need to be portrayed as ultra feminine or sexy, its a kid show, but practical things like She-ra's helmet is now a dumb looking tiara, and rather than giving her a skort, why not battle armour. Also Glimmer and Bow look straight out of Steven Universe, why not a more original design? The animation also is a bit lack-luster.     I grew up with the original serie at the 90's and have to said this version its better in all sense, have much better animation and narration than the first serie. Don't eat to the haters many we remeber many things of our childhood much better than really they were. come on people! you should give a oportunity to this serie.

    The characters of this show are the real selling point. The complicated, often sad, story of Adora and her adoptive sister/ ex-best friend Catra had me enthralled from beginning to end. For those two alone I would recommend this show as a must watch for this decade. The other characters though are no slouches either.

    Looking at the stills before hand I was worried about the animation style but it looks great.

    Surpassing the low bar set by recent He-Man reboots, this delightful little series tells a basic, if compelling, story involving a diversity of characters.

    The controversy of the tomboy nature of the lead character or the raging at the shows political correctness shows a tone-deafness to the original series, as well as the need for such shows in this day and age.

    any fan of the original she-ra with half a heart will adore it. i had the slightest reservation about the art style from the poster ad and teaser trailer, but she-ra is in good hands. the adora / catra dynamic is the anchor of the show and the new princess reveals each episode keep the character interactions fresh and unpredictable. these are vibrant reinventions of, let's be honest,any fan of the original she-ra with half a heart will adore it. i had the slightest reservation about the art style from the poster ad and teaser trailer, but she-ra is in good hands. the adora / catra dynamic is the anchor of the show and the new princess reveals each episode keep the character interactions fresh and unpredictable. these are vibrant reinventions of, let's be honest, somewhat dated and nostalgia infused characters. but the nostalgia continues! the mythology of the first ones and first princess rebellion add depth to the world building of etheria, and some characters are just wooden enough to be throwbacks (i'm looking at you, grizzlor!) the humor, heart, and gravitas give the princesses of power a levity and an edge that feels both familiar, and earned. i was worried it would be a kid’s show that this 40+ year old fan of the original couldn’t appreciate, but i love everything about this reboot. the perfect anecdote to these dark times.

    oh, and if you are trying to ruin it for your kids, yammering on about identity politics, entrapta would like to take a look at your brain!    … Expand

    Watched it while baby-sitting my niece. Not even she liked it. For my part, I found it really tried to shove its tiresome ideology down your throat in every scene to the point I wanted to scream. We switched over to Bob's Burgers quite quickly.

    The writing was shallow and predictable, the story so far has been lacking in originality, large parts feel like they have been ripped from older better shows, the animation is sloppy and jerky, its unpolished and really takes away from the effort the backgrounds have, the characters are 2D stereotypes that are unbelievable as characters

    The show is a fun for kids and kids at heart. Pretty standard fantasy affair but it does a few things quite well. The relationship between the main character and rival is engaging with a well thought out motivations for both parties. The lore is intriguing so far, if a bit cliche. If you like high fantasy adventures, She-Ra is worth checking out.

    I don't find any of the characters particularly likeable. Bow is an immature teen, Glimmer is practically the same personality - seriously lacks judgement, maturity and all the characteristics that made the original character a good role model in the original series.

    The characters barely look anything like the characters in the original series (who at least looked human). The characters aren't well drawn and should have took inspiration from the quality of the original characters rather than create bland, flat characters who come across as quite plain.

    If I am brutally honest I'd say I am struggling to find a reason to like this series. It comes across as too anime and bland.

    Part of the appeal of the original series was each episode served as a lesson with something to learn from it. None of the characters really grow and it just comes across as a poorly planned series which needs to go back to the drawing board.

    I went into the reboot with an open mind, but it's abandoned a lot of what made the original series inspiring and likeable. It was quite a pathetic effort on the part of Dreamworks - I expected better attention to an existing property considering how good they usually are.    … Expand

    The Biggest issue with She-Ra reboot is how unnecesary it feels: Story is unnoriginal, the pacing is weird and the dialog is hit or miss. Compared to other netflix animation production it feels like a budget and poorly planned effort, not on par with Voltron or Castlevania where action scenes are outstanding, everything related to action, in She-ra feels bland and boring. I can´t recomend it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All the male characters are incompetent posers, all the women characters can do no wrong. It's actually very boring, and not a lot happens. The Horde never feels like a real threat, and the Rebellion comes off as not really knowing what they are doing. There is a major plot hole in the timeline; Glimmer and the other Princesses of Power's parents had a Great Alliance that the Horde apparently broke decades ago. So, why does the Horde seem like they have just arrived and set up shop just before Adora defects? Also, the link between Greyskull, Light Hope and the First Ones is not really explored at all. They have a few episodes where the characters stumble into First Ones' ruins but it's used for cheap shots at Google Assistant (no, really!) and very little is actually discovered.

    I also somehow think that the writers and producers have very little contact and/or experience with kids. If you look at the other hit shows like Paw Patrol or Peppa Pig, they are based on episodes that can be picked up and watched over and over again because there is no story arch that stretches over the whole series. The original Masters of the Universe understood this, too. She-ra has no such consideration and so the ability to choose a favorite episode and re-watch it five or six times (talking about kids here) is absent.    … Expand

    This is nothing like the cartoon i grew up with. This cartoon isnt even a farcry of what it was. She-ra in this cartoon reminds me of Hank from the venture brothers in a dress. Im sorry to see hank let himself go like this.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For the honour of Greyskull: let's start with the good.

    - Fairly faithful to the original design, such as Swiftwind's wings, She-ra's outfit, Shadow Weaver, Hordak, the backgrounds, Bow's weird midriff thing (yes, fellow reviewers, that was in the original as well: don't freak out), general colour schemes etc.
    - More or less faithful to the origin story as well: Adora, in 1985, did start out as a Force Captain for Hordak's Evil Horde until He-Man saved her. She has the same position and revelation as back then, so no issues here. (the omission of He-Man is a blessing: imagine how poorly done he'd have been)
    - The voice acting is... decent.
    - The character diversity is perfectly fine.

    And now... for the bad, which is why this is only a 4.
    - Animation style and quality is quite low: it looks like something cheap on Cartoon Network, with very flat, sharp designs.
    - The music is so-so.
    - Adora's transformation into She-ra is... odd. See, Adora is quite clearly female: she's got the right curves, and her facial design is clearly feminine. But when she becomes She-ra, she becomes... mannish. Very much so, in fact. Her shoulders and waist become more rectangular, thus giving her a more masculine look, her face gets squarer, and her general increased size lends a certain... androgynous feel to her design. It is like the animators went for something with She-ra's clothes and hair, but a teenage boy's body. It's weird.
    - Ironically, Glimmer, being drawn as a heavy girl, has the power that lets her skip physical exercise.
    - Boys are stupid, girls rule.
    - Adults are even stupider, teens rule.
    - This is not "our generation's Avatar: the Last Airbender". This is so far from ATLA, it may as well be... Korra. Yeah, I said it: it's as bad as Korra. Not based on animation, of course, but story and characters (of course, we have yet to see if Adora or Glimmer turns out to be a raging b*tch like Korra was from episode 1 to... book four?)
    - She-ra transformation solves everything. Oh no, we're about to die! She-ra walks in, shiny, swings her sword, everything is solved. Also, her fighting prowess is so inconsistent.

    All in all, it's... eh. There are better shows, the original included, but it's not a zero.    … Expand

    Weak pandering to demographics that never cared about the show. Another great legacy, great character, a role model to girls around the world to aspire for greatness, to be better laid down on altar of PC culture. If you have daughters spare them this abomination. Good one NPCs. You won another battle. What next would you want to destroy?

    Another dreadful remake of a classic. WHY can't we have anything new anymore and leave beloved franchises alone. Watch the original, it's great.

    This must be DreamWorks Animation's B team working on this show because the animation quality is far below what I would expect from DreamWorks. I never really watched the original, but from what I have seen of the original 80's TV show it also had low-cost animation. I can't say one is better than the other, but I can say I expect better quality animation in this day and age (EspeciallyThis must be DreamWorks Animation's B team working on this show because the animation quality is far below what I would expect from DreamWorks.     I am disappointed. I was expecting more. The only thing that I like is the storyline between She-ra and Catra. Every story has a hero and a villain. They just added some drama. What I like most about the original She-ra version is the moral/life-lesson that is imparted at every end of the show. Both show is about fighting so a little life-lesson is a really good idea, especially whenI am disappointed. I was expecting more. There are more normal life and social interaction in the original than I see in most cartoons. You see a lot of different types of people (old, young short, tall, thin and so forth) interacting with one another similar to real-life. There is more depth in the story. Yes, the new She-ra is for the very young, but they did went all the way with it. I don't really see any diversity, except they added more characters of different ethnicity. I missed the original She-ra. She shows a lot of examples of strength of character and moral compass when confronted with difficult situations. I also like the fact that the comic characters look more life-like in the original, and not looking like an ani-me. You can tell a lot of work and preparation was put into it. They just don't make cartoons like they used to. I have a feeling the people, involved in the new She-ra version, did not watch the Original She-ra from the very beginning. I think they just watch the end to get a feel of the characters, and decided to make their own story. I said that because the characters "Perfuma" and "Marmista" were introduced closer to the end of season 1, if I am not mistaken. I watched She-ra on Netflix all the time, when they have not excluded it yet. I remembered the episode that Perfuma and Marmista was first introduced, and it was one of the most funniest original She-ra episodes. I had fun watching it. I think I will look for the original She-ra on DVD.… Expand

    As a late 80's child, and wathing the original series when it was rerun in 90's decade, this version is just a shame. A spit on the faces of nostalgics and a dangerous propaganda for the childs of today.

    In rebooting the beloved series, Stevenson has created something special, a cartoon that both honors and improves on the original by amplifying its characters’ feelings, and emits equal parts electricity, joy, and warmth. Like its titular hero, She-Ra is so full of heart that it’s easy to recognize its humanity, even with all the super-powered hijinks going on.

    Stevenson honors the basic plot layout and the birthday-cake radiance of old-school She-Ra. But the original cast of characters has been casually diversified, and newly illustrated to boldly suggest human beings have all shapes and sizes.
