A tremendous improvement over season 1. Season 1 started rough, there is no denying that. It improved toward the end, however, and just kept getting better in season 2, especially when the new showrunners took over.

The writers have settled in and understand the characters now. The actors have improved tremendously now that the writing isn't so clunky (even Kat McNamara, objectively the weakest actor, turns in a few stellar performances, especially in the season 2 finale.) Particularly brilliant are Alan Van Sprang and Will Tudor in their charismatic and charged roles as the villains.

Where this show really shines, however, is in its metaphorical handling of topical subjects. This season deals quite forthrightly with the villain as a would-be genocidal fascist dictator, and with the authoritarian governing body who oversees the supernatural world as an oppressive entity toward the minority races of the supernatural world. Particularly brilliant is episode 2x13, "Those of Demon Blood" which takes all these issues and tackles them head-on, including parallels to one character's family history with the Holocaust and another's experiences as a Black person dealing with law enforcement in America.

Absolutely wonderful. Not to be missed.

When Shadowhunters: The mortal instruments premiered last season, I was overwhelmed by fear. I was afraid that the show, inspired in the books I love so much, would suck. For a few episodes, it did. But somehow it got better, although not perfect. The dialog was choppy and obvious and some interactions felt awkward and forced. The special effects were also dreadful. But this season, this season I feel hope, I feel hope because it got way better! The action is better, the acting is better, the special effects are better! The dialog still needs work, but as of now, its an improvement, a glimmer of light amongst an ocean of dark. I am feeling very positive about this season, so, let's wait! Expand

Season Two is a huge improvement from Season One. Perfect. The cast got so much better, so did the special effects. The plot is not messy and the characters are deeper, the pace is appropriate. Watch it and you won't regret it. Plus, Malec of course.

This show is still one of my favorite supernatural tv shows ever. This season is even better than the first one. The visuals are still spectacular. The whole cast continues to gives fantastic performances.

Season 2 of shadowhunters is amazing! The quality of the show really improved after season one and with the change of the show runners.

The show improved so much, from special effects to acting to storyline. It's a shame that most of the people stopped watching after the few episodes of s1, because this season is really good. It doesn't follo the books but there are lots of scene that come from them so it's always a pleasure to see a bit of the books in the show.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is becoming ridiculous. Even with a great story and plot source the show is not really trying to make sense. Dialogues haven't improved. Clarys behaviour still irrational. Then this guy Jace. He had so many opportunities to kill Valentine but didn't. Ok. understandable, he thought the big bad guy is his father. Point taken. Then at the episode when Valentine (again) invades the Institute (again so easy) in order to activate the Soulword. Ok, Clary said she wouldn't go close to it, but she did. And then when Jace and Simon fought Valentine and two of his henchman, Jace killing Valentines man and Simon knock off Valentine (he was unconscious), Valentine was lying on the floor. Jace and Simon were armed with sword and knife. What do they do? Oh, they need to find the sword instead of killing Valentine, who caused all this trouble since the beginning and wanted to commit mass murder and destruction to the world. No, they left him on the floor to find the sword, accidentally igniting it to let Valentine get the sword and killing off hundreds of incoming downworlders. But ok. Jace got the sword back, fighting Valentine, this time he won the upper-hand and Clary shut off the sword. But what did she do? the throws the sword on the ground and ran to Jace. OMG!!! saying "oh, we lost the sword again.....". Well, is this good Television? I don't think so. Expand
