This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sex Education used to be fun to watch for seasons 1 and 2. But season 3 had far too much pain and hopelessness and had entirely too many plot lines which made them shallow. I just finished watching Season 3, and I can't think of a single character that survived unscathed. It felt like Netflix borrowed writers from 13 Reasons Why...putting the fun, giddy, characters and actually twisting the plots to inflict such pain. I kept waiting for a suicide. It was too heavy and had way too many arguments and breakups. It list all the fun. Very disappointing. Expand

With a raw and emotional beginning of this season, most of the characters have a good development throughout the whole show. Hope they continue at least with one more season and not ruining it with a movie which only purpose is to end a lot of stories in an hour and a half.

Sex education is, for me, one of the best currently running TV shows. Whilst its plot is good its best aspect is 100% its characterisation. It is soooo good at being relatable and believable. I genuinely don't think there's characters I 100% hate; everyone has their own motivations and, even when I dislike them, I can at least see why they are the way they are. One of the main issues I have with teen dramas is that they can be a bit melodramatic and OTT. Sex education just avoids this so well, the vast majority of issues that come up are a) either something I've dealt with directly or b) something that I know other people irl have dealt with. I think this is what makes the show so powerful - its just so relatable and never forces me to suspend my belief unnecessarily. I just love it, the journey of each character is just so well written and plotted. I love a show with amazing characterisation and this show is the best of the best for that. Expand

One of the best shows on TV now. However, like many other hit shows, once it made it past season one it really cut back on the nudity. (How everyone seems to have sex all the time while never getting naked is beyond me.)

Still, great acting and storylines. The only downside is the networks idiotic decision that a "season" these days consists of a mere 8 episodes. "Seasons" used to be

"Seasons" used to be what, 26 episodes and often 1 or two extras like a Christmas episode.

Soon we'll be lucky if a "season" has more than 1 new episode every 3 months.

Sparks of brilliance such as otis mom's relationship or mr.groffs growth aren't given the attention they deserve. Instead maeve's tired "will they won't they "(but u know they will) thing with otis is insufferable and robs the story of enjoyment. Eric still remains compelling. I'm glad he's given dimensions through not always being the good positive selfless gay guy but makes selfish harsh decisions. I love that Adams growth happend independent of Eric and he wasn't just made a Top but a verse. Those parts of the season could argue on the shows favour. But it wasn't enough to apologize for the unnecessary school headmaster defiance plot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sex Education - Season 3:
I'll start by saying it's my least favourite season yet I think? Don't get me wrong, it's still good, even pretty great, but it's more flawed and least well rounded of the three, I think some characters here are well developed and better than previous seasons but I also think some of them are worse off than before.

Adam was the best character this season honestly, and I think that's quite a popular opinion. His actor gives the best performance of the lot, it took a little more subtlety since he's more of a closed off character with a lot of built up emotions and pressure, he's a good facial and body performer so to able to read his emotions so clearly with such little dialogue, it's actually pretty impressive. My second favourites were probably Cal and Jackson as a duo, they had great chemistry and the non-binary representation was great and a good step forward for the show to further educate its audience, even if some of the dialogue was a little wonky here and there, the actors and their chemistry was enough to carry it and get them off with some rusty lines here and there.

Other than character stuff, one thing I loved this season was the use of licenced music. I think they stepped this aspect up from las t season as a lot of the songs coincided lyrically with what was going on in the story so they put a little more thought into the song choices which I loved. Another little minor detail I absolutely loved here was the use of mirrors in certain shots, the way they used it to show a divide in relationships or a distance between characters was genuinely really cool and inventive and I think it's just one example of them stepping up the composition of shots a little this season, even if not by much, it's very appreciated. They did step it up with both the cinematography and symbolism this season, I'll give it that.

However, one thing I did notice was this glaring general formula for the show that it seems to be following now. It works, sure, but it does start to make this one feel a little repetitive and it'll definitely start to feel stale if they don't switch it up next time. Examples of this include the "it's my poo" scene and the stand up to Hope. It felt really damn similar to the "it's my vagina" scene, almost annoyingly so, and the rebellion scene felt glaringly similar to the musical sequence from the end of S2, even if the song was catchy as hell. Another thing is that they seem to be dragging out some plotlines to the point where I just didn't care anymore. The main culprit being Otis and Maeve's storyline, it's just been dragged out for so long again and again and it looks like they're still gonna carry it on to the next season. I get they're trying to go for the "right person, wrong time" trope but it's honestly kind of irritating here. Add that with the fact that they put Otis and Ruby together and they had way more chemistry, it just makes Otis and Maeve feel boring and stale in comparison, so I really just stopped caring this season, about those two characters in particular, I think they definitely did them much worse, especially since Maeve barely felt like the same character anymore.

Speaking of Ruby, she's an example of a character that was improved. I'm glad they delved more into her personal life and tried to redeem her, much like Adam, she was a highlight this season and her actress does a great job playing her. The problem lies in the fact that they basically drop her after 3 episodes in favour of Otis and Maeve and after a great and likeable relationship, the replacement felt really meh. I would've preferred to have Otis finally get over Maeve and fix things with Ruby since what he did wasn't exactly irredeemable, but instead they turned him and Maeve into massive dicks and I actually ended up preferring Isaac this season, he was genuinely done better and other than what he did last season, he wasn't that much of an **** here and wasn't bitter about Maeve's final decision which I liked. I didn't really like Viv though, I think she was another character turned into an **** for no reason other than plot convenience and her sucking up to Hope for half the season felt forced and unnecessary. Speaking of Hope, she was unrealistically evil and I get they wanted a typical villain for the season but if they wanted that they shouldn't have tried to half ass her redemption at the end. I liked Mr. Groff though, he was another improvement. Other characters aren't really too notable, I didn't really love or hate them like the others, so I'll just say the rest of the characters and plotlines were simply 'good.'

Overall, it's another really great season, the show tackles a lot of issues better than any other show I've seen and it's also a great educational device for people with an engaging story and characters to boot, even if some are butchered this season. It's a little formulaic in places and definitely my least favourite but it's still pretty great. 8/10

The series is still funny and, if you’ll forgive the pun, spunky. But it veers dangerously into the territory of trying too hard, of doing too much. There’s a lot to enjoy in season three, but simply not enough room for its brilliance to breathe.

There’s very little to complain about when it comes to Sex Education’s third outing and those who loved the first and second seasons will be thrilled with the upcoming episodes, which set the same raunchy tone and tell similarly important stories about adolescent love.

None of it is soapy, but almost all of it is funny, or at least tinged with humor.
