When Selena was alive she even said in an interview, maybe in her last interview, that her father taught them since they were kids that it was a band and Selena was the singer of the band, but was a team effort and even all the members had the same pay check in their band, it was all equal, even thou we always saw Selena as the Star, it was a band, she even praised the attributes of the rest of the band, like his sister, or AB's producing and song writting amazing skills, and that really showed Selena was so humble and down to earth, she was not like most artistas nowadays, that behave like Divas, and that is what this serie reflects, she is not a secondary character, she is one of the team, of the family of the band, like it was supposed to be since the start in Selena and Los Dinos, and this really portraits how good person and humble she was, she was never señfish at all and all that really mattered to her was to suceed with her family by her side. I Bet the second Season will focus more on her because the marriage drama is coming and the rise of the star, but i really enjoyed the series so far, what I really hate is the time I will have to wait for second season. 1. Selena consistently skims the surface, landing occasionally on such shallow revelations as “I don’t always know who I am … until I am,” before skittering away again into shocking scenes like Now Her Hair Is Even Shorter. Selena is barely a character; her sister Suzette (Noemi Gonzalez) and her mother Marcella (Seidy López) are even less so.

Selena: The Series takes lazy writing to another level. ... It would be unfair to blame Serratos for the deficits of Selena: The Series; while her mere competence can’t save the show, even a Lopez-level performer would likely struggle to salvage such stiff dialogue, aimless plotting, flat characters and blah direction.

In the end, “Selena: The Series” pulls enough poignancy from Selena’s legend—we know she’ll never get to design those clothes or even turn 25—and the creators counteract the looming tragedy with silly, earnest, and heartfelt storytelling that gets you from one cumbia to the next.
