Expand

It goes everywhere and nowhere at the same time, all the while contradicting itself. The characters are stupid one moment, and the next they know things they shouldn't be able to know in that situation.

This looks and feels like it was a mishmash put together on edit to make even a slick of sense, even after they had the massive re-shoots in panic-mode. It just comes across as unfinished, and it looks very cheap.

I'm very frustrated and disappointed how this series was handled, and most of it comes down to writing. If it's so poorly written and thought-out that you have to have re-shoots, the production has failed tremendously. Everything from script to narrative to style is determined in pre-production, well thought-out so the plans can be solidified and costs calculated. Every issues in script and plans should be resolved before the actual shooting begins.
If the creators notice these faults only afterwards in post-production, then they're not professionals capable of planning out an audio-visual story. I'm so tired of this "fix it in post" -attitude that leads to massively over-inflated budgets for a garbage product that we're meant to enjoy.

A+ for Olivia Colman's performance. But sadly Samuel L. Jackson seemed to be there just to fulfill a contractual obligation.

And Emilia Clarke... why is she cast to action roles when she can't do action sequences? Though in this case it could be just the fault of an amateur DoP or shoddy editing where her face isn't in any shot requiring movement. It's immersion breaking, with no illusions and bad shot composition. And couldn't be more clear to anyone watching that it's a stunt double and not Emilia Clarke.

I'll give this a 4. It's not the worst thing ever and has some parts that work, but it's not worth investing several hours into.

The main bulk of it was slow and seemed like maybe we'd get some good character development from Talos or Maria Hill or Colonel Rhodes or some other characters. That didn't really happen. The characters who seemed to be pushed to the fore towards the end, didn't seem to have any character development of any substance, they were pretty bland and I don't really find them interesting or likeable. The big macguffin didn't seem to make much sense and was said to be operating off DNA but that's not possible since a lot of the attributes involved did not work off DNA, they were esoteric energy or some such. The finale of that was pretty lame and didn't feel like there were any real stakes, it just ended up as a 'smackdown' of sorts and the 'plot twist' was something I saw coming a mile off. In the end, nothing was really achieved and we didn't learn anything. The vibe of the show left me feeling miserable and I have very little faith for the future of the MCU. I almost feel like this show wasted my time. Expand

At this point I don't expect Marvel to use any of the source material, and while I would like to see that I wouldn't give a show negative marks for going it's own way. However, Secret Invasion (TV) doesn't have enough of an identity to make it interesting. The acting only has a few bright moments. The plot has holes you can drive a truck through and the directing leaves me wondering if they didn't start using AI already. Everything in the Marvel universe feels broken and the plot has been lost. Maybe they can turn the franchise around but every show I get one step closer to wanting it all to end. Expand

So, it's a series that just create a long circle on itself. CGI is acceptable, so does action scenes. But most of the time is it a slow affair, with unclear motivations. The acting is good however. I can't fault any of it. But they way the setup the story isn't good for any actors. I give it 40%. You will get frustrated even more by the ending then the beginning, promise. Expand

What kind of the f** is that finale? Secret Invasion is huge story line in comics and they thought they could tell it in a short serie? It's also a Avengers level treat but one single Nick Fury could solve that. Easy peasy, heh.
They need to change the end of story like Loki. I'm sure it's not just me but they need to let villains win at the end. I'm tired of superheros wins every damn time.

Before he was an awesome bad ass. He was always prepared, rarely outsmarted, had backup plans for nearly everything and information's were his super weapon. Here they use again the aged hero that is a shell of his former self trope. The former MCU Nick Fury and his comics counterpart I would never want as enemy like I would not oppose Thrawn, Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes or Hercules Poirot to name a few. This one here in the show is neither intimidating or capable enough to reach that level (Wont spoil what they did to him in the show). Now to the “Secret Invasion” comics. These were awesome. The super heroes were unaware of it until Electra (from Daredevil) died and turned into a Skrull. Neither the telepathic heroes, nor the spider sense or even Wolverines enhanced senses could tell something was off. You did not know who was a Skrull posing as hero and what their agenda was. They used this for a fantastically good journey. Here it is neither that serious or intense that it created the dread and suspicion of the source material. To be fair in some scene they archive it but use it sparingly just as gimmick. I like the actors and would praise their performance. Samual Jackson, a strong and awesome Ben Mendelson, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Emilia Clarke are just too good. However there is a bit overacting like the museum scene and the story is a bit incoherent. If there were reshoots and heavy editing it would explain a bit. Especially Emilia Clarke’s characters motivations and actions are puzzling to understand. The special effects are fine for me. I stopped watching after episode 3 as it was not interesting enough (Had to force me to watch it even). Overall I think it is not awful except what they did to Nick Fury to be rated trash. However it is not good enough either for a higher rating. A 5/10 seems fair. Expand

While it boasts an impressive cast and an intriguing premise, the execution falls flat, leaving viewers feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.

One of the biggest drawbacks of Secret Invasion is the lackluster writing. The storyline starts with a bang, promising a thrilling infiltration of shape-shifting aliens on Earth. However, as the episodes progress, the plot becomes convoluted and predictable. The writers rely too heavily on tired clichés, leaving little room for surprises or originality. As a result, the once-promising concept quickly loses its edge, failing to engage viewers in meaningful ways.

Another major letdown is the character development. Despite a talented ensemble cast, the characters feel one-dimensional and lacking in depth. It becomes challenging to connect or empathize with any of them, as they seem to serve merely as vessels to move the plot forward. Moreover, character arcs are rushed and poorly fleshed out, leaving viewers craving more substantial growth and emotional investment.

The pacing of Secret Invasion is another area where the show stumbles. Instead of building suspense and tension gradually, the episodes tend to drag on, making it difficult to maintain interest. Important moments that should be impactful and intense often fall short due to pacing issues, resulting in a disengaged audience.

Visually, Secret Invasion adopts a dark and gritty aesthetic, which could have worked if it were not for the inconsistent cinematography. The action sequences lack creativity and fail to truly showcase the superhuman abilities of the characters. Moreover, the CGI, which should have been a highlight, feels subpar at times, detracting from the overall viewing experience.

Despite these flaws, Secret Invasion does have its saving graces. The performances from the renowned cast, including some standout moments from a few actors, offer brief glimpses of what the show could have been. Additionally, the concept itself holds immense potential, leaving room for future improvements.

In the end, Secret Invasion fails to live up to its hype and the expectations set by Marvel fans. It falls victim to weak writing, shallow character development, pacing issues, and lackluster visuals. While it may still appeal to die-hard Marvel enthusiasts, the general audience may find themselves craving more substance and originality.

The initial scene's camera work inspired nausea and the action sequence at the end started out promising but quickly became confusing and unwatchable. The interactions between Talos and Nick Fury were oddly intimate. There are gaps in the narrative that leave the viewer feeling confused and need to be filled in sooner rather than later. The ending is either an unfortunate choice or a predictable fake out. I'm hoping future episodes will redeem it, but so far, not good. Expand

Watching top tier actors trying to wring pathos out of some of the worst writing and storytelling of the 21st century is getting too hard to stomach any longer. I am a big fan of the MCU who WANTS to defend it. But how can you defend THIS? The entire POINT of "alien bodysnatcher" fiction is that the aliens "can be anyone." As in the comics, the aliens should reveal themselves to be people you ALREADY KNOW. Introducing a bunch of new characters with backstories we don't care about who happen to be able to shapeshift is the LEAST interesting version of a shapeshifter storyline. THe first episode explicitly states in narration the paranoia that would come with a "secret invasion" and then fails to actualy DO any of it. It's astonishing how bad it is. Especially since it already had comics that show how to do it right. Expand

The color scheme is well considered, sometimes alluding to a possible Skrull among the faces you see. Photography is excellent and music is well applied.

The production does, however, suffer from a number of smaller issues: The pace is not cinematic, and lags when it shouldn't, detracting from a more pressing presentation. The lesser actors deliver their lines poorly, which caused me to have to turn on subtitles to understand what was being said. Finally, the most pressing critique from my generation will be that "Secret Invasion" has a Woke agenda to undermine men in power by robbing Nick Fury of his agency and strength. Although Fury IS presented as uncertain and not at his finest in this first episode, I currently do not believe there is any foul play yet. Sadly, the politics of modern day Hollywood are not only divisive but also deceptive, leading many of us to constantly look over our shoulders, uncertain of where the Marxists will lecture us next.

Alluring, Secret Invasion has the potential to use its premise to misdirect and surprise its audience. Time will tell if Creator Kyle Bradstreet and Director Ali Selim do the Marvel Brand proper justice. I am hopeful and betting they will.
