Rick and Morty is easily the best animated show on television right now.

The jokes are sometimes dumb, sometimes smart, and sometimes raunchy, but they're always funny. Whatever your expectations on where an episode will go are, they'll always be wrong. Nothing plays out quite like what you'd think, and every episode keeps you guessing.

The characters are the strongest part of the show, the slow awkward grandson Morty is lovable, grandpa Rick is an alcoholic uncaring genius (who is still lovable), and the rest of the family all interact wonderfully.

All the plots that the show create come together in the end somehow, and all matter. There are no meaningless threads.

Although the show normally has a lighthearted feel, some episodes do get darker and deeper than you'd think. I'll avoid spoilers, but especially the Episode "Rick Potion #9" (also my favorite episode so far). This is not at all a bad thing though, quite the opposite.

If you're tired of shows that re-use the same jokes or feel the same every episode, then try out Rick and Morty. You won't... *buuurp* r-regret it Morty! You... you won't! Okay, Morty?

Very few flaws, one of my favorite shows ever. Hilariously funny, with 3 dimensional characters and a surprisingly deep worldview. Roiland's voice work as Rick needs some work, the constant belching is off-putting in a way that I'm not sure was intended.

On a whim, I gave R&M another shot, and I'm blown away. The writing for this show is too good, almost to the fault of the show's reputation of storylines. The first 2 episodes are somewhat general audience, and then it finds it's niche around episode 3. I was completely owned by this show at Robodog.. and then I was a superfan at MeSeeks. I can honestly say that this is my favorite show, of all times. I love the characters, the writing, the voice acting, and the art. I was scared that because it was an Adult Swim show that it wouldn't get appropriate love, and most importantly I was concerned that the creators would jump ship should something more lucrative would come (assuming Adult Swim with it's small audience couldn't provide wealth). I'm thrilled that season 2 is a go... although the Wikipedia states there is not much continuity I feel that there is just enough. I don't want to give anything away, I'll just say the writing is just perfect, and has the improv comedy is there as well which lends itself a sense of life. Expand

The person giving this a 0 rating complained about the stuttering. I think it works as it gives the sense of silly realism to the characters. It could do with a little less of Rick burping(we get it, he's drunk all the time)but that is a minor complaint. Back off the burping to maybe once or twice an episode and it's perfect 11.

The first episode of the show hit all the right points for me, it was funny, well written, was full of references, and had just the right amount of absurdity to it. There are a lot of big sci-fi concepts here, and I hope they work out. The very first episode has a 'carry something up your butt to avoid customs' bit. You know, really high brow subtle humor there. Fans like to say that the show has deep meaning and philosophical themes depicting the human condition, however in reality the show is not much different from Family Guy, considering that Rick is a giant ass with moments of a softer side but overall a self centered and unsympathetic jerk while Morty is just an average teenage boy with wild fantasies and a wavering sidekick who gets hurt often on their wacky misadventures. To be really honest, the show sometimes had it's funny quirks and occasional made me laugh at the right times. But ultimately it's comedy is just dick jokes, toilet humor, utter randomness, and large amounts of ultraviolence and bloody gore which get old very very quickly. People say the writing is clever and original, that might be true but the gas runs out faster than you think and its intelligent writing is just smelly garbage and feces in the form of a elegant flower. Rick and Morty is a show for tiny fanboys and critics with the minds of sponges who just follow the crowd with no real individual opinion. I liked it once, but now I pity it since it will fall into the bottomless trench of crude humor and awfulness. I don't generally like to dish out perfect 10s but I stuggle to find anything in Rick and Morty to complain about. They never make a joke outstay it's welcome so it's bot really an issue if you don't click with a certain one. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. RIck and Morty is a sci-fi show about a grandfather and grandson who go on adventures through time and space. Frequently these adventures turn sour when the grandfather throws some sort of wrench in the original plans, from pretending to be a deity, taking down the galactic government for a dipping sauce, as well as entering each others dreams. This show shows no limits to what it will parody or how far they can flip the script on something that you might have already seen. Specializing in throwing convention out the window and seeing how are they can push the boundaries on what will be allowed on TV. I would consider it mixture of South Park, Back to the Future, and Doctor Who. Expand

Relies heavily upon shock and juvenile humor. Can be everywhere from mildly uncomfortable to overtly offensive, with no redeeming qualities to make up for it. Good for simple slapstick but not much else.

Rick and Morty's first season absolutely nails it. It is the funniest animated show on TV right now. If you really liked Futurama like myself, you will like R&M. It's very rare a show, or any piece of entertainment, that can make you laugh out loud, think existentially about the universe and your own place in it, provide meta-commentary, and get you home in time for some every day truth. Last show I saw that had all of these elements was Harmon's previous much-embattled comedy Community.

Rick & Morty is truly special because it contains the most special parts of it's creators' shows. The meta, razor sharp and laugh out loud funny writing of Community with the unhinged quality of Adventure Time (and animation in general). There's a lot going here to be excited about. Most of the best shows in TV have taken a lot of time to hit this high a bar. Even the aforementioned Community was on into it's 20th episode or so before it really let loose the cannon with "Modern Warfare." Arrested Development is probably the only other show that comes to mind that was hitting gold in it's first few episodes.

Here's hoping Rick & Morty, not having the pressures of basic cable's antiquated ratings system, can live long and prosper. I fear only their fans' adulation poses a threat to its continued greatness (messing with the creators' and writers' heads).

On a related note, finding out that this was an "adult" show had me worried that it would be too silly and immature (on par with Family Guy?) but I was surprised by how "adult" some of the issues covered in the show really were, reflecting very real problems faced in life.

As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. Rick is a super scientist that have giant plans and can do crazy things very easily, in some of his adventures he needs the help of his grandson to achieve some of his goals, together they will go into some unbelievable adventures. Created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon.
This show is so different from the normal cartoons at this style, this does have a level of discussion considerable bigger than the others, there is so much philosophical aspects in here to think about. There are so many references and philosophy that they can agglomerate into a small episode story, it is so fantastic, they do talk about so many different things, in crazy places, referencing to movies and shows culture overall and still develope interesting and very hilarious plots for two different fronts in every single episode, while one group is in a lunatic adventure, another one is in a way more, normally, mundane story, it is so dope and funny.
The character of Rick is one thing that deserves all the lights, dubbed by Justin Roiland, so many things on this crazy guy. He first of all, the way that he is a genius and can simply do so unbelievable things with just a feel seconds, or decide to go to a incredible journey just to get a little thing, like get Morty some better grades in math, he is just unstoppable. How Ricky's honor doesn't matter for him is also a very fun thing that really helps in making the show better, he doesn't care if he is being ethical or if his attitudes are honorable, he just do whatever he wants or whatever he needs to, anything else matter, not even the universe, sometimes breaks everything just for fun, and then comeback, or not, like if nothing happened, this is one of the greatest characters of modern age of audio-visual stuff. I love how he is always drinking and always belching in every phrase, the dubbing work in here is phenomenal.
The Morty character is also perfect for this show, his relation with Rick, because he is a regular shy boy like anyone else, it is so great the contrast that he has with Rick, how he question his decisions and the things that he do, Morty tries to be a guy with much more honor and ethic than Rick, but all the time Rick is puttin Morty in those situations where he gotta do some, not very ethica stuff, but it is so nice how he deals with all of that. Morty is also dubbed by Justin Roiland, it is so great how he can transform his voice, there is one or another moment where, maybe, it doesn't work that much as does in Rick, but overall it is pretty nice to.
The situations where they got themselves into in here, are always so cretive, and there are so many possibilities in this show, there are literally infinite, because there are so many places that they could go, there are infinite multiverses with infinite Ricks for example, they could create a park inside of a man's body, they went into dreams like in inception and found some kind of Freddy Krueger in there, and exploire the thing inside the thing, they have so many layers to explore, so many missions and stuff, and always making you question stuff, like virtual realities, or virtual realities inside of another virtual realitie, that is so crazy and beautiful. At the same time that there parents are just having regular lifes or doint ordinary things.
