It takes place on an Indian reservation in Oklahoma and follows 4 Indigenous teens thru their daily lives. Some episodes are more comical, especially with the addition of some unique characters (the rapping twins played by Lil Mike and Funnybone are especially entertaining). Other episodes delve into one person with depth and tender insights. The creators are Native American filmmaker Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, director of Jojo Rabbit, What We Do in the Shadows and other idiosyncratic films. His quirky approach to storytelling and characterization infuses this show with flights of fantasy and wacky personalities. Unique, interesting and fun. Expand

I love the ancestor warrior, he is hilarious and brings that mysticism that intrigues and expands the boundaries of this world - kinda like Twin Peaks, Fargo or Atlanta. Plots are great, equal parts comedy and drama while dealing with various timely issues like mental health, 420, socioeconomic inequality and domestic difficulties. Acting is top notch across the board - not over the top, real chill like casual interactions you'd have with your friends. The music is _the bomb_, can't tell you how many songs I've added to my streaming favorites after being reintroduced to them.

If you like Atlanta (and I do), you'll love this show! I wouldn't throw around 10 ratings wildly, but this is already in as one of my top 10 favorite series of all time.

It has laughs, love, lessons and a great scope of insight not ever before seen where Native life is concerned. It shows the reality of resiliency found in the people and the way they retain culture and custom in tedious times, and yet wish to achieve dreams of something different while still realizing how very important their core roots are. Each character has a depth that you see unfold in each episode to draft a complete unity between them while showing their individual struggles with similar experiences. It's a great series, and I found myself laughing, crying, and hoping for each of them in so many ways. Expand

Reservation Dogs gets it's nods to Tarantino's classic out of the way early with a black suited tribute to a fallen brother and the iconic poster in the main character's bedroom. The plot of characters tryingReservation Dogs gets it's nods to Tarantino's classic out of the way early with a black suited tribute to a fallen brother and the iconic poster in the main character's bedroom. Then it's on to it's own thing. The plot of characters trying to amass enough money to escape their dire surroundings is not new, but placing the series in rural Oklahoma in a reservation, or "rez", gives it a voice rarely seen. The main teenage leads are excellent, playing with a natural banter that seems captured, not scripted. It has a sly sense of humor that puts a smile on your face from first frame to last. Expand

This show is dope. Great music and atmosphere. Love everyone in it. I've seen the first two episodes and I can't wait to see where it goes. Totally came out of nowhere. Kinda reminds me of Misfits in its attitude, with a dash of Freaks and Geeks.

Sure, the What We Do In the Shadows has some good laughs and I'd even give it a great 8. But not only do we get laughs with this well plotted series, we get a glimpse into a world unadulterated and far from watered down-for white audiences. It's mostly laughs, but on occasion this series can give you a gut-punch of brutal truth, with fantastic cameos, and young actors that just make acting look so dang easy. This is a perfect series. A heartwarming modern take on friendship, family, love, and loss. The characters are drawn well with depth, flaws, and room to grow. The cinematography and music are dope. One of the best shows to come out in a while.

Funny, heartfelt and utterly engrossing antics on an Oklahoma reservation in the modern day, tinged with wannabee gangsters and pop media enthusiasts, but ultimately grounded in the cultural and spiritual roots that we all wish we had.
