Don't let the subtitles scare you off. NetFlix's "Quicksand' is definitely worth a watch. The actors are excellent (especially Hannah Ardehl in the lead role). The cinematography is beautiful. The story is a compelling crime procedural told in a series of flashbacks. And with just six episodes total, it's a super fast watch.

I've been watching Swedish language films for a few years. I like them. Some, people don't like dealing with subtitles - so, consider that.

I found the Hanna Ardéhn as Maja Norberg acting to be quite good. Conversely, I was not taken by the Felix Sandman as Sebastian acting - but, I can't explain that. All of the acting in this film was professional quality or better. Specifically

I found the Hanna Ardéhn as Maja Norberg acting to be quite good. Conversely, I was not taken by the Felix Sandman as Sebastian acting - but, I can't explain that. All of the acting in this film was professional quality or better. Specifically I judge the casting quite good - but, again I have a problem with Felix Sandman as Sebastian.

Maybe Felix Sandman as Sebastian was just projecting the broken-down, damaged jerk he was supposed to be and that put me off... but, I don't think so. I think if the project had more money and more time Felix Sandman would have developed a better performance.

The technicals were professional quality and better. There were just a few scenes that should have been retaken and I assume that the producers/director had a budget to deal with. These situations unfortunately involved some poor acting and I just took them as an exercise such as studying deleted scenes and let them go - I'm sure some will find it distracting.

In regard to the script (based on the novel) I found the issue of the female psyche, as always for me, to be complex and unexplainable. It is what it is. Teenage girls go through similar (but much less dramatic) experiences all the time. I take it as an aspect of an adolescent becoming more mature. It is very difficult and unfortunate that Majas become involved with Sebastians. I found the plot to be realistic and relatable - but, perhaps too familiar.

If I were a high-school life-skills instructor, I would use this film as a case study for student discussions.

Worth it! Good acting and story. To bad I can only understand a few words in this language but hey that is why we have subs!
