Pure woke garbage from Netflix as usual. Top feminism, race swapping, bad acting, showing men as despicable creatures, an so goes on. What can we expect from a production from Jada P. Smith? May the wrath of Egyptian Old Gods take care of this crap.

Overall there is nothing true about a life of Cleopatra I didn’t already new besides some **** of her being a warrior, which is another example of this show deserving nothing more than a spit.

Since the film is classified as a documentary and not a drama, those making the film have to be accurate and it should be based on historical and scientific facts, to ensure that history and civilizations are not falsified. We have known for thousands of years that Cleopatra is of Greek origin and was born in Egypt. This is a fact. Our main objection is the falsification of these facts. It is not about being Black or White or even Yellow. Let's say they wanted to portray Cleopatra as a man, we would also object to that. Expand

Right now you can Google “Black African Queens” and get an amazing number of results. Why, then, to culturally appropriate a Egyptian ruler of Greek/Macedonian descent? Apparently, no one at Netflix knows what a search engine is.

It gets worse. Somehow, this “documentary” has nothing to do with the real Cleopatra - one of the most well known figures in history. You can’t watch it and say “OK, the skin color is wrong but her life was cool”, because almost nothing shown is about the real Cleopatra. “The Pyramids were built by aliens” is more credible than this farce because… well, who knows?… But here we know, and from multiple sources from her age. The result is an astounding mess. And I have still to mention the irritating, patronising tone both in the “documentary” and in the discourse surrounding it. When you offend whole nations you should pause and think, not go on a stage with a megaphone “explaining” to the plebes. Graham Hancock, at least, was fun to watch. You know? Watch Graham instead: maybe it is fiction too, but at least that’s fun fiction.

The heart breaks with resentment for such a diverse, colorful and interesting continent as Africa, whose cultural heritage, most likely, will never spread beyond its borders because of such ... ambassadors as Mrs. Smith. Egypt was also badly **** up: in the "documentary" series about THEIR country, THEIR queen and THEIR history, they simply took it and distorted it.

Most people are as lazy as possible, they will not look for additional information. Therefore, of course, you need to keep track of such projects and not give them a big distribution.

So sick of the fact that when the studio crap, it ALWAYS starts accusing others of racism.

It's just disgusting. They are **** racists. And instead of denying this fact, denying that they specifically crap, they should start learning to accept constructive criticism.

The agenda is killing cinema. Let them make more such projects, the faster the studios will be bent and, perhaps, they will be replaced by more worthy ones.

History before:
evidence in the form of ancient letters, excavations, radioisotope analysis
History now:
-Cleopatra is black because my grandmother told me so and therefore we will stir up a whole documentary based on this.

This is insulting for everyone. I'm sure people of color had a beautiful history that we will enjoy and want to learn about. Please tell us about that, don't change the color of historical characters and DON'T call that a "documentary"!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disregarding the fact that this “documentary” is a disgrace to actual history; it is still objectively terrible. You can tell how badly they wanted to emanate HBOs “Rome” by further incorporating dramatic aspects to the story. They fall hilariously short. You’d think it would be easier to dramatize the events that took place surrounding Cleopatra. Instead we’re presented with Grey’s anatomy level writing and acting. If you want to witness a real writers strike and have literal time to burn I couldn’t recommend this series enough. However If you’d like to watch a well produced historical TV show with great set design, real characters, and half decent writing, Rome is what you want to watch. Not this filth. Expand

Even if they want to say anyone can play the role of any historical figure, it still only built indirection of skin color and grandma talks, which drops the meaning of the Documentary.
Documentaries always have been built on research studies and investigations; I can not find any of that in this show. The conclusion, after watching, I find no respect for Egyptian history and no respect for other African nations because they also have historical figures. I believe it's good for every country to represent the history of its civilization based on science because science helps us as humans to be fair, not judgy not biased

Having a masters degree in history, with a focus on ancient civilizations, I often find myself watching shows like this to see how the writers/producers present history accurately. Or, as in this case, how they fail to do so. This show is slow, unenthusiastic and extremely historically inaccurate. It comes across as revisionist history, full of "it could have been" and "well, maybe if we imagine it like this" stuff that does nothing more than damage history and confuse a current generation that is already struggling with history. Especially given that one of the "experts" thinks this is accurate because their senile grandmother said something to her when she was a child (and she probably doesn't accurately remember what was said either, but decided to think this was it). This show wants to destroy recorded history, so they can rewrite it for a "modern" (historically ignorant) society. When I found out the country of Egypt is suing the creator and Netflix due to its historical inaccuracies and revisionist "documentary" settings, I was surprised, but pleasantly so. I wish more countries would stand up for actual history, and stop letting random people try and rewrite/destroy their historical significance just so they can show it off to their elitist friends and feel good about themselves.
