It’s charming and marshmallow-sweet, perfect for the midwinter doldrums. The two besties will do all the thinking so you don’t have to.

They [Paris and Nicole] ask him [composer Thomas Adès] how long it takes to write an opera. One to five years, he says. They have less than a month. It’s an enlightening moment, one of many it turns out. .... And the point was never to create a masterpiece. Like “The Simple Life,” this series is about the journey, one in which they, and we in turn, hopefully learned something about this “iconic” thing called opera.

The Encore reminds us all that The Simple Life was more than what it appeared to be on the surface. In the age of anti-intellectualism, it’s important to remember that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie have always been in on the joke.
