Yet another show that uses a convoluted and absurd premise as a vehicle to have a bunch of model looking actors in their early twenties prance around like teenagers. Dime a doze. Pulpy. Best enjoyed when not taken too seriously.

Like the The Hunger Games and Maze Runner movies, this series is based on a YA book. A group of high school seniors participate in increasingly dangerous feats for an opportunity to win big money and a chance to leave their small town. AsLike the The Hunger Games and Maze Runner movies, this series is based on a YA book. A group of high school seniors participate in increasingly dangerous feats for an opportunity to win big money and a chance to leave their small town. As expected in the genre, there’s plenty of teen angst, romantic complications and parental hassles. The action moments are mildly involving, but lack much genuine tension (at least in the first 3 episodes). This won’t break any records for exciting new show, but will probably work for fans of the novel.… Expand

Logic problems and plot holes make this YA concotion an incoherent mess. (mild spoilers for the first episode and one occurance in season 1)

Our present day Heroine Heather Nill (yeah she's a nobody) is presented to us on screen as a plain, inconspicuous, everygirl who hails from the town of Smithville, TX which is harshly recast as "Carp" an anagram of "Crap" in the show. Ostensibly she's an aspiring accountant, whose money she's saved (almost $6G's) for her certificate program she's put in a shoebox in her room rather than the checking account we later learn she has. We're told she's "smart" ,"a creative", and "a girl made of stories" who somehow is not aware of the existance of creative writing scholarships. She has a neglectful, theiving, subtance abusing, former teen-mother named Sheri whose poor taste in men predictably endangers Heather's much younger sister. Sheri steals Heather's accounting certificate stash which she says was spent on a transmission for a 2001 Geo Metro (you could just by another one between $100 and $900). This combined with her being sacked from her part time gig at the local ISP/computer/cellphone store is the inciting incident that presses her into a last minute decision to play the game alluded to in the title for what is advertised as a life changing sum of $50Gs. Players somehow manage to mostly stay ahead of the cops for many of the challenges even though there are large crowds of spectators at many of them. The much alluded to judges remain a mystery for much of the series. This show had some interesting things to say about class consciousness that are all too often ignored in the media but they were drowned out by too many distractions and plot holes for me to be fully engaged. Skip it as it is way less fun than it promises to be.… Expand

Definitely a 10/10 rating- I absolutely loved watching this series!! I binged it in full when it was first released, and it certainly kept me on the edge of my seat. The cinematography was great, the challenges were intriguing, and all of theDefinitely a 10/10 rating- I absolutely loved watching this series!! I binged it in full when it was first released, and it certainly kept me on the edge of my seat. The cinematography was great, the challenges were intriguing, and all of the actors did an amazing job in portraying the story. Each of the main characters have a very clear motive as to why they chose to join the game of Panic. Even the supporting characters are enjoyable to watch, since they all have very diverse personalities. I've seen a few negative reviews mention how players could just drive away from the town without the money if they really wanted to get away. If anything, I feel as if these reviewers watched a completely different show. While this "just drive away" idea could be true in theory, watching the season clears up a lot of this misconception and truly shows just how stuck you are when living in the town of Carp.

To sum it up, this was a fantastic show and if you're debating on watching it- go for it! Try out the first three or four episodes and see how you like it. This story becomes riddled with more and more interesting twists and reveals as time goes on, allowing for a truly fun and jaw-dropping watch. Really hoping for a second season!… Expand
