Season 1 Review:
Through DaCosta's Angela it sparks a dialogue about the language and lineage of Black hair that's intricate, detailed and celebratory. ... Another is subtler but important, which is that it depicts the exclusive stratum of Black America that runs on inherited generational fortune and power. ... You should watch because it's a reliable weekly dose of sparkle, glam and extra-ness, along with plenty of hair inspiration, in a dreary world.

Season 1 Review:
Based on what [series creator Karin Gist] showed in the first two episodes, I doubt this series will devolve into the kind of soapy debauch seen on other Black-headlined dramas. She seems more interested in building a world, one where Black people run successful companies, hobnob in elite clubs of their own making and act as though the rest of us don't even exist.

Season 1 Review:
It’s frustrating to watch this one not only throw everything at the wall to see what sticks, but fail to give its characters enough space to be people outside of the twists defining their lives from second to salacious second. “Our Kind of People” has plenty of intrigue inherent in its premise and location without having to make its ever-changing plots the stars of the show.
