Mar 10, 2022This is a tough 4. I love everyone in it and the concept is great. The execution, however, is less than stellar. I think this is one of those shows where the premise is a hit, but after 2 episodes (I lost interest in the third), I'm bored. Worst thing you can get out of a comedy with great casting and direction. The writing just isn't there.

Mar 3, 2022So unfunny and bland, i feel bad for the actors who had to carry such a lazy and dumb writing.

Mar 27, 2022This show was ok at first but the way it turns... amazing. The just prefect execution in character and relationship building. When you realize what this show is around episode 5 it hits you like a ton of bricks as a huge aha moment. When everything makes sense and you realize they are reaching for something great. Can't wait for season 2.

Apr 25, 2022While it takes a few episodes for this show to start to bear it's claws (it coincides with Waititi's Blackbeard being introduced), there is enough there for this show to build upon going forward.

Jul 19, 2022Enjoyable show and great to see Taika and Rhys working together again. If you ever wondered what Black Sails would be like as a light hearted goofy comedy you'll probably really like this show.

Our Flag Means Death might be too laid-back to actually be funny, but it drifts towards somewhere good.

We recommend you stay for the voyage, because once the easy gags about a progressive pirate captain several fathoms out of his depth have all been used up, Our Flag Means Death charts a slightly different course. ... The relationship between Stede, the gentle man who wants to be a tough guy, and Blackbeard, the tough guy who wants to be a gentler man, is developed with surprising tenderness. There’s even an element of Mad Men’s fixation on how everyone wants something in their life.

It is the chemistry between the two leads, who are old friends from New Zealand, that keeps this lark afloat.
