It's no wonder the metascore is so low for this show considering maybe 40% of the American viewing public is going to hate it on principle. So don't let the numbers fool you. I'm a Canadian watching this administration from the outsideIt's no wonder the metascore is so low for this show considering maybe 40% of the American viewing public is going to hate it on principle. So don't let the numbers fool you. I'm a Canadian watching this administration from the outside through the lens of common sense; there's plenty of absurdity watching your actual president in action, and this show nails it down more often than not.

Basically, most of the jokes land simply by highlight the unusually short distance between the source material and the cartoonishly surreal. It's ham-fisted at times, and the caricatures, like Colbert's monologues, are not loving at all. But it also doesn't feel too overboard, if only because the real president is kind of overboard by default.

Every goofy thing the cartoon president (and all the other familiar faces) says and does just sounds like the real thing only turned up to 11. It's just Donald J Trump meets Homer J Simpson. And it works, generally by making you shake your head and chortle at the fact that real life isn't too far off. Lines like "I've lost two wives, so if you think about it, I've been twice as devastated as you." You almost feel like the real guy just hasn't said them *yet.*

If you're a Trump devotee, the only good news here is that a) the Democrats aren't exactly spared, albeit barely ever showing up, and b) cartoon T never crosses over into abject evil (the show actually steers clear of overly negative imagery.) But there's no way those two things will get you to sit through this show for more than 2 minutes. You'll write it off as some sort of hateful mindlessness, but unfortunately that's because you've desensitized yourself to the objective absurdity of this presidency.

This show is obviously written by people with no interest in making him look good, but the thing is a chunk of this show could easily have come from the mind of unbiased observers with an eye for the completely ludicrous. Which we have no shortage of these days, sorry to say.

And cartoon Hannity is uproarious.

Fun to watch, but nothing outstanding.
Show doesn't really take itself seriously but does a great job at keeping you entertained. Don't expect it to be something like southpark...it's more similar to American Dad(but American Dad is better :D).
