Season 1 Review:
Funny, yes, but in a revelatory way. It is not unusual for a working mother to view every relationship in her life as simply a matter of fulfilling the next indicated task, but I don't think it has ever been so wonderfully, and painfully, captured on television before.

Season 1 Review:
The casting, like the writing and direction, is impeccable, and includes Eve Best as Jackie's doctor friend Eleanor; Peter Facinelli as cute but semi-competent ER physician Fitch "Coop" Cooper; Merritt Wever as a bleeding-heart novice; and Haaz Sleiman as a gay Muslim orderly.

Season 2 Review:
By having everyone around Jackie seem daft, quirky or incompetent--an attempt at humor, one would guess--the series never felt connected. Those elements improved by the ended of Season 1 and have, for the most part, been ironed out in the early episodes of Season 2 (though the tone will need to be monitored).

Season 1 Review:
Tonight's pilot suffers from a few up-the-ante, "look-at-me!" moments, like when Coop grabs Jackie's breast and claims it's a nervous tic. Future episodes are more grounded and less desperate to shock for the sake of grabbing viewer (and network) attention, but they're no less enthralling with both drama and humor.

Season 6 Review:
Watching Jackie go back on the drugs, lying to her support group as well as her current better-than-she-deserves cop boyfriend Frank (Adam Ferrara), you can't help but get a dispiriting feeling of been-there, snorted-that. Bright spots include Emmy winner Merritt Wever as the irrepressible nurse Zoey.... and the arrival of the terrific Julie White.

Season 1 Review:
While the title character is consistently rough and the language blue, in subsequent episodes (Showtime sent six out for review) the series increasingly feels like all style and limited substance--a star showcase that's less "triumphant return" than "Nice to have you back, but ..."

Season 2 Review:
The few plot lines that don't revolve around her sex appeal--such as her older daughter becoming everything-aphobic, Eddie becoming crazy, and Dr. O'Hara (Eve Best) moving at warp speed on her self-destruction path--are all so interesting, it makes you long for more.

Season 6 Review:
At one time, it was possible to enjoy Nurse Jackie even for viewers who were over Jackie's drama because the supporting cast was so much fun. There's something less entertaining about them these days, too. Their plots sometimes feel like a stretch, as if the writers are grasping for stories for them.
