Whilst stylish and with a fantastic performance by the lead, for me personally it was unrealistic and too sex obsessed (I’m no prude but the show seemed too erotic and not enough character development)

It seems to be appealing to a young demographic and I’m sure teenagers would enjoy it more.

Truly brilliant television. 10 episodes about the awkwardness of being young. The chemistry between the two stars is unbelievable.

I do believe the show goes overboard occasionally in this portrayal, as some of the nudity could've been cut down in some scenes, but I understand it's meant to convey a deeper meaning to romance and intimacy. The plot has its ups and downs, but the show's highs (namely when it focuses on the lead lovers) are amazing. I'd recommend this show for anyone looking to find deeper meaning in love and watch a moving (albeit occasionally awkward) show. Expand

This is the most involving show I have seen in years. Like many reviewers have noted, watching it you are immersed in the world of these 2 people and rooting for them like they are people you know. So well done. So affecting. I would give it a 12 if possible.

Did not think it'd be my cup of tea based on trailer. Thought oh great another melodramatic romance, typical boy and girl from different sides of the train tracks -- NO. The characters are not cookie cutter at all. The relationship journey is so real and nuanced and engaging. The directing/acting/music -- it is top top notch. Ended up binging it in one day. Normal people is a series that makes you want to see all episodes in just one day, extremely engaging and delicate. Generally speaking, the characters, as outlined on the page, are distinctly plain and painted with broad strokes, which serves to highlight Edgar-Jones and Mescal’s acting ability but demonstrates that their talents are in service of a substandard product.

It is a beautiful piece of work, capturing the fervid intensity of a first teenage sexual relationship with charm and poignancy. This is almost entirely due to the quality of the two lead actors, although the lean dialogue helps too.

Normal People isn’t just some erotic but sweet story of turbulent young love. It’s a portrait of intimacy itself—and I do mean both kinds, sexual and emotional. There’s an earnestness to it that you won’t find in other TV shows aimed at young adults.
