Dec 27, 2018Explanation: The series is based on a 4 hour audio book/book.
That's why you can't expect much. I'm halfway through half of this and it's just mediocre.
That you really make a series out of it amazes me.
Therefore you can really save this series -
Feb 1, 2019How did they fit so many stupid people on that ship? Budget looks good. Actors are doing an ok job, but this crap is so unbelievable it's impossible to watch.
-
Dec 15, 2018A series is fundamentally flawed when you know more about the plot from the two sentence plot summary on Imdb for the 1987 film (or the blurb on the back cover of the book) than in the first 3 episodes.
Glacial.
Edit: Having seen the whole season, I want my time back. -

Dec 5, 2018The original story might have been great with overarching themes and filled with internal struggles, but this adaptation fails on every level to deliver any semblance of competent storytelling. The direction, choices in editing and cinematography, and stiff 'acting' from the entire cast renders this a dumpster fire.

Dec 10, 2018Totally dig this show. For the average viewer it may take a minute to dig in but it's been worth it so far! Lot's of subtle Alien/Shining/2001 vibes which are great as well. Great writing...great cast....well done!

Dec 10, 2018Well written with a great cast. Genuinely scary and suspenseful. Nice insight from GRRM cast and crew on the inside interviews. When is Season 2 ?

Jan 2, 2019Not a horrible series but i wanted more. Despite a high production value and some scary moments, "NightFlyers" never reached it's potential. The performances from all the actors were all solid. There's just not enough new here to keep me coming back. The threat to the passenger is much less menacing than anticipated. It all seems a bit "meh" in the end.

Dec 13, 2018An incredibly boring show. Pacing is all over the place. It doesn't seem to be able to decide what genre is it. Not worth the time.

Dec 10, 2018I'm digging it! Love the homages to classic horror films in the "container" of a space show. And it only gets better the deeper you get into the series. It's fun and scary!

Dec 10, 2018Been watching the show from the start, great science fiction and really enjoy the suspense and horror. Well thought out, adult science fiction. Don't understand all the negative reviews.
-
Dec 3, 2018I'm actually enjoying it a lot. Think it will take a while to settle into it, but looking forward to next episode.

Dec 27, 2018If you take into account the time when the novel was released, the story is much better than many others of the genre, I watched it come if I was at that time and I enjoyed it too much. Also, who is a fan of game of thrones will see some similarities between the two series that are not mere coincidences. highly recommended. despite some minor slips.

Feb 1, 2019The Nightflyers is a preatty good scifi series, set aboard starship/spaceship (as in the title).
The series is based on a book (same title) writted by George R. R. Martin.
9/10, waiting for another season :D. -
Mar 27, 2019Interesting story but the plot is not cohesive. It jumps all over the place. The main cast lacks chemistry in many areas with stilted acting. This could have been a much better series with tighter writing. For me, it misses the mark and instead of being exciting it was boring.

Feb 3, 2019The story makes little sense, it’s cheesy at times, it does borrow all the scifi tropes... But it is extremely entertaining and engaging. It borrows heavily from Event Horizon, in a very good way, so if you liked that movie, this is very fun to watch.

Feb 24, 2019it's a good show, not sure about the negative reviews here.. needs some time to build up, the first episode might not be the best start but you need to give it time, good actors and mystery..
people might read too much about a show before they build their own opinion.. -

Mar 26, 2019This show got so much potential. I didn't watch 1987 movie or read/listen to the book. But i liked all this Dead Space and Event Horizon Vibe. I just felt the need to watch to the end of this story. Its sad there wont be another season. Because for me it would be a big achievement to take forward this story from where it left us and give it a proper ending.

Unfortunately, the show never alchemizes these touchstones into a fresh, distinctive aesthetic. And when projects like this aren’t capable of knocking you out with style, they’d better have vivid characters and a riveting story to fall back on, and that’s not the case here, either.
-
The constant, clumsy back-and-forth story line is not [Buhler]'s only annoying affectation. He's also larded Nightflyer with references to other, better, works, from Star Trek to The Shining, probably intended in homage but really serving just to remind you how much better all of them were. And the abundant gore, no doubt a confused nod to Martin's original premise that horror and sci-fi can coexist in the same vehicle, serves no purpose at all. [Buhler] may think he's speaking in some advanced new artistic argot, but really, it's just a lot of outer-space jabberwocky.

There’s a sense all of this has been done before, and showrunner Jeff Buhler doesn’t quite know how to make it feel new again. It’s a testament to the pulpy dramatics of the source material that Nightflyers remains enjoyable to watch despite these weaknesses.
