Still, the mystery that unfolds is quite engaging and even with the slower pace, the show is really enjoyable and entertaining. Most of all because both Sissy Spacek and J. K. Simmons are solid leads.
The two have great chemistry and it's nice to see two actors their age leading a show in the present day.

Certainly there comes a point where the narrative becomes muddled by the inclusion of new characters that rather than providing a broader spectrum to the plot leaves too many questions in the air and its final episode has too many cliffhangers to feel really satisfying, this mostly because there is no certainty that this show is going to have a second season and considering the last scene, that would be very disappointing.

Give it a chance.

Show is amazing, it's not your typical tale of out of this world type experiences. It touches base on the many facets of humanity. There is love, drama, suspense, action and mystery.

Serie originale dal finale intrigante che merita ulteriore seguito e approfondimento. Stupisce la poca pubblicizzazione da parte di Amazon Prime.

You'll find several plot elements pulled right from that series, including subterranean chambers that are portals to "elsewhere". Our primary protag is a couple in their 80s so that contributes to a lot of the series' slow/boring pace. However, there's a decent sci-fi angle to this that leads to an unsatisfying reveal in the finale. There's plenty of character backstory material to keep this going for several seasons but I'm not thrilled at that prospect, because it'll just be more of them stretching 3 episodes of material - a movie, really - into 8 and I don't like watching shows with my finger on the FF button all the time. And given Amzn's history, we'd have to wait another year or two for the sophomore season, if that even happens. Expand

This show was so insanely boring. Sissy Spacek and J. K. Simmons are solid actors and did a good job with their roles, but the pacing of this show is monotonous. I, and I suspect many people, have limited entertainment time and I will not waste it waiting for a story to move along. I despise shows and movies that waste time with characters engaging in mundane activities like cooking, driving or even worse brushing their teeth. Expand

We have to assume that the sci-fi element develops in further eps, but the mundane, slow pace makes is hard to keep going. On the positive, both actors are captivating as always. The problem with a slow burn show is that it can be too slow and get cancelled, and then its not worth watching.

Took a chance on this as JK Simmons was in it and I'm glad I did. It's very solid however if you aren't a fan of mystery box type story telling then you probably won't like it. Looking forward to season 2 (if it happens)

It's pretty rare to get a show with two "old" leads, especially with this amount of depth and humanity. Maybe the writers are a little too heavy handed at hammering home their age but it's certainly effective at building an extreme amount of empathy for them. Instead of the "crouching tiger, hidden badass" that almost every other show/movie would go with we get incredibly realistic characters that have relatable joys, challenges, and flaws.

The sci-fi aspect is more than just a pretense to explore different relationships and the balance works quite well. Unlike LOST where viewers needed enough fast action and wild mystery to last a week until the next episode, this show has a more deliberate pace and worked better for me watching an episode a day. Don't expect a Raised by Wolves or The Expanse level immersion in an imaginary world and with hyper-extreme characters that you don't really connect with though. It's much closer to Outer Range where the stories about connection and family and the mystery of the unknown feed off and support each other.

In some regards, there's a level of wholesomeness to the show that leaves me happier and more optimistic and people in general than when i started watching. I felt primed at multiple junctures to worry about what a character experiencing tough emotions might do next and was rewarded with pleasant surprises and a realism of choice and action that you don't often see these days.

Can't wait for Season 2 !

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Slow with no burn. The premise is interesting, and Spacek and Simmons produce insightful performances. But the writing goes nowhere, introducing characters with no interest or arc, and dropping storylines abruptly. Set up neighbor’s political ambitions? Nah, just kill that storyline.
Touching grandfather / granddaughter scene? Move forward like it never happened.
Drunk character meet up in bar? Spend time on it and then walk away and drop all plot reference.
Imply a deep global conspiracy of hunting down others in the conspiracy, and then just let that float in the plot.

This is 75 minutes stretched into 8 hour long episodes.
