    Though it wanders in its middle episodes, Narcos: Mexico remains a finely written drama that loves to wow us with facts and maps even more than twists born from violent turns (which are, nevertheless, exceptionally effective). It’s smart, dense, and has a flare for the dramatic that keeps each episode interesting (and will have you, once again, running to Wikipedia to compare characters and events to their real-life counterparts).

    There are upwards of 20 main characters in Narcos: Mexico, and it’s a credit to showrunner Eric Newman—and their team of capable screenwriters and directors—that they all turn out to be distinctive and compelling.

    What could technically be called Narcos Season 5, is showing a rapid decline of quality and purpose for the show. In previous seasons, the show featured DEA agents that brought a convincing personal motivation to their involvement. This season however, we got Walt. A man that is almost invisible in contrast to all the Narcos.

    For some reason the season has an incredibly slow pace, showing petty disagreements between criminals as if it's high quality Shakespeare when it's not. The semi-documentary approach of the original first season is almost completely gone, and instead we get hours and hours of Felix Gallardo's constipated facial expression. The show is using filler more and more.

    Slow, boring and a shade of its former self. It's a very underwhelming season, i give it a 5/10.    … Full Review »
