Season 1 Review:
It would be enough for “Mythic Quest” to be funny, and it is. But in taking on the complex, under-examined world of video gaming, the creative team gave themselves a rich area in which their wild, clever, selfish characters can bounce around unlike any other currently on TV.

Season 1 Review:
Mythic Quest is funny. And Mythic Quest is capable of real feeling. The show’s biggest demerit, then, is that it can’t seem to find a way to be both at the same time; rather, it frequently feels like a tag-team match between its two sensibilities, with comedy doing the heavy lifting for the vast majority of that time. But that disjointed feeling isn’t enough to sabotage all the things Mythic Quest actually gets right.

Season 4 Review:
Gamer in-jokes abound, yet non-nerds need not fear – the video game setting, while sharply satirised, takes a back seat to a devastatingly funny portrait of workplace pettiness and the perils of putting too much technology at the disposal of the vain and dim-witted. Specific storylines involve industrial espionage and a disastrous murder mystery weekend, though plot largely takes a backseat to the steady supply of zingers.

Season 4 Review:
Charlotte Nicdao is given a range of material that ensures she’s the standout of a terrific ensemble. Season 4 isn’t without its downsides: some characters don’t get as much meaty material, and other storylines fizzle too soon. But a fun detour into a murder-mystery outing finds Mythic Quest at its best, highlighting how the writers keep leveling up.

Season 2 Review:
The jokes don’t always land, and when they do, they’re still fairly low-hanging. Still, Mythic Quest is more than its occasionally unfunny, occasionally hilarious sense of humor. ... Fortunately, skirting spoilers, the ending of Season 2 is, in a word, promising. The future of Mythic Quest is ripe with opportunities for these characters to grow.

Season 2 Review:
It’s a talented enough ensemble that the “let’s see what happens” feel of some of the writing and plotting still makes for enjoyable comedy, but it also feels like a show that’s just a step away from greatness, and so it can be frustrating to feel like it’s falling slightly short of its potential. Hopefully, a less infectious third season could find that focus.

Season 1 Review:
The first half of the season leverages these characters less as nuanced people than as bundles of eccentricities. ... The second half of the season more deeply examines the ambitions and fears of its characters, as well as the video game industry’s power dynamics. ... Though the episode [“A Dark Quiet Death”] is self-contained, it infuses the rest of the season with subtle weight and sympathy.

Season 2 Review:
The pieces are often compelling on their own, but the show struggles to make Ian and Poppy’s ongoing creative challenge seem like it’s happening in the same world as Jo’s silly and unhinged power play between David and Brad, or the interpersonal developments between the testers Rachel and Dana. ... Especially in the later episodes, Mythic Quest starts to nail the tricky tonal dance it has to do in its treatment of the art at the center of the show.

Season 2 Review:
I'm no fan of video games, but I'm hooked on the sardonic silliness of Mythic Quest. [10 - 23 May 2021, p.9]
Season 2 Review:
Sitcoms, [unlike dramas] though, have more of a learning curve, which is why the second seasons of shows like Always Sunny or The Office are so much better than their first. Mythic Quest fits neatly into that tradition, having translated a lot of its potential energy into real, kinetic laughter.

Season 1 Review:
Ultimately, I think I ended up feeling positive about Mythic Quest: Raven's Quest despite thinking the show is very hit-and-miss on an episodic level. It's not consistent, but it's already trending in the right direction in a story that, unlikely It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, features characters who can and should grow.

Season 1 Review:
Mythic Quest often plays like a mild lark uninterested in pushing itself into truly gonzo territory. Once its protagonists’ quirks and hang-ups have been firmly established, the series is able to play off of those attributes to wittier ends. Yet even so, none of its central figures are distinctive enough to stand out from any number of like-minded comedy efforts.

Season 1 Review:
The first few episodes are so full of smirk-inducing, long-winded bits that stammer on for such prolonged, repetitive back-and-forths that you’d think Judd Apatow let the cast run wild. ... Sometimes Mythic Quest’ll try for romantic or feel-good subplots that just utterly crash and burn, with little blame resting on their actors. ... Not just an unfunny comedy, but an entirely ineffective show that doesn’t seem to know what it is or where it’s going in a second season that Apple has already greenlit.
