"La Casa de Papel" is one of the most binge-worthy shows Netflix offers. It is nerve-wrecking, lightning-paced and full of twists and turns, both ridiculous and smart. It requires the highest suspension of belief; with these expectations, the bar is set and met.

It opens with a badass grrl who meets The Professor by shoving a gun in his crotch. The dialog, especially the voice-over, feels written by a teenager. It's hammy and predictable. Then they're all in a "classroom" and the The Professor explains his scheme, all the while these would-be "cream of the crop" thieves he's recruited joke around and snicker like little kids.

    It's probably okay

It's probably okay if you're the age for it, but I like heist films with whip-crack dialog like The Sting, and a plot that keeps me guessing. Money Heist felt predictable and formulaic from the first line of dialog.

    Review of first episode only.
This is a heist FANTASY and so far extremely competent and engaging.
Astonishing first ten minutes engages us not with hang-out get-to-know-you backstories (traditional narrative intro). Nor does it engage by starting with with violent action set-piece (the Hollywood way to engage audiences since 2010). This engages with an engaging lead, then writerly

Now audience is motivated to endure and pay attention to the character and world building. Masterful

I sort of get the hype over Money Heist but I do think it sort of suffers from being waaaaay too rated. It's a decent crime drama but, for my money, it has a really bad tendency to drag. It lasts 13 episodes for a story that realistically could have been told in 6 or 7. I noticed that season 2 has a reduced episode of count so I think I will check it out. I just felt like it kinda reminded me of the old Netflix Marvel shows where I know they would be much improved without all the filler. One final nitpick is that occasionally it falls into deus ex machina territory which, unfortunately, is one of my pet hates.

Despite these issues, I'd still say on the whole I enjoyed it; it has a very interesting premise and it's good enough to get it over the line. However, if I find season 2 hasn't much improved I'd say I'm extremely likely to drop it. 5 seasons of a show that is barely above average (imo) just isn't worth it for me.

It's very unusual to see Netflix producing something that isn't just overstretched **** The series was very interesting in the first few episodes, then became a bit stale in the middle, but then gained speed again in the last 4 or so episodes. 1st season of money is just breathtaking, its beyond perfect. I cant describe how good it is. Many amazing plot twists, perfectly shows personalities of each character. I love how the heist starts right in the first part and every preparing, backstory etc is shown during the heist.

S1, is unlike anything else on TV. The genius plot and script and absolutely cruel positions these characters have been put in are heartbreaking! Its full of suspense and slight agony. The strong dramatic irony, great cast, and wonderful color schemes which work hand in hand with the evil tone are a wonder! It's weirdly binge-worthy.
