Modern Family is a good sitcom. At first I did not want to like it but it has good writing and most importantly it is humorous. The cast works very well together with great comedic timing and rhythm. And the episodes move along at a very good pace.

My only criticism of this show is that the actor who plays Cam overplays the ‘gay role’ too much. What is ironic is that in real life he’s straight while his TV partner is gay.

Besides that most of the cast is great. “Phil” is a cross between Ozzie Nelson and Ozzie Osborne. “Jay” is Al Bundy, but older. “Gloria” just isn’t a teenage boy’s wet dream but has her comedic moments,

At the bottom of the pile when it comes to entertainment value for the show are Gloria’s son (Manny) and the Dunphy kids.

There are episodes that are entertaining, yet Clare and her dimwit husband are the worst examples of "parents" I have seen in decades. Both act as if they quit school at age twelve and never got any older. It's likely just MY inability to find humor in their situation, however typically I can say, "It's just TV" and move on. In their case - it just doesn't work.

It seems that in the last couple of years the "gay card" has been overplayed; it certainly is in this show. I see no entertainment value in either "partner" and if it was not for little 'Lilly' the only laughs generated by this side of the family would be when one of them is held up by another cast member. Individually the "guys" detract from every situation into which they are placed.

Gloria does make me laugh - a lot. She has the uncanny ability to take the best situation and misunderstand what is going on only to then turn around and be the focal point of laughter. "Mister Closet King" is certainly a lucky fellow; Gloria adores him and he is also a great dad capable of making the best (or worst) out of nearly every situation.

Bottom line: How the show wins award after award (even though shut out this year) is beyond me. I WILL keep watching though simply because when it is "funny" it is actually "hilarious".

I continue to watch this in hope that it will improve and it doesn't it lacks some much that all the other great comedies have. There is so much promise but they fail every single time.

Tan divertida como las 6 temporadas que la preceden, Modern Family es la mejor serie comedia estadounidense que hay ahora en emisión. Sencillamente genial.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 7 is funny and it's enjoyable. The thing is; nothing really happens. The characters don't really develop or accomplish anything. What really turned me down was the relationship between Haley and Andy that went nowhere. Expand

It's improved again ! Cam's performance was a bit overacted this time around and Gloria's character is stagnant but sitcoms aren't about character developments it's about getting the most out of your characters single defining characteristic.
