MIke and Molly has always worked so well because of the leads, however, it was also the support cast that often carried the laughs, and there were plenty to be had. Following Season One it grew offering plenty of laughs. Season 4 has, at times, had laughs aplenty; however, there is a definite change in the focus of the show. It is now, Mike and Molly proper, each and every episode, they are the focus and the laughs with the supporting cast have been sidelined to bit parts, often to one short scene per episode. What has happened to “Grandma”, so often the scene stealer, with her sassy attitude and fantastic one-liners? The characterisation of the support cast was always handled so well, Victoria’s’ return to study, Joyce’s’ relationship with Vince, this is what made Mike and Molly such a guilty pleasure. Season 4, I’m afraid, has delved into over sentimentality and an over simplistic vehicle for Mellissa McCarthy, who forging a popular film career herself, is now bigger than a TV series. It is a shame that this change in focus has come at the expense of the support cast. Still, there are laughs that should keep you entertained. Expand

The season 4 premiere mixes just enough cheesiness with poignant moments to pull it off.

Just call it Molly.... Trouble, is, Melissa McCarthy's brash persona in films is too big for the small screen. [11 Nov 2013, p.40]
