Midnight Family comes off as a bit soapy at times, but we get to see an aspect of how the medical field works in a place like Mexico City, along with a bunch of rescues that might be thrilling, tragic, silly or all three.

As a melodrama, it plays with the audience’s emotions accordingly. Sometimes that works, while other times it feels manipulative or—worse yet—predictable. But Midnight Family has more going for it than not, with a captivating family we’d happily stick with for another season.

The hook is the buccaneer flavor of a story about freelance first responders, and the versatility of the series, which comes in 10 episodes and seems to go as many action-packed ways.
