Feb 24, 2023Quite a unique little ecosystem here, with the unofficial town mayor acting as fixer, troubleshooter and go-between vis-a-vis the local prisons (more than one) and the reprobate ex-cons who still inhabit the town. The acting is robust, and it's not too outlandish to posit that this show is what happens when The Sons of Anarchy and City on a Hill have a baby.

Mar 29, 2023More of the same. Not that it's a bad thing. Think Bunny being in prison was a bit drawn out. Not as good as season 1

The grim goings-on and generally sour worldview that Mayor of Kingstown established with its first season have not abated with the arrival of its second. But nor has the fine acting and character work that exists in its many one-on-one moments.

The show is aiming for the dramatic heights of The Wire and The Shield but falls short. The performances are decent – particularly Taylor Handley as Mike’s police officer brother – and the plotting is assured. But it is undone by the violence for violence’s sake.

Ultimately, the “Mayor Of Kingstown,” like Mike McLusky, might be too consumed with power vacuums and containing multiple fires to consider its bigger picture.
