This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As someone who grew up with He-man cartoons, and still enjoys them today, He-Man revelation was a HUGE disappointment. As a child, i looked up to He-man as a hero. In this series, He-man and Adam are portrayed as failures and a disgrace. Also, He-man himself only shows up in the first episode and a few times in flashbacks AFTER THEY KILL HIM OFF!!! THAT'S RIGHT!! We were told this story was about He-man, but its really all about Teela. Yep, its Teela's story, which is utter garbage. It's a classic case of bait and switch. Using He-man to hype up a story NOT about He-man. Save yourself the money and go re-watch the original cartoons if you want a REAL He-man story. This isn't it. THIS is nothing but a story with an agenda to prop up a strong woman, and put down a strong man. 100%. If that doesn't appeal to you, or you are expecting a traditional He-man story, this is a hard skip for sure. The only redeeming factor if the art and animation. It was good. Could have been so great if they would have just given us the story WE wanted and not the story THEY wanted. Expand

This is an absolute waste of a classic 80s IP refresh that is loved by adults today. What's on offer is a woke PC squad party, the voice acting is forgettable so too is the script. Aside from the 'let's rip on' the supposed main character but then do exactly the same troupe minutes later.

This is honestly a classic case of not reading the room and making something that not only detracts from the heart of the original (some my call cheesey nature) show but **** all over it.

Mattel will suffer loses on product from this show as adults who the figures are aimed at will boycott on mass.

I score this a 1 for Mark Hamill as skeletor...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MOTU Viewer: Hey, so why would Teela decide to abandon her post, her dream job, her army, her kingdom, two grieving parents, and disown her family just because she didn't know Adam was He-Man? Like, it's not a great place to be, but loads of ppl didn't know he was He-Man. Even his own dad. And the ones who did know, knew because the Sorceress told them back in the day, not Adam, and only so Adam would have guides and support while he bore the burden of being He-Man and keeping the secrets of Grayskull and the sword of power safe. All this seems like a bit of a wild reaction if I'm honest, and completely out of character for Teela. Why is she such an emotionally resentful and self-centred person now?
Show: Don't know. But look how strong and female she is. And gay.
Viewer: Yeah, about that, how come you imply she's gay now, but do nothing with it in terms of the narrative or in developing her character. This kinda reminds me of Loki's throwaway bi-sexuality. You do less here than shows who first did this sort of thing more than a decade ago, like Korra and Xena. But these days, isn't this just cynical and lazy queerbaiting?
Show: Nope. It's (reads from cue card) diverse and inclusive.
Viewer: Hey, so this Andra girl is smart (except when she doesn't know anything about a massive war that happened a handful of years ago for some reason), brave, and pretty self-less. She seems to want to be a hero and help Eternia. This motivation would appear to put her wants and needs at complete odds with Teela's, who only cares about money and not being a hero. Why at no point during the series does that ever become a point of conflict as more and more people die and the mission becomes more dangerous?
    Show: Don't know.
Viewer: Hey, so how did Teela manage to summon magical power she had no idea she possessed when fighting not-Skeletor in hell? What did she do to subdue him in his own house, and nab the sword? It seemed to be more than turning his game against him, and something awakened in her akin to the Sorceress' power. How did any of that work? Why did it seem so easy and convenient? Even the Sorceress can't do magic like that quite so easily. What gives?
Show: Don't know. But she's his worst nightmare now!
Viewer: (sighs...) she certainly is. So, if she's doing magic now, and she hates magic, shouldn't she have less of a gung-ho reaction to it? Shouldn't she be slightly disturbed at what this means? And why doesn't she, you know, just do it again and own not-Skeletor instead of letting Orko **** die and blaming Evil-Lyn for it?
    Show:
Viewer: Hey, so why does Teela mourn the death of Roboto more than Adam? In fact, if he has all of Duncan's memories, wouldn't he also have known Adam was He-Man? Is she not pissed off at him as well?
Show: Because she's a complex and emotional creature, misogynist. And as for the Roboto knowing everything Duncan knows... yea, I guess Teela kinda forgot about that.
Viewer: Hey, so does Teela really not speak to her dad, Orko, Cringer, or Roboto after leaving the palace until the events of episode 3? She has no idea how sick Orko was or how they were doing? But wouldn't she have wanted answers about Adam and the secret once she calmed down and got herself together? Wouldn't she want to reconsider all her rash decisions before this point and reach out to her father to understand the truth that was hidden from her? Did she really just cut them all out of her life because they told her a lie? Like, completely and forever cut them out? Is Teela a psychopath? A narcissist?
Show: No, she's a strong woman now, and to be a strong woman, you simply need to be just like a man, but without the reason or accountability. And you need muscles.
    Viewer: About the muscles...
Show: She's a warrior, you big chauvinist. Girl warriors have muscles.
Viewer: Okay... then why does Evil-Lyn have huge muscles? She's not a physical warrior. She's a mage who needs hired guns to do full-on fighting for her.
    Show: Err...
Viewer: While we're at it, if all the magic's gone from Eternia except for wee scraps here and there, how is Evil-Lyn initially doing that disguise spell? And why is she being presented as some sort of spurned yet redeemable anti-hero rather than Skeletor's co-conspirator?
Show: Now you listen to us, boy. All women are inherently good. All men are liars, heretics, cheats, bad fathers, skeleton monsters, or DEAD. Keep up. You're just angry because you think we ruined He-Man.
Viewer: You didn't ruin him. How could you? He's not in it. You didn't ruin Skeletor either. Because he's also not in it - and it's probably for the best because I don't trust you to write for that supreme, meme machine, sassy **** You ruined Teela. You kinda ruined Man At Arms. The only one you didn't ruin was Orko and that's because you **** killed him instead.
Show: I'm so glad we could subvert your expectations.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First let me say Powerhouse does a stellar job on animating this turd. Everything else is just trash. Teela is an unlikable, whiny mentally weak B. I might have bought Teela hooking up with the mcguffin better than any man chick if it was as a result of seeing the love of your life die, but no it is because her little tender feelings were hurt. And don't give me that they aren't together...they clearly are. He-Man/Adam is turned into a joke. Man-at-Arms is tossed to the side like an old dishrag. And the voice acting just doesn't work. I don't want Joke-e-tor. I don't want linguist Mer-Man. I don't want chipper cheerleader voice for petty bitter selfish Teela-ish character. I don't want political commentary. I just wanted a fun action cartoon. The concept for the show has some merit on its face value, but the execution is pathetic. The best description I can think of is "This is a show for people unfamiliar with the lore by people who hate the lore." Add the blatant lying of Kevin Smith and the Bait and Switch advertising and you get a trainwreck waiting to happen. Shame on Mr. Smith for attacking people reporting what we now know are totally accurate rumors. Sadly the rumors were true. It is not a truly bad show but the lies and misleading of fans will decrease the ratings a lot. Lets start with the elephant in the room: He-Man is very sparingly used in this show to say it mildly and Teela is the main character. This is normally not a problem especially if the show is good or it fits the narrative (and I would no mind if both are truly good).Sadly the rumors were true. It is not a truly bad show but the lies and misleading of fans will decrease the ratings a lot. Lets start with the elephant in the room: He-Man is very sparingly used in this show to say it mildly and Teela is the main character. This is normally not a problem especially if the show is good or it fits the narrative (and I would no mind if both are truly good). However there are some valid arguments against this in this case. Firstly they promised a He-Man show and nothing else and especially Kevin Smith made a lot of now proven lies about this on social media. Secondly everyone who grew up with the show knew that He-Man was the boys show and She-Ra the girls show. This means not that you cant have strong females or males in the other show as for example the Sorceress is the most powerful character in He-man and probably atop on the wisest characters list too. So they harmed the expectation twice. While I use a phrase with the word “expectations” you hear a lot that the show is a repeat of “The Last Jedi” in poorly subvert expectation and angering a lot of the fan base. Sadly a fair and valid point. Lastly they show that they have no confidence in their own show, ideas and decisions as they could have told this passionately to the (potential) viewers. To be fair for the last point it could also backfire but you would not be labeled as liars that mislabeled a product. I might sound too negative as the show is not that bad. The visuals and characters look really good and I praise them for this. The art style is top notch too and fully appealing. Just look at the official poster or trailer. It has a high value and I will praise the show for it too. Then there are the voice actors: I would never complain with such an awesome cast with for example Mark Hamill, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lena Headey, Susan Eisenberg and Chris Wood. For me this is an all star team and a true strength. Now to the next elephant in the room with the story. I think it is not that bad and everyone should remember that the old show was never about telling deep Shakespearean stories. It was good and enjoyable but not in a top tier story level. I think the ideas and twists work but cant turn the tide. To clarify: I see a lot of good ideas and moments but these cant keep up against the negatives. Overall this will be in the list of re-imagination of established characters or shows that fail to win the old fans or core audience. I will conclude with: Dear producers and directors. If you want to tell your own stories than do it. If you want to redo / revive a show then please look into what made it good back thenfor the viewers and use this well. Take an example were that worked well like “Mad Max Fury Road” or “The Mandalorian” and how to subvert expectations in an awesome way in “Avengers Infinity War” and “Avengers Endgame”. Expand

Yet it is fairly good in a lot of ways.

First off you will NEVER encounter a better voice cast for anything related to He Man. They even got Henry Rollins to be a very calm and persuasive individual for crying out loud. All of the voice work is top notch.

The writing isnt terrible. The story is more or less decent. We have all sat through worse. Some characters were really well done in fact. Like Orko surprisingly.

Then the bad creeps in and takes over.

First off, Even if they are breaking a season into 2 segments, 5 episodes is pretty light.

Also the animation looks OK. Definitely not great. It looks like an anime from 2010 give or take.

Then there is the elephant in the room. Yes, the show has a Teela problem. That is why it was smart to not have He-Man in the title. Masters of the Universe was the logical way of getting around what they knew they were doing.

It drips with SJW influence from beginning to end. Do they craft a good story despite that? More or less. That said you cannot escape it because you get reminders of it in every episode. Even then it still fails the whole Bechtal test given the gaping absence built into the plot that effectively becomes a Magguffin.

Its clearly bending over backwards to take something viewed as embodiment of masculinity and does its best to curb stomp it and disregard the target demographic, the lore of the story or anything else relevant about it.

Conclusion: The voice cast and more dark nature of this story goes exceedingly far to make up for all that is wrong with it. I still have to deduct 5 points just for the SJW agenda being pushed. Another point for the behind the curve anime. Leaving it at a 4. Had it not been for that agenda which is a completely avoidable problem, this would have been between a 9-10 for me.

So hope it was worth it alienating the target demographic for this. Whos to say we will even see the second half given how terrible the reviews have been. I feel my grade is quite forgiving for just how bad it actually is.

Sadly, you brought this on yourself.

EDIT: After seeing the second half of Season 1 I had to come back and update this review.

    It got SOOO much worse.

While the first half had at least a glimmer of potential, the second half ruins it all. The overall production is still good but the writing is a literal abomination. It misses the point, It actively spits in the face of the franchise, and leaves a stain on the franchise that will take quite a lot of effort to undo.

There is no way Smith actually had any involvement with this because this is literally the most misandrist garbage ever animated.

There COULD have been room to elevate women in this franchise, this was NOT the way to do it because it effectively became fem centric sexist in the process.

Originally scored for the first half a 4. Reducing that down to a 1 because it amplifies everything wrong with the first half.

Still have to give some score for the quality of animation and the voice cast which was top notch. The writing is as stated before an absolute abomination and someone needs to be held accountable for this.

First I have to say, it's not as bad as I thought it would be...

Yes, this is more Teela than He-Man, but the general idea was not that bad.
And you can say what you want, Teela is clearly in love with the other character I already forget the name of...
    So yes, agenda -> Check!

However, the whole 5 episodes felt like one oversized episode and there is still a lot to complain about.
While Teelas reaction in the first episode is somewhat relatable, the outcome is a mirror of modern society. Instead of talking it out and asking for the reasons, it more like "I quit!", which in my eyes is a huge overreaction. But I guess even cartoon characters are offended about everything nowadays...

Besides that a lot of character development is not going as planned, at least not for me...
The death of Orco and the robot dude are really meaningless and I couldn't care less. While they tried to make Orco more "care-able", it was so forced and nothing really new was told. For the robot dude I really had no connection at all...

The whole 5 episodes felt kind of confusing and it looked like there was no clear vision, what this wants to be.

Positiv was, that the animation is good and there is a nice little twist at the end, but that's about it...

All in all, this is a mediocre "reboot", at least until now. Let's see how the rest will turn out...

Animation is cool, but that’s literally it. This is just yet another politically motivated stunt to attack men and elevate women for whatever reason we can’t just have strong men and strong women in a series anymore everything has to push an agenda created by an extremist movement in American society.

Not as much He-man as I would have liked and if the aim was to sell He-man toys, then the first half fails miserably BUT I have been overjoyed at how Man-at-arms and Teela have been used and would be all over toys of them. Hopefully things can pick up in the second half of the series and we get a few more boulder tosses and screen punches to go with the improved animation and storytelling.

MOTU: Revelation is very interesting twist on the MOTU storyline. He-Man is not present for the majority of the story past the first episode. But, the plot gives a very good reason for doing so, and honestly, it's done well, and makes for a fairly high stakes story that drives an ensemble of He-Man fan favorites, heroes and villains alike together in a pretty interesting storyline that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Let's address the elephant in the room, though. The trailers, the did lie. Kevin Smith did lie. And honestly, that's a shame. Had they been upfront about this MOTU series not headlining He-Man as the main hook, I think many of the (re)viewers would've given it a much fairer shot than it's getting right now. As a MOTU fan, I am perfectly down for an ensemble cast of side characters getting some spotlight while He-Man takes a backseat if it's done well. And this story does so VERY well, and in a way I feel is very respectful to the character. But, when you mess with the expectations of fans in order to trick them into a hype train, don't be surprised when that train runs you over.

But, all that aside, I'm looking at this series for itself. Animation? Come on, it's the studio that did Castlevania. It's gorgeous. Music? Feels pretty much out of the original series. Could've used more energy and synthy stuff, but it's fine. Dialogue and characters? It's got plenty of the old series camp and hokeyness, but does so a bit more seriously and nothing seems completely out of character or out of nowhere.

The story itself does focus on Teela. I wish they'd advertised that than baiting a He-Man focus, but putting that aside, it does make more sense than some people think. Being the daughter of The Sorceress and adopted child of Man-At-Arms, she's got the background to hold her own and plenty of room to take spotlight and be a champion of her own. I just wish they'd led with that fact in advertising.

There's a few bits of SJW-ish stuff. Grayskull has been redesigned as a black man, despite previous showings of him being very visually a direct inspiration and ancestor to He-Man. It's tokenization and has no relevance to the plot, but it's there and it's obvious why. Annoying blackwashing for brownie points on Twitter. I just roll my eyes and keep going since it has zero relevance to the plot so it doesn't matter in context to anything. They could've made Grayskull a chicken in a gimp suit and it'd have been just as important to the story, and just as meaningless and arbitrary a change.

I don't see any real feminist or LGBT agenda pushing in it like some people say. And to clarify, I'm a fairly conservative dude, so I'm supposed to see some conspiracies in this sorta thing, right? But, to the point, there's nothing to talk about in that section. It's a magical fantasy land where everyone's a Viking or a wizard, it's not shocking when Teela or Evil-Lyn can hold their own. Besides, they never do any lore-breaking feats like out-punching He-Man or some crap. They're just competent. And as far as design changes... I mean, it's not the OG designs, and that's mildly disappointing, but I'd also expect some changes here and there. Sure, Teela isn't as feminized as she used to be, but it's not horrendously ugly or anything. It's just functional armor. Doesn't bother me, but I can see why some of the OG design fans are a little upset, though I think they might be overreacting a tad. As for Teela and Andra, if that's supposed to be LGBT, I think the LGBT crowd is gonna be pissed at it. They seem more like friends and adventuring partners than lovers, and there's no actual affection shown between them, so... yeah, I'm not seeing it. So, either, it's the most naturally written romantic partnership ever written, in which case I'm fine because they're not obnoxiously shoving it down my throat, or, there's nothing there, and again, I have no complaint.

All in all. Is it perfect? No.
Is the 80s reboot everyone was hoping for? No.
Did Kevin Smith bait and switch people into a hype train frenzy he couldn't possibly hope to live up to? Absolutely.
Is MOTU: Revelation worth a watch? Yes

If you like MOTU, you'll probably enjoy this. It's not all He-Man, but you'll get plenty of the rest of the cast, and I personally loved seeing Man-At-Arms kick some ass, among other things. Give it a try with an open mind and I think you'll walk away happier than if you let your expectations run high.

Good, not perfect, but good (5 episodes so far).
This series is a continuation of an old children's cartoon of the 80's, that mix Heroic Fantasy and Sci-fi in a classic clash between good and evil. The old series (merchandise and toys above all ) have had a cultural impact and became a pop icon still loved and remembered with affection today (so it is a sensitive subject for some)

    Positive stuff:
-It's a show created for, and enjoyable by old fans of Masters of the universe (like me, i'm a vintage toy collector and all)...it's not a remake for new generations ...and this alone is a MIRACLE. There are too many remake of classic stuff around and we don't need another tv show that use and old name but tells a totally different story. It's waaay better than Netflix She-ra reboot or Transformers remake , or something boring like Robocop 2014 movie. This also means that if you aren't familiar with MOTU franchise you can't understand lots of references and will not enjoy it

-I had hype about this series ...and often when you have much expectation about something you'll be easily, disappointed... but not here. This deliver most of the things that i liked...familiar charactres, actions, a little drama. I prefer to judge a serie for what it is not for what Il expected in my speculations. I watched 5 episodes in one day and now I want more. There are some things that are off balance, yes but good stuff here are much more numerous than bad ones

-Easter eggs are used in a clever way, make some sort of sense in the show because are a part of the story . Veichles from the toy line are used during figths for example and not just put in the background to make fans scream

-Cartoon targeted for adults...people adventures will have impacts on the story and character emotions. But characters development isn't deep (at least in this first 5 episodes)

    Cons:
-Animation could be better, and visuals in general could be a little more easy on the eyes. But it's not a big deal and we need to consider 2 years of pandemic crisis

-Some part of the story could be easilly spotted before hands.

-There are some mandatory PC subtexts that can alter a few minor things in some characters. But it really just minor things, nothing irritating or to be "upset" about. It isn't something to complain about: It's modern time, get over it.

-Soundtrack seems less epic than old cartoon scores

To sum up....i've watched MOTU when i was a child in the 80's and now that i'm old enough to have a family of my own...I watched He man punching Skeletor with almost the same joy of 40 years ago . I didn't expect that I can still feel something with a simple cartoon on tv.
    Thanks for this Kevin

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Short version: technically well made show with a story that, while competently written for the most part, will disappoint fans of He-Man.

    Long version (contains spoilers):
This is not a He-Man show. This is a Teela show. For the majority of the season, you will not see He-Man. The story focuses on Teela and this other black chick character that is insinuated to be Teela's love interest (cursory search on Google seems to show it's a minor character from the old show, Ileena, that has been repurposed as a way to appease diversity extremists).

So if you sat down in front of your TV to watch a story about He-Man, the character you loved from your childhood, you will be disappointed.

With the above said, this is a decent show:

    - The animation is good, with character models (for the most part), vehicles and locations that you will recognize from the old show and the toys.

    - The voice acting is competent, with a cast of high level performers that mostly fit their roles perfectly.

    - The writing, despite the bait and switch maneuver, is not bad at all. You will get to know many of the characters that surrounded He-Man all these years in a much deeper way.

In sum, even though I am certainly upset that this is a He-Man show without He-Man, all the low scores are unjustified... as are all the 9s and 10s.

The way I see it, this can be between a 6 and a 7 depending on how much it irks you that they removed He-Man from the equation. Less than that, you are letting your disappointment get the better of you (you have good reason to be disappointed, though); more than that, you are just giving the show points for its current affairs messages (diversity, "girls get it done", etc.).

If there is a second season, I would give it a chance, but at some point He-Man needs to come back. Let's remember that the original show was titled "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe".

Don't listen to the user score on this one, if you can look past the bait and switch you'll find a great show truly meant for any Masters of the Universe fan. Teela does quite well in the protagonist role and her hesitation to rise to her new role will be relatable to those hesitant about their own future, Andro is fun and likeable if a bit underused, so I hope to see more of her in part 2. Evil-Lyn is great in her role, which surprised me as someone who always sort of forgot about her and I can only see her getting better from this point on, and the supporting cast of Orko, Beastman, Roboto and Man-At-Arms all play great roles too. And despite what others tell you, no, He-Man/Prince Adam does not get shafted, there's a decent amount of time in every episode where He-Man or Prince Adam get screen time and it's all good stuff. Skeletor, for the time he got, was also fantastic and I hope to see more of him. Triclops as a cult leader with Trapjaw second in command was a great idea that I hope they continue with in part 2. A solid start. Yes, the animation is great, but the story makes really bold and takes the show in interesting directions.

Great show. I loved the classics and love this. I don’t understand this hate. People really just want the same again and then cry why is it the same

I don't understand the hate for this show I was born in the 1980s and watch the original when it aired. Honestly if you go back and watch that show now its fine but minus a few episodes its the same show over and over, I only can watch like maybe 2 episodes now because it gets boring pretty quick. You'll notice an awful lot of these reviews are simply complaints about supposed "wokeness" from people who are unable to separate their political views from their ability to enjoy things. If you're a normal person not poisoned by the culture war you'll likely find it a fairly enjoyable animated series.

    Giving a show a 0 score because of a woman's haircut, honestly.

I grew up with the original He-Man and She-Ra which I loved and i’d say this is a really fun and fresh spin on the He-Man and friends.

Amazing show, true to the spirit of the original show. Definitely feels like a Kevin Smith show, has his fingerprints all over it. That's a very good thing.

Sensational! So much fun. It's a little subversive, well written, brilliantly acted and brought me tears of nostalgia. Better than the recent Voltron re-do. 10/10, I'd give it 15/10 because it's also managed to upset the incels!

Kevin Smith took what was literally a stagnant property and breathed new life into it towards a completely different direction and out come all the Edgelords and Incels whining about it. It's a fun, short and easily watchable 5 episode series. It was great to see old characters back on screen again after all these years and focuses on the supporting cast rather than He-Man.

Story wise, there's a few dumb character choices at times and it was probably a massive mistake sidelining He-Man and Skeletor. It will need a second season to actually become a He-Man show but based on the reactions of most people right now, I doubt we'll ever see it.

The show was good. Was sympathetic to those upset until I looked at the name of the show. I hope the next half of the season continues bringing the goods in spite of the hate.

Full disclosure, I have watched the original He-man series, so this is a review of someone who knows very little of the franchise other than the bare basics. That being said, you don't need to know all the much about He-man to understand the plot. It doesn't take a genius to figure out the relationship she had with the heroes prior to this series).

As for the execution of the story itself, it's pretty enjoyable. The story starts off with an event, that I would imagine, changes the status quo for the series. This is an interesting idea and it made me wish that I had a deeper relationship with the original as it would likely would have a larger impact on me. But nonetheless, we get the idea that things will change for the characters and the dynamics of the show will be radically different from the original. The events that unfold thereafter, while not revolutionary, does what it needs to in introducing newcomers like myself to the many different characters and sets up the second part with a great cliff hanger ending that promises that once again, the status quo has changed.

Speaking of characters, this show has quite a few of them and many of them were surprisingly compelling. The show put a focus on presumably side characters from the original and gave them a heart that made me care about them in the brief time that I knew them. The biggest let down was perhaps the main character of the first part who's personality seem to be that they are angry and bitter about what happen to them, but not much else. Perhaps I would have liked them better if I had watch the original, but as it stands, I found the side characters to be much more enjoyable.

Everything surrounding this series is so much more interesting than the actual experience, starting with the descent of my generation into boomer-ing. Middle aged man getting worked up about a continuation of a cartoon they watched when they were 6 to the point where nothing less but civilization and everything good and holy is at stake and being destroyed by evil forces is a lot more epic than what Kevin Smith presents here, even though he stole his ideas from the best franchises out there.

And for a good reason - the original lore and the formula of what used to be little more than a toy commercial is f*ing retarded. With a cast and talent like this at hand I'd rather get fired than waste those resources on recreating that trash. The main character were as one-note as they can be, and there was exactly one and only one storyline repeated endlessly. And yes, you loved that when you were six because your brain was also six and you needed rituals and endless repetition and clear black and white because everything was terribly confusing already, but dear lord, now you are 46 and you should have learned to cope with it.

Especially since all the new elements aren't exactly groundbreaking and unheard of. Some borgs here, a Wonderwoman there, there's Ironman and evil Aquaman, there's that evil queen from Game of Thrones with yet another redemption arc who even sounds like that evil queen, there's some obvious inspiration from Akira in the animation and the whole worldbuilding lore has been copypasted from Stephen King's "Dark Tower", and suprise, the result is quiet decent. Borderline entertaining. Even though it mixes so many elements it almost finds it's own ground and isn't entirely predictable. I had wished for something like that when I was 6, the voice actors are amazing. It does kill time, but it doesn't waste it completely. Unlike the original where the same guy won against that other guy episode after episode you are even a little curious what will happen next, beyond "will He-Man's hair ever move" or "how does a skull have facial expressions".

I wouldn't have even noticed this thing without the outcry, paying the creators in the internet's most precious currency - attention. So congratulations to the creators, this is my TV surprise of 2021, because I'd never thought I'd watch this. And it has nothing to do with the actual experience, which is... pretty ok. I'm just too old for that stuff by now.

It may take a little while to fully get into what Masters of the Universe: Revelation is doing if you are not already familiar with the franchise. But whether you're a longtime fan or just hungry for a unique blend of sci-fi and fantasy, this show offers an exhilarating adventure that justifies the era of the legacyquel, while proving itself a necessary and essential part of the Masters of the Universe mythos.

Smith eschews his normally wordy dialogue style, but keeps the characters smart and real, which helps us want to follow all of them as they go on their journey. He also hews closely to the convoluted world that is Eternia, where there’s layer upon layer of intrigue and mysticism that needs to be restored or captured. The animation is an upgraded version of the ’80s Filmation style the original show had, but with just enough retro touches to keep the show connected to its predecessor.
