    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First let me say Powerhouse does a stellar job on animating this turd. Everything else is just trash. Teela is an unlikable, whiny mentally weak B. I might have bought Teela hooking up with the mcguffin better than any man chick if it was as a result of seeing the love of your life die, but no it is because her little tender feelings were hurt. And don't give me that they aren't together...they clearly are. He-Man/Adam is turned into a joke. Man-at-Arms is tossed to the side like an old dishrag. And the voice acting just doesn't work. I don't want Joke-e-tor. I don't want linguist Mer-Man. I don't want chipper cheerleader voice for petty bitter selfish Teela-ish character. I don't want political commentary. I just wanted a fun action cartoon. The concept for the show has some merit on its face value, but the execution is pathetic. The best description I can think of is "This is a show for people unfamiliar with the lore by people who hate the lore." Add the blatant lying of Kevin Smith and the Bait and Switch advertising and you get a trainwreck waiting to happen. Shame on Mr. Smith for attacking people reporting what we now know are totally accurate rumors. Shame for lying about loving He-Man when it has been shown that in the past you repeatedly put out there that you didn't like the character or show.     Absolutely abhorrent. It's clearly a bait&switch. He man is front and center in all the merchandise, but in the show he is sidelined and everything revolves about Teela, who no one cares about.

While the show has a good amount of tributes and easter eggs that are fun, it ends failing because they made the protagonist, that is Teela, unlikelible and self-centered so much that we worries only about herself when Adam parents are crying her death or people are telling her the world will end if she does not help.
    If you can't like the protagonist, it is impossible to enjoy the show, other issues as making Adam/He-Man kinda dumb are minor compared to this. Andra was much better developed and likeable in much short screen time in the show and would do a much better main character.    … Expand

    Amazingly animated and beautifully scored. I really appreciate the fact that Kevin had the courage of not concentrating the whole show on He-man alone.That decision in my opinion really gives the whole show a much needed space to breath and expand on the world and myths. As long as you understand that this is masters of the universe and not the He-man show, you will without a doubt enjoyAmazingly animated and beautifully scored.     The most tragic aspect of this transformation is about him turning into liar and coward who stabs any given fandom (even his own ViewAskew fans) at any given chance. As a child, i looked up to He-man as a hero. In this series, He-man and Adam are portrayed as failures and a disgrace. Also, He-man himself only shows up in the first episode and a few times in flashbacks AFTER THEY KILL HIM OFF!!! THAT'S RIGHT!! We were told this story was about He-man, but its really all about Teela. Yep, its Teela's story, which is utter garbage. It's a classic case of bait and switch. Using He-man to hype up a story NOT about He-man. Save yourself the money and go re-watch the original cartoons if you want a REAL He-man story. This isn't it. THIS is nothing but a story with an agenda to prop up a strong woman, and put down a strong man. 100%. If that doesn't appeal to you, or you are expecting a traditional He-man story, this is a hard skip for sure. The only redeeming factor if the art and animation. It was good. Could have been so great if they would have just given us the story WE wanted and not the story THEY wanted.… Expand

    The original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was a show that existed to sell toys, but it was so well-done it created a fad with a cult following. It had great art, a really great rock soundtrack. It had limited stock animations and limited stock sounds but they were all good and evocative.

    This show was marketed at old-school fans. The only thing better than the original is the animation, but the things being animated are worse. The new characters are less attractive, and the soundtrack, both effects and music is bland.

    In the first episode a number of things happen, Teela becomes the lead character. He-man is only in flashbacks thereafter except Prince Adam is in the 5th episode. Unfortunately, this is not the beautiful, capable Teela of the 1980s. This is a nasty, petty, sulky, narcissistic, physically and morally unattractive version of Teela who acts like a spoiled teenager even when the world is in danger.

    Without spoilers, this is a story that tries so hard to be woke, but cannot even accomplish that. The patronising minority characters are patronising caricatures.

    Beloved major characters are killed, and the ones who survive are twisted until they are contemptible.

    This is not something that will appeal to fans of the original series. It is not entirely clear who else it would appeal to. 1 point for the animation, and nothing for anything else.

    Advertising is a bit misleading unless something dramatic changes in the next 5 episodes.

    If youre looking for he-man youre going to be disappointed. Theres very little to no character development at any point and the story is just kinda ok all the way through. Few shock scenes to try and make you feel something but they all fall flat.

    Disappointing. I had high hopes.

It was a terrible shame and missed opportunity when in this version they killed He-Man not once but twice and spent the whole series belittling him. I get having diversity in things, but to have one of the most manly characters (hence the name) portrayed this way, is just disrespectful.     image a reboot of Buffy. She get's killed in the first 20min and Angel takes over. Willow is portrayed as weak and dumb, as are all other female characters. Now change the genders and you have this show.

    Don't listen to the user score on this one, if you can look past the bait and switch you'll find a great show truly meant for any Masters of the Universe fan. Teela does quite well in the protagonist role and her hesitation to rise to her new role will be relatable to those hesitant about their own future, Andro is fun and likeable if a bit underused, so I hope to see more of her in part 2. Evil-Lyn is great in her role, which surprised me as someone who always sort of forgot about her and I can only see her getting better from this point on, and the supporting cast of Orko, Beastman, Roboto and Man-At-Arms all play great roles too. And despite what others tell you, no, He-Man/Prince Adam does not get shafted, there's a decent amount of time in every episode where He-Man or Prince Adam get screen time and it's all good stuff. Skeletor, for the time he got, was also fantastic and I hope to see more of him. Triclops as a cult leader with Trapjaw second in command was a great idea that I hope they continue with in part 2. All in all these 5 episodes have been great and was truly made for Masters of the Universe fans. I can't recommend it enough    … Expand

The dialog is often trite, even unintentionally hilarious it's so bad. It doesn't feel true to the original series at all despite supposedly being a continuation. And finally, and most egregiously, it commitsThis is unfortunately a poor show from a story and dialog perspective. The "shocking" cliff hanger at the end of the season feels stupid and ham-fisted.

    It's only saving grace is the art and animation. Vivid and bright, the effects of magic and the colorful cast of heroes and rogues are at times arresting and always a joy to watch. It's just a shame that the story they're acting out for the audience is such a poor, boring one.

    I can't recommend this to either old fans nor newcomers, children nor adults. I am not sure who this is for. One thing I am certain of: this is definitely the last time I'll be bothering with anything that has Kevin Smith's name on it. I am not going throw hours of my time down a black hole of silly boredom again.    … Expand

    First I have to say, it's not as bad as I thought it would be...

    Yes, this is more Teela than He-Man, but the general idea was not that bad.
    And you can say what you want, Teela is clearly in love with the other character I already forget the name of...
    So yes, agenda -> Check!

    However, the whole 5 episodes felt like one oversized episode and there is still a lot to complain about.
    While Teelas reaction in the first episode is somewhat relatable, the outcome is a mirror of modern society. Instead of talking it out and asking for the reasons, it more like "I quit!", which in my eyes is a huge overreaction. But I guess even cartoon characters are offended about everything nowadays...

    Besides that a lot of character development is not going as planned, at least not for me...
    The death of Orco and the robot dude are really meaningless and I couldn't care less. While they tried to make Orco more "care-able", it was so forced and nothing really new was told. For the robot dude I really had no connection at all...

    The whole 5 episodes felt kind of confusing and it looked like there was no clear vision, what this wants to be.

    Positiv was, that the animation is good and there is a nice little twist at the end, but that's about it...

    All in all, this is a mediocre "reboot", at least until now. Let's see how the rest will turn out...    … Expand

Amazing that my favourite character as a kid was killed off, removed from first billing (i.e. show title), then make the show about a secondary character. Teela was a fantastic character in the original series, but comes off like a sook in the first episode and not someone I care to follow the adventures of moving forward. Gave Kevin Smith the benefit of the doubt after the leaks, but turns out he's a liar. Much respect lost and I won't be watching beyond the first couple minutes I unfortunately watched of episode two.… Expand

This really makes me wish show runners would work *purely on the enjoyment aspect of their craft rather than a scoreboard on how many points that can be achieved arbitrarily inserting their take on today's society. Also my humble suggestion - at all costs try to preserve at least the essence of the original show. In this case this show is not aimed at anyone from the original audience. It was mostly enjoyable, until the 16:30 mark where the very event that drives the plot forward could have been so very easily avoided if He-Man, one of the most competent characters in fiction, had just not stood still like a moron while Skeletor very slowly and obviously did something blatantly evil. This is a textbook example of an Idiot Plot — that is, a plot that can only develop when the characters act like idiots. Unfortunately, this happens in the first episode and is the part that sets up all subsequent events. I could give it a pass if this were the original or even the 200X reboot, but since Revelation wants to be a mature take on MOTU, it gets no excuse for bad writing. The rest of the show could be good for all I know, but as someone who's only seen the first episode, the triggering event is too stupid to make me want to watch the rest; it's hard to get invested in the story or even take it as seriously as it wants to be taken when the very premise is contrived to the point of idiocy.… Expand

This show is just BAD. Animation is mediocre and not even close to Castlevania levels. But the writing by Smith is just pathetic. The grand revelation from the first episode is that Castle Grayskull is not a center of magic, but a hologram skin, that has... just a differently designed castle with another name and the same role. That is a level of epic "revelations" here, people. And the reaction "YOU ALL LIARS!" from Teela after hearing about Adam's secret... that is the cliche that all the worst CW shows base all their drama upon constantly. Not surprising from a fan of CW shows, but painfully unoriginal and cringe non the less.

    I'll always love Dogma, but it's been quite a while since Kevin did anything worthwhile as aa writer. And that show is as bad as all his newest works. Only here he also managed to sell out his fans.    … Expand

    Long version (contains spoilers):
    This is not a He-Man show. This is a Teela show. For the majority of the season, you will not see He-Man. The story focuses on Teela and this other black chick character that is insinuated to be Teela's love interest (cursory search on Google seems to show it's a minor character from the old show, Ileena, that has been repurposed as a way to appease diversity extremists).

    So if you sat down in front of your TV to watch a story about He-Man, the character you loved from your childhood, you will be disappointed.

    With the above said, this is a decent show:

    - The animation is good, with character models (for the most part), vehicles and locations that you will recognize from the old show and the toys.

    - The voice acting is competent, with a cast of high level performers that mostly fit their roles perfectly.

    - The writing, despite the bait and switch maneuver, is not bad at all. You will get to know many of the characters that surrounded He-Man all these years in a much deeper way.

    In sum, even though I am certainly upset that this is a He-Man show without He-Man, all the low scores are unjustified... as are all the 9s and 10s.

    The way I see it, this can be between a 6 and a 7 depending on how much it irks you that they removed He-Man from the equation. Less than that, you are letting your disappointment get the better of you (you have good reason to be disappointed, though); more than that, you are just giving the show points for its current affairs messages (diversity, "girls get it done", etc.).

    If there is a second season, I would give it a chance, but at some point He-Man needs to come back. Let's remember that the original show was titled "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe".    … Expand

    I appreciate Netflix for playing smart by not focusing entirely on remake of original 80's He-Man series. The season one with final episode leaving at cliffhanger makes the series even more intresting. Indeed, great animation & art work. Can't wait for season 2.

This show could have worked had they been upfront of what the show really is about. Instead you are left heartbroken. I enjoyed the Cartoon Network version but this is not it. This is complete trash!

Apparently gender equality is not enough having He-Man and She-Ra now we need She-Man where her feelings, the drama she made not talking to her father or leaving a brilliant career because loyal people kept a secret and her sexual life (who cares honestly) are more important than the plot. I can understand if the show was about giving some dimension to other characters for part 1 so we get He-Man 100% for part two, but no... Obviously they wounded Adam so Teela has to be the main star.     It may take a little while to fully get into what Masters of the Universe: Revelation is doing if you are not already familiar with the franchise. But whether you're a longtime fan or just hungry for a unique blend of sci-fi and fantasy, this show offers an exhilarating adventure that justifies the era of the legacyquel, while proving itself a necessary and essential part of the Masters of the Universe mythos.

    Smith eschews his normally wordy dialogue style, but keeps the characters smart and real, which helps us want to follow all of them as they go on their journey. He also hews closely to the convoluted world that is Eternia, where there’s layer upon layer of intrigue and mysticism that needs to be restored or captured. The animation is an upgraded version of the ’80s Filmation style the original show had, but with just enough retro touches to keep the show connected to its predecessor.
