The rating is mainly for the animation wich holds quite high quality, but thats the best thing about it as the rest is either easy forgettable, woke propaganda or just a show about Teelas late teen angst, the show had lots of potential but feel short on most things as it seems it was more important to the creators to mess with the old fans then care for the characters or the show.

Too few highlights, too many lowlights.
Too many things done that are forced, or just plain wrong for this world.
The marketing was for a He-Man show and this is not that.

The REAL protagonist, Teela is turned into a narcissistic brat without any amount of common sense who is easily one of the most despicable protagonists I ever had the displeasure to see. The whole universe almost comes to an end, Adam sacrifices himself, and Teela spends her entire arc acting like her feelings matter more than the ENTIRETY of the universe. And her motivations are honestly, the weakest part of this show and comes off less like a strong, empowered woman and more someone throwing a hissy fit at a really inappropriate time.
The "strong female" characters scowling and being "angry" is a trite and overdone trope.
It excels in good animation and a compelling cast, and that's the only thing that can attract someone. The story is your standard cliché journey about saving the whole universe, but is lacking any high stakes, memorable moments or simple emotions. The story rushes forward and the viewer does not have the opportunity to get to know the individual characters, nor to care about their potential demise.
There are some action scenes, but they are solved very quickly and they lack any high stakes. I would expect much more from a show called Masters of the Universe.
I've given it a 3 becasue the animations and the voice acting and solid soundtrack is great but all icings on a cake when this show apparently exists purely just to troll fans. A Troll-vest show is the best way to describe this.

It's not great. The source material isn't exactly amazing, full of campy jokes, stilted dialogue and inconsistent characters, but it's weird to revive the series and keep all these negative traits while also cutting out everything that made the original enjoyable.

It's another sad bait and switch reboot. It acts like it's going to scratch that nostalgia itch than pisses in your face

I don't mind a Teela show, in fact if done right, I'd have loved it even if it was 100% focused on her, but in Revelation most things are working for the new agenda of men=bad, woman=good. In just one chapter they completely got rid of the male cast and the show is all about Teela, (and I wouldn't mind this if she was an unlikeable, bossy and self-centered Teela), her female partner, Sorceress and Evil-Lyn saving the day. I don't understand this trend and it really tells how little they think of women that, instead of writing an interesting, complex and capable females, the only way for many of them to highlight women is dumb down men, make them bad, or erase them completely. Not to mention that any resemblance of femininity in her design is also stripped and left behind in favor of a muscular dude in khakis. Again, "let's empower women making them look like a man". I don't want to put spoilers in here, but not only is insulting what they did to He-Man, they also completely destroyed Teela. So sad this happened to one of my most beloved series. I'm giving it 2 for the music and voice acting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As someone who grew up with He-man cartoons, and still enjoys them today, He-Man revelation was a HUGE disappointment. As a child, i looked up to He-man as a hero. In this series, He-man and Adam are portrayed as failures and a disgrace. Also, He-man himself only shows up in the first episode and a few times in flashbacks AFTER THEY KILL HIM OFF!!! THAT'S RIGHT!! We were told this story was about He-man, but its really all about Teela. Yep, its Teela's story, which is utter garbage. It's a classic case of bait and switch. Using He-man to hype up a story NOT about He-man. Save yourself the money and go re-watch the original cartoons if you want a REAL He-man story. This isn't it. THIS is nothing but a story with an agenda to prop up a strong woman, and put down a strong man. 100%. If that doesn't appeal to you, or you are expecting a traditional He-man story, this is a hard skip for sure. The only redeeming factor if the art and animation. It was good. The "shocking" cliff hanger at the end of the season feels stupid and ham-fisted.

It's only saving grace is the art and animation. Vivid and bright, the effects of magic and the colorful cast of heroes and rogues are at times arresting and always a joy to watch. It's just a shame that the story they're acting out for the audience is such a poor, boring one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MOTU Viewer: Hey, so why would Teela decide to abandon her post, her dream job, her army, her kingdom, two grieving parents, and disown her family just because she didn't know Adam was He-Man? Like, it's not a great place to be, but loads of ppl didn't know he was He-Man. Even his own dad. And the ones who did know, knew because the Sorceress told them back in the day, not Adam, and only so Adam would have guides and support while he bore the burden of being He-Man and keeping the secrets of Grayskull and the sword of power safe. All this seems like a bit of a wild reaction if I'm honest, and completely out of character for Teela. Why is she such an emotionally resentful and self-centred person now?
Show: Don't know. But look how strong and female she is. And gay.
Viewer: Yeah, about that, how come you imply she's gay now, but do nothing with it in terms of the narrative or in developing her character. This kinda reminds me of Loki's throwaway bi-sexuality. You do less here than shows who first did this sort of thing more than a decade ago, like Korra and Xena. But these days, isn't this just cynical and lazy queerbaiting?
Show: Nope. It's (reads from cue card) diverse and inclusive.
Viewer: Hey, so this Andra girl is smart (except when she doesn't know anything about a massive war that happened a handful of years ago for some reason), brave, and pretty self-less. She seems to want to be a hero and help Eternia. This motivation would appear to put her wants and needs at complete odds with Teela's, who only cares about money and not being a hero. Why at no point during the series does that ever become a point of conflict as more and more people die and the mission becomes more dangerous?
    Show: Don't know.
Viewer: Hey, so how did Teela manage to summon magical power she had no idea she possessed when fighting not-Skeletor in hell? What did she do to subdue him in his own house, and nab the sword? It seemed to be more than turning his game against him, and something awakened in her akin to the Sorceress' power. How did any of that work? Why did it seem so easy and convenient? Even the Sorceress can't do magic like that quite so easily. What gives?
Show: Don't know. But she's his worst nightmare now!
Viewer: (sighs...) she certainly is. So, if she's doing magic now, and she hates magic, shouldn't she have less of a gung-ho reaction to it? Shouldn't she be slightly disturbed at what this means? And why doesn't she, you know, just do it again and own not-Skeletor instead of letting Orko **** die and blaming Evil-Lyn for it?
    Show:
Viewer: Hey, so why does Teela mourn the death of Roboto more than Adam? In fact, if he has all of Duncan's memories, wouldn't he also have known Adam was He-Man? Is she not pissed off at him as well?
Show: Because she's a complex and emotional creature, misogynist. And as for the Roboto knowing everything Duncan knows... yea, I guess Teela kinda forgot about that.
Viewer: Hey, so does Teela really not speak to her dad, Orko, Cringer, or Roboto after leaving the palace until the events of episode 3? She has no idea how sick Orko was or how they were doing? But wouldn't she have wanted answers about Adam and the secret once she calmed down and got herself together? Wouldn't she want to reconsider all her rash decisions before this point and reach out to her father to understand the truth that was hidden from her? Did she really just cut them all out of her life because they told her a lie? Like, completely and forever cut them out? Is Teela a psychopath? A narcissist?
Show: No, she's a strong woman now, and to be a strong woman, you simply need to be just like a man, but without the reason or accountability. And you need muscles.
    Viewer: About the muscles...
Show: She's a warrior, you big chauvinist. Girl warriors have muscles.
Viewer: Okay... then why does Evil-Lyn have huge muscles? She's not a physical warrior. She's a mage who needs hired guns to do full-on fighting for her.
    Show: Err...
Viewer: While we're at it, if all the magic's gone from Eternia except for wee scraps here and there, how is Evil-Lyn initially doing that disguise spell? And why is she being presented as some sort of spurned yet redeemable anti-hero rather than Skeletor's co-conspirator?
Show: Now you listen to us, boy. All women are inherently good. All men are liars, heretics, cheats, bad fathers, skeleton monsters, or DEAD. Keep up. You're just angry because you think we ruined He-Man.
Viewer: You didn't ruin him. How could you? He's not in it. You didn't ruin Skeletor either. Because he's also not in it - and it's probably for the best because I don't trust you to write for that supreme, meme machine, sassy **** You ruined Teela. You kinda ruined Man At Arms. The only one you didn't ruin was Orko and that's because you **** killed him instead.

And the worst part about it is you took a He-Man show, killed off He-Man, and made it all about female empowerment. No, I am not against it, but when it takes a character so beloved and kills him off for the sake of female and other political agendas being shoved down my throat, it starts to get annoying and I'm sick of it. It had potential, with an old cartoon being revived, but not only was executed poorly but was genuinely executed as a concept of an old character.

The only reason why I am giving it 2 score is because the animation and the art style, the animators have done a fantastic job and they are the only ones that should be congratulated, the rest of the crew, specially the story writers, NO!

The problem is not the fact that Teela is the main character, I would say that is even the cool thing about it, but the problem is how she is portrayed! It was advertised as continuation of the 80s show, but it isn't, many of the characters, specially Teela, are acting totally out of character! The story progression is weak, some of the things that happen make no sense, not to mention things that are changed for no reason, and no I don't only mean the race swapping of some characters, I mean entire landscapes totally changed for no reason!

Kevin Smith didn't lie about one thing, he indeed was not and obviously still isn't a fan of MOTU, and that is well shown in this show.

The series should be called the adventures of Teela, He-Man does nothing but hinder and die, in addition the series falls into a forced and absurd inclusion, artificially changing the race to characters like King Grayskull, it would be better to create new characters from diverse races and not fall into that artificial inclusion. I would not show that to my kids, becourse the message (of season 1 at least) is "the world is messed up and broken and don't try to fix it becourse you will mess it up even more and get people killed in the process". The message for fans of He-Man is basicly "your childhood hero is sh** and he deserves to die, twice". so that only leaves people who hated He-Man, but i don't think there are enough of those to merit a whole TV-Show.

There are some positives like the realy good animation style and i like most of the voiceacting.

The voices are recognizable actors/actresses. Thing is it's like they had a "list" of social agenda items that needed to be injected into the story. What's left isn't really a cohesive show or something even mildly enjoyable. I think I smiled briefly once or twice in only the first episode. Shaking my head the rest of the time. This really makes me wish show runners would work *purely on the enjoyment aspect of their craft rather than a scoreboard on how many points that can be achieved arbitrarily inserting their take on today's society. Also my humble suggestion - at all costs try to preserve at least the essence of the original show. In this case this show is not aimed at anyone from the original audience. All the woke tropes are present - all men are bad or weak, women are strong and great at everything. Characters have completely different personalities relative to the original show; Teela who is the focus of the series is a whiny, entitled, smug feminist complete with shaved haircut.

At this point, we need to just give up on these people - Hollywood is compromised and has been for a long, long time. They don't want to tell good stories, they want to push woke dogma down our throats using whatever propaganda vehicles they can get their hands on.

I give it one point for the quality of the animation. The rest is trash. Not worth your time, or the cost of a Netflix subscription.

Sadly, there are almost no redeeming qualities in this dumpster fire. Even Skeletor is almost nowhere to be found. Teela, who is now the main character, is whiny and totally unlikable. All the MOTU characers are reduced to cameos or Teela sidekicks. The feminist tilt to the storytelling is present throughout. There really is almost nothing to like here.

The trailers were guilty of bait-and-switch, Kevin Smith blantantly lied (and burned up what little credibilty he had left, hope it was worth the paycheck), and this is not the MOTU any kind of fan wants to see.

Whoever came up with the idea of taking MOTU, with one of the more masculine heroes, and reducing the show to a woke a feminist mouthpeice, I hope they rot in hell.

It had great art, a really great rock soundtrack. It had limited stock animations and limited stock sounds but they were all good and evocative.

This show was marketed at old-school fans. The only thing better than the original is the animation, but the things being animated are worse. The new characters are less attractive, and the soundtrack, both effects and music is bland.

In the first episode a number of things happen, Teela becomes the lead character. He-man is only in flashbacks thereafter except Prince Adam is in the 5th episode. Unfortunately, this is not the beautiful, capable Teela of the 1980s. This is a nasty, petty, sulky, narcissistic, physically and morally unattractive version of Teela who acts like a spoiled teenager even when the world is in danger.

Without spoilers, this is a story that tries so hard to be woke, but cannot even accomplish that. The patronising minority characters are patronising caricatures.

Beloved major characters are killed, and the ones who survive are twisted until they are contemptible.

This is not something that will appeal to fans of the original series. It is not entirely clear who else it would appeal to. 1 point for the animation, and nothing for anything else.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Horrible. First off, the series does not develop any of the backstory about any of the characters in the series, but rather throws you face-first into He-Man suddenly dying in the first episode. So, new viewers cannot figure out who any of the characters are or why they are important, but rather expects the viewers to ALREADY know the backstory about He-Man. Second, it was apparently obvious from the get-go that this series was animated by the same studio that animated he Castlevania series on Netflix; there is NO differentiation in drawing styles or animation, and if one did not know any better, they could assume this was some sort of sequel to the Castlevania series. Heck, even the whip-like animations were complete copy/pasted of example animations from Castlevania! This just REEKS of laziness!

Also, for those expecting this series to have a tie-in with the She-Ra series on Netflix ... it isn't going to! It's clear from the start that besides one reference to the Horde (referenced in a way that makes it seem like a different group than the Horde from She-Ra), this series has absolutely no connections to She-Ra, which is entirely non-canon.

I don't know what audience this series is geared towards, and I'll probably never know I HOPE there is NO season 2. As someone who has watched the entire series of both She-Ra and Castlevania on Netflix, this series looks like some sort of pathetic cash grab by whoever took part in its creation and does not deserve a season 2. This series should disappear as some sort of He-Man non-canon fan series, and should be rebooted IMMEDIATELY by the production teams that took part in developing the She-Ra series on Netflix. If the latter doesn't happen, here's hoping this He-Man series gets canceled and disappears into obscurity so fans can pretend this series never existed.

First off you will NEVER encounter a better voice cast for anything related to He Man. They even got Henry Rollins to be a very calm and persuasive individual for crying out loud. All of the voice work is top notch.

The writing isnt terrible. The story is more or less decent. We have all sat through worse. Some characters were really well done in fact. Like Orko surprisingly.

Then the bad creeps in and takes over.

First off, Even if they are breaking a season into 2 segments, 5 episodes is pretty light.

Also the animation looks OK. Definitely not great. It looks like an anime from 2010 give or take.

Then there is the elephant in the room. Yes, the show has a Teela problem. That is why it was smart to not have He-Man in the title. Masters of the Universe was the logical way of getting around what they knew they were doing.

It drips with SJW influence from beginning to end. Do they craft a good story despite that? More or less. That said you cannot escape it because you get reminders of it in every episode. Even then it still fails the whole Bechtal test given the gaping absence built into the plot that effectively becomes a Magguffin.

Its clearly bending over backwards to take something viewed as embodiment of masculinity and does its best to curb stomp it and disregard the target demographic, the lore of the story or anything else relevant about it.

Conclusion: The voice cast and more dark nature of this story goes exceedingly far to make up for all that is wrong with it. I still have to deduct 5 points just for the SJW agenda being pushed. Another point for the behind the curve anime. Leaving it at a 4. Had it not been for that agenda which is a completely avoidable problem, this would have been between a 9-10 for me.

So hope it was worth it alienating the target demographic for this. Whos to say we will even see the second half given how terrible the reviews have been. I feel my grade is quite forgiving for just how bad it actually is.

Sadly, you brought this on yourself.

EDIT: After seeing the second half of Season 1 I had to come back and update this review.

    It got SOOO much worse.

While the first half had at least a glimmer of potential, the second half ruins it all. The overall production is still good but the writing is a literal abomination. It misses the point, It actively spits in the face of the franchise, and leaves a stain on the franchise that will take quite a lot of effort to undo.

There is no way Smith actually had any involvement with this because this is literally the most misandrist garbage ever animated.

There COULD have been room to elevate women in this franchise, this was NOT the way to do it because it effectively became fem centric sexist in the process.

Originally scored for the first half a 4. Reducing that down to a 1 because it amplifies everything wrong with the first half.

Still have to give some score for the quality of animation and the voice cast which was top notch. The writing is as stated before an absolute abomination and someone needs to be held accountable for this.

All elements are of epic proportions in this Conan-Star Wars hybrid world of Masters of the Universe, based on the best-selling line of children’s toys. Epitome of Good takes on Epitome of Evil for nothing less than the future of the Universe, and the result is a colossal bore.

Kevin Smith's He-Man is an impressive physical specimen, the ultimate warrior epitomizing all that is good and defending the honor of inhabitants of the planet Eternia. Sadly he is side-lined early along with most other major characters so that we can focus on heroine and former friend Teela. On the dark side is the hideous Skeletor (voiced by Mark Hamil no less). He too is absent for the bulk of these five episodes after he defeats the Sorceress of Greyskull Castle and destroys it in the opening episode, sucking all the magic out of Eternia, and the show as well. The next four episodes aren't interested in He-Man and Skeletor and tell an altogether different story.

Turns out the battle to control the future of universal power took its toll on one Eternian more than any other, Teela--star of the original cartoon who appeared fighting alongside with He-Man in every episode. Smith's Teela was never told He-Man's alter-ego was her friend Prince Adam and when she finds out in the first episode she gives up on her friends, the Palace life, her new title as Man (Mistress?)-At-Arms, and sets off to find herself and leave the lies behind.

We then catch up with Teela and her sole friend (or is there more to this relationship? Smith is too afraid to say despite saying himself that this material is written for adults) after a long time jump. Eternia is in bad shape as magic is drying up after the destruction of Castle Greyskull. Teela seems content to spend the rest of her life away from everything Masters of the Universe, until she's asked by a mysterious old woman to retrieve a long lost talisman and off we go on a new adventure.

An adventure with no strong male characters, terrible dialogue, horrendous plotting and some very bad vocal performances from a cast that has done better. Sarah Michelle Geller of "Buffy" fame falters in particular as Teela, turning the iconic and kind heroine into a grim miser who seemingly hates everyone in her past. The Slayer's performance as Teela is grating.

Masters of the Universe, like G.I. Joe, Marvel and DC Comics has a surprisingly deep roster of colorful characters beloved by many. Dumping on all of them and then dumping them aside for "The Teela Show" could have worked, but, not with these scripts and this cast. Just because something can be done though, doesn't mean it should. Netflix's "Masters of the Universe: Revelation" is horrible missed opportunity. Why was everything interesting thrown aside?

The animation by Powerhouse Studious is fine, although nothing to write home to Bob K. or Bill Clampett about. Some of the character models are excellent and some are an excellent example in what not to do.

If you've never checked out He-Man and the Masters of the Universe just about any other iteration would serve you better. If you're a fan of the old show, avoid this at all costs.

Animation is OK but for Pete's sake there is little entertainment to be found. If you like woketainment then this show is right up your alley.

Damnation! I'm SO disappointed with SUCH LITTLE screen time of my beloved, favourite childhood characters! I DON'T need this mess! Not only that, but I need HE-MAN, not pathetic sidekicks instead of the coolest BAMF! I'm literally devastated with Kevin Smith's lies.

The only redeeming quality is the artstyle and voiceacting.
Teela acts like an arrogant spoiled brat with leaps of logic that makes absolutely zero sense and we're supposed to think this is the next new superhero? How about no!

I am just sick of this attitude that in order to have strong female characters be the focus of the show you have to make all other characters useless. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe that Kevin Smith has specially collected all the most terrible cliches of the last ten years in one cartoon to show how much he and similar media personalities are c*****d and subordinate to the modern agenda. A stupid drain and the murder of the original hero at the very beginning, as in "Dark Fates". Tincreasing the level of stupidity of the universe and lore for the sake of the agenda, as in the new "Star Wars". Rethinking the characters of other characters in accordance with the modern agenda, as in the same Dark Fate. Adding LGBT and poking them right in the face is just like in Princess Shi-Ra, which happens in the same universe as He-man. Well, the deception of fans, in order to play on nostalgia, as in all such projects. And if Cameron, perhaps, really took off Dark Fate, so that they would already left him alone, and that the viewer would never see another ignoramus rape the Terminator in his life, then fat Kevin is really sure that his "joke" was really cool. Ahahahaha. Damn, when will it end? Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It`s starts nice, you see a cool animation, He-Man is there, Skeletor doing Skeletor things.... You think: "Well it`s not as bad as people is talking about."

Well don`t be mislead by the 1st 20 minutes of this show, after He-Man sacrifices himself everything goes down the hill. Teela represents everything that is wrong with female leads these days, she is just a "boy wanna be" with a fancy hair cut, that hates everyone. The second episode is so bad that I skipped.
The last episode you think, yeah, I survived this pile of garbage, I will get something good... He-Man is back... They manage to destroy everything again.
In the end people like me, and many others, were just used, the same way we have been used by the new Start Wars trilogy.
If you are not as stupid as I am, don`t loose your time watching this garbage, don`t buy any merch and go on with your life, as if this show never existed.
Life is too precious to be wasted with this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You've heard enough about woke pandering and blatant lying from PR and personally Kevin Smith, so I want to say another thing. This show is just BAD. Animation is mediocre and not even close to Castlevania levels. But the writing by Smith is just pathetic. The grand revelation from the first episode is that Castle Grayskull is not a center of magic, but a hologram skin, that has... just a differently designed castle with another name and the same role. That is a level of epic "revelations" here, people. And the reaction "YOU ALL LIARS!" from Teela after hearing about Adam's secret... that is the cliche that all the worst CW shows base all their drama upon constantly. Not surprising from a fan of CW shows, but painfully unoriginal and cringe non the less.

I'll always love Dogma, but it's been quite a while since Kevin did anything worthwhile as aa writer. And that show is as bad as all his newest works. Only here he also managed to sell out his fans.

It may take a little while to fully get into what Masters of the Universe: Revelation is doing if you are not already familiar with the franchise. But whether you're a longtime fan or just hungry for a unique blend of sci-fi and fantasy, this show offers an exhilarating adventure that justifies the era of the legacyquel, while proving itself a necessary and essential part of the Masters of the Universe mythos.

Smith eschews his normally wordy dialogue style, but keeps the characters smart and real, which helps us want to follow all of them as they go on their journey. He also hews closely to the convoluted world that is Eternia, where there’s layer upon layer of intrigue and mysticism that needs to be restored or captured. The animation is an upgraded version of the ’80s Filmation style the original show had, but with just enough retro touches to keep the show connected to its predecessor.
