The critics have dropped the ball on this show in a major way. Many complain that it's long and talkative (failing to recognize the surprisingly in-depth character presentation and the surprisingly intelligent writing), some complain there's not enough action, which frankly, is not what Netflix's take on Punisher is about for the most part.

As a Punisher fan, this is the best representation of the comic hero (especially the MAX imprint) on screen to date by far, and the critics must be insane. Watch it. It's very, very good.

Critics are insane.. It's the best representation of Frank Castle that has ever been done in film media. Like one critic actually complained that Franks only superhero power is rage. It's like a cook giving his feedback on an finely tuned engine. If your a marvel fan or a fan of the punisher Jon Berthanol will not let you down. "It's just me you and the truth now"

Amazing show. Best Marvel-Netflix show. This show is for grownups not little boys and girls who pretend to be adults. Critics are crazy or just sad little snowflakes who never served our country. Best show in a long time. I'm on the sixth episode now truly enjoying it somewhat reminds me of Homeland and Person of interest (which is a good thing). John is truly amazing as a Punisher.

In short, the series was made for fans of the punisher, not made for the politically correct critics of the left. is bloody, violent and faithful to comics, the weak point is that some characters are weak (or actors).

A great interpretation of a really complex character. A great setting and I really love the pace of the series. Love how it deals with difficult topics. Hopefully if it goes to Disney they will keep the tone and intent.

Critics are far too hard on this series. Yes it does take a couple of episode to get into and yes, the sheer of violence sometimes is to the point of ridiculous, but overall it is a strong show with a strong message of how war can affect an individual. My one complaint is Marvel TV tends to slow build a characters back story so much that sometimes the pay off isn't as good as it could be.

It is my second favorite Netflix Marvel series, following closely behind Jessica Jones.

The series is unique with Punisher and Jessica Jones (and to a lesser extent Luke Cage)as they all were stories that don't need to even address they are about superheroes. They would stand up alone as stories without powers (much like this year's Logan).

Having grown up with Vietnam Vets (who were also outlaw MC members) I saw a lot of PTSD upfront and personal. There were nights of explosive violence, resulting in police, jail and hospital emergency rooms.

Other times I saw them drink themselves stupid, cry and break down.

Mostly I just saw them bury it all inside of themselves, causing them to lose jobs, significant others, and get in trouble with the police. They couldn't fit back into society, and society didn't want them.

That connection with the Punisher is what felt real for me. More so then a blind lawyer who fought criminals or much worse some punk rich douchebag filled with so much privilege that he whined about everything. Sure there was gratuitous violence, slow parts, all that. However, the story of a man trying to figure out how to get through after the things he has done was heart stopping for me.

Pros: Great acting, directing, blah blah blah. Most importantly something I could connect with from my life.

Cons: It did get a bit slow and bloated in the middle.

Sign me up for Season 2.

This show was magnificent. It has a lot in common with First Blood (where John Rambo's character was introduced) in that it's not just a violent splatterfest of action, but takes time to go into the wounded character of men returning from war and the bonds they formed while deployed. It is certainly violent, and sometimes it's hard to watch as violence should always be. The only complaintThis show was magnificent. Are the critics high or stupid, it's hard to tell at this point. The Uproxx reviewer even ADMITTED that they did not even finish the series. How is that even a valid review? Paid critics are cretins, you can only trust the user review these days.

And this user loved it. It was super brutal, with a great plot and terrific acting. It's the best Marvel series and a tremendous load of fun.

This amazing Show took me by surprise and oh boy it was a big one.
This has to be one of my favorite tv shows of all time, up with Spartacus, GoT, Vikings, Breaking Bad. Really well done, amazing story, phenomenal characters, and interesting twists and turns.
It had everything for me: Action, Drama, Some Romance, Story-Driven characters, well-placed comedy and really good villains.

    A must see.
The show has portrayed the Punisher in remarkably dark colors.
There is plenty of violence, but kind of unavoidable violence if you are to be true to the plot.
This series captured me full attention by surprise since I did not expect so much punch in a time when everything is highly damaged by political correctness.

Altough it does´nt have the dinamics of Daredevil of The defenders, it´s thankful to see in the 13 chapters the personality that lacks the previous screenplays (1989, 2004, 2008). One more think you can appreciate is the final act with no spoilers or clues for next season.

The show is very deep on character development and the story drives and enhances this, the depth and quality of the production is on a level no other marvel tv series have gained, at least in my opinion.

All too often it’s a plodding slog. Bernthal’s performance somehow finds energy in Frank’s pain. ... Lightfoot’s breadth of storytelling is gratifying--he wants to do more than give the cultural landscape another killing machine to idolize. It makes The Punisher less uncomfortable to watch than it could be amid so many outbreaks of extreme gun violence. But it isn’t an easy ride.

The show is well-written and Jon Bernthal ("The Walking Dead") is fantastic as Castle, the Afghanistan war veteran turned vigilante. ... But the story itself isn't dynamic enough to punch through all the cultural baggage this show is unfairly (or as some believe, justifiably) saddled with. It doesn't help that the burly character's superpower isn't a superpower at all. It's old-fashioned rage, coupled with special ops training.

Better too rich than too thin, to be sure, but “The Punisher” casts its net so wide that almost none of these stories get a fair shake. When they do, it’s usually the acting that closes the gap — Woll and Bernthal are so good together that it almost doesn’t matter that their scenes get snapped out quickly — but it’s hard to escape the feeling that, in giving us all that story, “The Punisher” doesn’t have much time for substance. It’s simultaneously too much and not enough.
