Kate Winslet is perfectly believable as a small town detective, so why do they have to have such weak male characters? Is it because the writers feel she needed the weak male characters to make her look more capable, thus suggesting without them she wouldn't be thought of as believable detective.

It's very odd that so many critics are so highly impressed with Winslet's performance. It is a typical high quality acting rendition/interpretation that I would expect based on her past efforts. Also, there seems to be a lot of over-the-top impressions of her Philadelphia accent for some strange reason. Is it because the location is not, New York, Los Angeles or Chicago?

Regardless, Mare of Easttown is a much better than average police-detective-murder-mystery plot. I think most people will very much enjoy watching it.

The first episode was good at presenting us with the main players of this story. Getting some 'True Detective' vibes —without the dark stuff—. Kate Winslet and Jean Smart are superb Definitely, I'll be watching.

Usually in crime dramas like this one, the twists and turns that provide the drama and surprises come at the expense of believability. So far (I still haven't seen the final episode) this one doesn't. All the characters feel like very realUsually in crime dramas like this one, the twists and turns that provide the drama and surprises come at the expense of believability. So far (I still haven't seen the final episode) this one doesn't. All the characters feel like very real people, with real flaws and real challenges in their life. The few times I thought "Oh, come ON!", there ended up being a credible explanation for whatever seemed out of character. The fantastic writing is combined with stellar acting, as well as excellent direction & cinematography to make a tense, exciting, and thoroughly enjoyable show. Expand

But still, this is an HBO product and this is not the main thing here. Mare of Easttown is a great finished story with a good cast. The main thing is not to stop after watching the first series, because the action in it almost does not develop in any way. Definitely one of the best TV shows of 2021. And just one of Kate Winslet's best roles over the past few years Expand

Nobody does shows like them. Especially miniseries.

Mare of Eastown is another home run for the company, and just in this half of the year, it rises as one of the best television works of this 2021.
I can predict that it will be in a lot of the top 10's by the end of the year.

Kate Winslet has earned an Emmy nomination.

I love these stories. A killing, the suspects, the detective, and the mystery. And this was a very entertaining one, and also I got it right.

If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
All seven episodes are available now.

If Mare of Easttown does not move you inside...go and seek help. Its brilliant, Kate Winslet is outstanding... the plot pure masterpiece. HBO has done it again. If you love series this is a must see & probably the best of 2021.

Solid through episode 6 but the last episode is a disaster. The multiple twists piled on were poorly executed. Does anyone in town believe in lawyers?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A rare gem in the 'mystery crime' genre in that it doesn't take you on a wondrous journey and then end up dumping you in the middle of nowhere. Countless times I have watched such dramas and all the good work in the early episodes is completely negated by a totally unbelievable ending - this is certainly not the case with Mare as the ending is every bit as good as what preceded it. On the acting front I think that this is Winslet at her best supported by an excellent cast - Jean Smart being the pick of a very good bunch. Oh if they ever have an Emmy category for best portrayal of someone who is dying to laugh out loud but can't because it would be totally inappropriate then KW would win it hands down (watch episode 4 and you'll know exactly what I mean). Jest to warty polecenia serial do oglądnięcia. Usiadłem i ciurkiem 7 odcinków oglądałem. Scenariusz jest wciągający, a gra aktorska Kate również jest na wysokim poziomie.

It is overly-convoluted (although extremely intriguing), but Kate Winslet's career-best performance is what's the best point of the show is.
