This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll be generous and give the show a 2 because I feel just horrible for the actors. This is the most sexist show I've ever seen. It opens on a man looking at women he's passing on the street and judging whether or not he would sleep with them: [actual lines: "yes... yes...no!... yes (but then lady walks out from behind a mailbox revealing a pregnant belly)-- maybe...(closeup on her boobs)--yes!"]. Cut to- girl walking down street, judging which purses she would buy. REALLY, ABC??? This is 2014, for the love of God. We see the love story from Dana's POV because Peter isn't interested from the beginning. This poor girl only gets a date because someone begs this guy. He mocks her on the date and she cries (because chicks cry, #amiright?LOL). The friends make him apologize with flowers and Dana thinks, "flowers aren't gonna work on me--- oh, LILIES!" (because girls are powerless when it comes to their favorite flower, I guess). Blah blah blah, you know how this goes. She gives him a third chance and he's all of a sudden sensitive and amazing. And Peter's thoughts condescend, "this could work out." And I'm like, "Nope." Please, ABC, cancel this show and give these actors a better opportunity. Expand

It's a cute show, with likeable, easy to relate to characters. The lead characters, and their antics are a little exaggerated sometimes, but it's a sitcom. Caricatures are part of the genre.

Overall, it's one of the best sitcoms I've seen in a while.

HONESTLY! I was attracted by the name manhattan love story.I was expecting it to fill the empty whole that GOSSIP GIRL has left in my hear, soul & life ever since it has gone off.Did 'manhattan lovestory' manage to do that? Oh well...oh well...YES it did!! I wudnt say it's as good as gossip girl, but it has got something. It is pretty good for it's length.I dont like 20 mins or so runtime,IHONESTLY! Oh well...oh well...YES it did!! I wudnt say it's as good as gossip girl, but it has got something. It is pretty good for it's length.I dont like 20 mins or so runtime,I prefer longer maybe 40. But this show was funny,it was the first episode and yes there needs to be a few changes and there is room for improvement.I played about 4 movies and 3 other tv shows today and after not being satisfied by any I ended up finding out about manhattan lovestory therefore I decided to watch it and oh man am I glad I did. It is that kind of show that get's better & better with each episode I can just feel it.I dont know the name of the actors as I pretty much saw them for the first time, maybe iv seen the girl somewhere before but Im pretty sure she's no blake lively.but she is definitely cute and the guy is pretty handsome I must say. I am going to wait for the next episode and I will be counting days. It has got 10 things that GOSSIP GIRL had:-
1-manhattan. 2-a pretty blonde in the lead. 3- cute guy. 4-hot handbags. 5-cute dresses. 6-Romance. 7-Friendships. 8-Cute little stupid things. 9-I wanna see more skin like I did in the beginning of GG. 10-Me as a fan. So if you are wondering what to watch after gossip girl, then this is the show for you. I swear it's going to be a hit.Just wait & watch!

It's a good show. The cast is good the storyline is good. What i like about this show, that it shows from both lead characters' perspectives, it's cute (although sometimes it can be cheesy and awkward). However, i find that romantic sitcom with one male lead and one female lead doesn't really work for a long run.

Unlike its lead-in comedy Selfie on ABC, I have many expectations about this pilot. While its concept will not change the romantic sitcom genre, it is clever to see both sides of the love story in this show using both of the protagonists’ inner thoughts on the voice over and it’s quite promising.

But man, this pilot is quite a dud. I would say this is the worst pilot I have seen this
Unlike its lead-in comedy Selfie on ABC, I have many expectations about this pilot. While its concept will not change the romantic sitcom genre, it is clever to see both sides of the love story in this show using both of the protagonists’ inner thoughts on the voice over and it’s quite promising.

But man, this pilot is quite a dud. I would say this is the worst pilot I have seen this fall television season.

My first problem with this pilot is that instead of seeing the love story on both sides, we get to see only Dana’s side of the love story. Peter’s side of the love story is nowhere to be found in this pilot.

My second problem with this pilot is that the pace of the plot seems rushed and confusing. I pray that the pilot episode I have seen is not the original version because if it is, then damn, it’s the writer’s fault for rushing the pace of the plot which makes this pilot a confusing one to watch.

My third problem with this pilot is the lack of chemistry between the protagonists Dana and Peter. There is this term called “opposites attract” and yes, it’s possible. But for this pilot, that term does not work here. Again, it might be attributed from the rushed pace of the pilot. This could be a fatal mistake of this show.

My last problem with this pilot is the humor. It’s god damn awful and not funny. It seems way too forced. The humor had its moments but compared to Selfie, the latter seems more funnier because at least it makes sense.

However, I do like Analeigh Tipton’s performance as Dana. She is so beautiful and she played her character well. Dana is also very likable and cute which gives life to this show in my opinion.

As for Jake McDorman’s performance as Peter, he is not the best actor but he played his role well enough for me to believe he is not some actor playing a character. As for Peter himself, I am quite mixed. His honesty and his sense of realism is refreshing for a romantic sitcom. I would have agreed with him if he didn’t come out as an **** during the pilot. The reasoning for this is that we only see Julie’s side of the story and not Peter’s side of the story so I expect episodes where both Julie and Peter had their fair share of screen time (which was the reason why I watch this show) or where Peter has his own episode. I will give Peter some more time if I would like him or not.

The most surprising thing about this pilot is that the show tackles about people who have dreams about New York City, like it’s a city haven but it’s not. It acknowledges that New York City is a not a nice place to stay with many rude people and its dirty environment without bashing on the city too much.

Overall, I will give this show time to be better and deliver its supposed promise. Dana is the highlight of this show so I am also tuning in because of her. But if the show does not improve over time, then I guess Dana’s charm is in vain.

1/5★ There are plenty of shows about smug white people and their romantic trials and tribulations. Manhattan Love Story is boring, the characters are unlikable and the voice over gimmick gets old fast. Why waste time on it when we have Happy Endings reruns?

Manhattan Love Story (ABC) makes the male lead feel almost irrelevant. He's not essential to the fantasy.

The lead characters for whom we're supposed to root in Manhattan Love Story feel as slapped together as people stranded at a speed-dating event.

It’s sexist and stupid and shows no signs of potential, other than becoming more sexist, stupid and annoying as the weeks roll by.
