Their seemingly perfect love plays out in a high-tech virtual-reality bubble. Her attempt to escape is thwarted by the brain implant that allows him to monitor her actions, vision and emotions. While some of the sci-fi elements offer cool concepts, the show quickly turns into a romance drama without much special. Ray Romano adds some personality as her father with his sex doll girlfriend. Only 3 episodes have dropped, but the high-concept promise will need some interesting developments to help this rise above its current uneven launch. Expand

Some interesting plot ideas in a genre mash with sci fi 'chip in the brain' tech shenanigans. The almost comic panel comedy beats throughout change the pacing and feel into something that often borders on parody. It's well produced with a talented cast and decent soundtrack but sadly never quite succeeds in finding a distinct tone. Watchable but scrappy. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. No denying I really enjoyed this. There's a lot to like here, but one of the things that bothers me throughout is Hazel. The lead characters main issue is a lack of agency, but instead it feels like she is the only one with agency and with problems. Her perfect husband and his perfect Hub are just not good enough. Her loser dad, while also suffering the loss of the mom is not good enough (aged with heartfelt satire by Ray Romano who is excellent as her synthetic partner loving dad). Her dear friend isn't good enough. And I'm not blaming the actress, but Hazel is kind of a **** I think she's supposed to be, armkring herself with sarcasm and a quick wit, but in the end, she is the only one with agency here. She chose to marry a tech billionaire who is obviously on the spectrum (no sympathy from her whatsoever). She is comicit in the very project that ends up putting the chip she so desperately wants out in her head (granted it was put in without her knowledge; no denying that).

I remember Miliotti from both Black Mirror (where she played a similar role) and Palm Springs, but did not notice that this was her shtick it seems. It worked best in contrast to Sanbergs goofy charm in that show. There's no foil like him here though, and it shows.

She comes off as a woman who has never really been oppressed but feels she needs to represent against an imaginary patriarchy. However, she still wants a man??

Bangles is the real GOAT in this. I'd love a spinoff of her adventures. "No cheek, just hole."

Doesn't seem willing to go far enough in any one direction to actually wring a strong story out of its straight from the headlines-adjacent setup.

Lives and dies on on the charm of Milioti (and, to a lesser extent, Romano). Still, worth a watch, especially as you can knock the whole season over in an evening.
