Not funny with stale material and very predictable jokes. That about sums it up.

I didn't find it funny on SNL, so it's a no for me. In fact, outside of a few cameos, I don't find Will Forte very funny. He's great when he shows up as a secondary character in a skit or on someone else's show, but I don't think he's solid enough to carry a show by himself. Take Last Man on Earth for example. I guess that could be funny, but more often than not, it was just plain annoying. Expand

It's Will Forte being Will Forte. He can play only one way. I liked it for a bit in The Last Man on Earth, but it's growing stale now.

Silly yet entertaining with a surprising high production value to it. Worth a watch if you dont mind switching off for some cheap jokes.

Didn't expect much but man this is funny.. just like the movie.. Glad they kept it over the top dumb and easy to watch. This kind of humor is what the world needs right now.

Looks great, but where are Forte and Wiig? I just forced myself to finish episode 5. Nice helicopters, I guess? Wiig is allowed barely a pair of 30-second gags (they are wonderful, classic Wiig, both her opening number and her "ad libbed" speech a few episodes later). However, the whole thing feels like it's resting just a bit heavy on the humor inherent in many of the situations. Too muchLooks great, but where are Forte and Wiig? If I were a professional critic or comic, I might take the time to go back, rewatch this plodding excuse for a talkie, come up with a few more devastating turns of phrase, and list the dozens of missed opportunities for this film's all-star cast to have landed any number of the kinds of quips we all know and love them for. Please do better next season. I want to hear "30 seconds, MacGruber!" at least twice in every episode, not once in five. I want about a thousand times more expert engineering and Tandying by Forte. And maybe pick up the pace in the editing room. Do I make myself perfectly clear? I love you all very much. (Last Man on Earth should have gotten another twenty seasons, change my mind.) Expand

A fun binge for fans of Forte and/or "whoever smelt it dealt it" jokes. [Feb 2022, p.101]

Goofy dresses, goofy names, goofy voices, or that trusty tape deck, “MacGruber” has everything you could want from a comedy homecoming nearly a dozen years in the making.

MacGruber is all about making the most with very little, and the MacGruber series certainly knows how to recycle what has worked in the past effectively and with hilarious results.
