Chris Lilley hit his peak with Summer Heights High, which was brilliant and a high water mark for Australian Comedy. Unfortunately he tried repeatedly to recreate the magic of that show to diminishing (and frankly embarrassing) returns, with the Jonah and J'aime spinoffs.

Now he is basically admitting he has totally run out of fresh ideas by rehashing the concept of his 2005 show 'We can be heroes'. At this stage he is a bad Eddie Murphy wannabe, who thinks that dressing up in different costumes and doing funny voices is comedy. WCBH was average. This is a bad knock off of average. Honestly could not make it through the first episode it was that horrendous.

Who in their right mind decided this should be a 10 ep, 40 minute show??? If you can make sit through 400 minutes of this crap I pity you. And question your sanity.

Worst show of 2019 so far.

Brilliant, massively underrated, laugh out loud funny from start to finish. Not for the feint of heart, or people who are easily offended and/or looking for offence in comedy. One of Chris Lilley's best series so far, I hope he does a second series. As usual the critics (who this show IS NOT for) have lambasted this show for being grotesque and offensive, but this type of unhinged comedyBrilliant, massively underrated, laugh out loud funny from start to finish. Who's Robyn Bahr anyway!? Expand

Listen, if i was to grade/compare this show/or any other chris lilley content against other comedies and what traditionally is considered funny....Yeah i guess it would get a poor score.

But if im being fair, I find it interestingly enjoyable to watch him transform into each character. The nuance with which he plays each is a delight to watch.

I almost feel like that is the prism with which to watch his comedy. Not in the "one-dimensional" sense of whether what happens is funny. But with for example: his eyes and mannerisms and body language he brings to each character.

I've watched whole episodes and not laughed once, but i still found it amusing to watch this guy transform and play these "slice-of-life" scenes.

    Its not for everyone.

But to hate it just cause it doesn't fit into the conventional "comedy" box i feel is wrong.

The truth is if Tracy Ullman did this exact content it would be universally praised. Take from that what you will.

Summer Heights High is one of my favorite shows of all time - - funny and touching at the same time. I wasn't a fan of the next series focusing just on Jaime - or the series after that. With Lunatics, there are some laughs, but I think he has too many characters, and I don't understand why the college girl has to be 7 feet tall, or the realtor has to have a huge butt. What's the point?

I’m sure Lilley is capturing different Australian types and language registers better than I can appreciate, but still the whole thing looks and feels like a ragbag of choices that neither hang together per character or per show.

Bloated and puttering ... With 10 episodes at an interminable 40 minutes each, there's just too much material here to slog through. I wasn't even sure I could digest half that number of episodes. Because much of it should have been left on the cutting room floor, the series itself feels like a first draft of something that could have been tighter and more developed.
