The worst thing about this show is that they don't all die. The main driver of the plot is stupidity, and behaviour that makes you think the writers had never met another human being before. Throw in a couple morality lessons for kindergarteners and i guess you can call it "philosophical" discussions, and you have your standard lazily made modern tv show. It gets a three mainly for the production values, great look and effects. The story is paint by numbers and does nothing really exciting or interesting, but it also isn't awful. What really ruins it are the main characters which are somewhere between uninteresting and completely insufferable. Even a solid cast couldn't polish this turd. The only redeeming, interesting characters are Judy and Don but it's not nearly enough.
If as a viewer you can't really buy these people being capable of surviving, and more importantly don't want them to survive, it makes for a pretty much complete failure of a show.
And this is coming from someone who never watched the original.

It’s too kiddy for me, none of the characters ever die so how fun is that ? And not realistic. Hollywood shoving the female power down our throats by making Dr. Smith a woman!!! And Judy is played by a black girl. Why do they keep doing this. All we needed was a transgender and gay love affair to complete this,
Not interesting enough for adults, great for kids. Feels super Disney ish

Maybe I get around watching some more, but I am not encouraged. The first two episodes are actually nice, although already show some of the flaws I mention below. We get introduced to most of the cast and they establish their personalities. We also get to meet the robot. They gave that a good twist and a mysterious background.

But then the mediocrity of the writing got the better of the series. This poor writing is evident immediately at the start of episode three. It jumps back in time and back to Earth to establish that doctor Smith is evil. She kills her sister and then takes over her identity, which explains her presence. But this is a totally unnecessary addition to the story as it was already established that there was something wrong with her in episode two when she abandoned two other survivors to a terrible storm and telling the Robinson's that she was all alone. The bad thing about this isn't just that we get to rubbed in that she is evil, but it sucks out the mystery of the character and it creates a new problem. How the heck did Smith get on the spaceship and why did she actually go on that spaceship?

Additional poor writing quickly follows. First are the cheap jump-scares. You know the kind where someone suddenly hands another character something from off screen while a creepy music is playing? It happens here.
Then next the man disappears under water when snakes arrive, but in the next scene the snake is slammed hard into vision to jump scare us. He had killed it with.. well how actually? Next come the snake(s). The snakes are feeding of the fuel of the spaceship. We get told that this fuel must be akin to their food source. So let us dwell on this for a moment. On an alien planet is a life-form that happens to eat the same stuff that your spaceship uses for fuel? What an incredible coincidence!

But that is not all. These snakes, half as long as a man and as thick as his arm apparently suck out the fuel of that space ship at an alarming rate. Is there so little fuel? And why do they have to manually shut down the connection between the backup fuel tank and the main thus forcing the man to brave the waters with the snakes? So your main connection cannot be controlled remotely. How incredibly convenient for the story!

But hold on a moment. Mam has just established that these snakes feed from the methane-whatever based fuel. So why would they attack humans? Or are humans now also methane-whatever based lifeforms? Is it me, or does this all make no sense?

The poor writing is also surfacing in relation to the connection between the people. We see Will having images and dreams that suggest that the robot is nefarious. But he doesn't tell his parents, but he does tell this total stranger asking her not to tell his parents. Do you feel where this is heading? It is so in your face that it is annoying.

But there is even more. We see the good Doctor sneak around reading the private things of the others while they sleep, because you know: no doors. But two of these people had bad dreams and wake up in the middle of the night.. but not at that moment when the doctor is reading their private stuff. How convenient!

But even more can be seen in that people refuse to give each other vital information purely to leave the audience in the dark. So people will say things like: Oh wait, of course that is it! And then run off without telling people even when it is important and they are right there. At this point it is obvious that this will be another soap with people not being people and the story going nowhere. It just need to generate unending drama. Good story telling be dammed.

I can deal with ships traveling to other stars or giant robots and all the things that we can't currently do but maybe could one day; I'm talking about scientific impossibilities based on stellar evolution and basic Newtonian physics.
That being said, the Robinsons are charming for the most part, and Don has his moments, too. But Dr. Smith is like having a little yappy chihuahua in your ear that just won't shut up.

Seasons 2 of this show is one of the worst examples of 'contrived danger' I have ever seen in a series. Maybe it's part of the 'formula' that the family needs to be in constant, neverending, cascading, chainlinked dangerous situations againSeasons 2 of this show is one of the worst examples of 'contrived danger' I have ever seen in a series. Maybe it's part of the 'formula' that the family needs to be in constant, neverending, cascading, chainlinked dangerous situations again and again and again and again but my god it's so insufferably predictable it actually breaks the immersion of the show and makes it an absolute chore to watch.

If you watch this show with the mindset for each and every new event of 'and how will THIS event cause the family to be in danger?' you will literally never be disappointed because something will be along in under fifteen seconds to show you how it will put the family in danger.

If you attempt to watch season 2 while being in possession of pattern recognition, the show quickly become tired, stale, predictable, and utterly banal. Wow the family is in danger! But don't worry, something will come along and they'll be out of the danger in a minute or so and then something new will come along to put them back into danger. But don't worry, something will come along and they'll be out of the danger in a minute or so and then something new will come along and put them back into danger. But don't worry! Something will come along and put them back in danger--

And I'm sure you get the point.

Spare yourself from this insufferably formulaic hogwash.

The problem with this show is the plot generally relies on most of the characters being stupid which makes them annoying and makes it frustrating to watch. Clearly it has a big budget, and could be good, it just needs to be more intelligent.

With very well stablished narrative lines, the show makes you travel throughout space. Also, it raises questions about life out there and how can we reach them. Lost in Space also shows very good acting and a diversity of actors from all over the globe. Which makes sense as not only USA citizens get to go on a mission on space. The visual effects are, no doubt about it, a masterpiece. It recreates the depths of the universe with a very good accuracy, respecting laws of physics and logic. The plot is very thrilling and makes you keep watching after the end of every episode. The show knows this and season 2 is self aware to the point where the characters themselves point out the lack of time to do anything and there is always a timer. The family cast is perfect. One particular frustrating point is the families continuous trust of Dr.Smith to the point of it being comedic and this throws you as the viewer into a back and forth perspective that the threat of Dr. Smith is over. This is a small caveat and you learn to accept it , then not accept then accept it. Anyway I hope we get another season or 2 for this show and its closed out properly. I don't think the show will have legs long enough to make it past a season 4 but that would be perfect, there needs to be closure and a point. This is one of the reasons why I stopped watching the walking dead ("That show had no end goal and each season was a recycle of the last with just a different human threat and another main character dying").Back to LiS?.If the writers can up the ante continuously like they did with season 2 over season 1 then we are in for something special. The music and specific effects are excellent-- loved those dinosaurs. All of the action revolves of course around the Robinson family. and their commitment to each other. Anything is possible if they all work together. This season corrects one of the big issues from last time around. Dr Smith in season 1 was a generally unlikeable character. I’m happy to report they have humanized her (thanks to the help of some flashbacks and her (sorta) helping the Robinsons). The show is a bit slow at times but the positive far out weights the negative. If you're looking for a feel good family adventure with some heavy scifi thrown in, check out "Lost In Space". I'm not sure if there will a season 3. If so, my only request is that they give Debbie The Chicken more screen time. We need more Debbie!. Expand

I am not familiar with the original and a remake. Having looked completely at the first season there was a slight disappointment. After all the series began very perfectly, the first 2-3 series so in general the best. And further shortcomings began to appear. And the first - a lack of the budget. It is visible that on qualitative graphics there is no money. The second and the main thing - a plot children's. Every time everything happens to the best outcome, including a final scene. Began perfectly, finished badly. Let's look what will be in the 2nd season.
Season 2:
Season 2 I waited with skepticism. After all, season 1 caused mixed feelings. Season 2 is larger, more dynamic. It has more characters. He 's almost all better. The series kind of matured. And the ending of season 2 I liked a lot more. Unfortunately to see all this will have to look at the first 2 series, and they are quite boring.

There are great visuals, action scenes, and scenes that capture your attention with tension. One of the best parts of this show is the bond that is created between Will Robinson and the Robot. My biggest criticism of the show would be pacing. At times it’s a bit clunky, but overall pretty good. At the end of season 1 I found myself wanting more! That should be a great guide to how well a show performed. I can’t wait for season 2, and I whole-heartedly recommend this show for anyone wanting to watch a clean and fun family drama. Expand

If you like formulaic Hollywood action flicks, you'll probably like LiS. It's like a Dwayne Johnson movie in space.

Most sci-fi requires suspension of disbelief because of some hand-wavy physics or the like. LiS requires it because they apparently live in a Murphy's Law universe -- it's absurd how much goes wrong ALL THE TIME. But this approach is like the boy who cried wolf. There are constant life-or-death situations that the family escapes (numerous times per episode), and no one dies, so you become numb to the forced drama because you know that they'll pull through somehow... again. I started fast-forwarding through action sequences because it just became tedious, and I knew everyone would end up ok (saying plenty of glib remarks afterward as if they didn't just almost *die*).

The sound design drives me crazy. The incidental music and foley are often twice as loud as the dialog, and virtually *every* scene ends with an obnoxious horn swell. The director is trying REALLY hard to make you tense, but it just makes me irritated.

Top all that off with plenty of trite dialog and a dearth of story and you've got... well, a Dwyane Johnson movie. I made it to episode 4 or 5 of season 2 before finally tapping out (you win, Dwayne! :-D).

That said, production values are clearly high -- everything really looks great. Acting is mostly good with Parker Posey as the stand-out.

Some people clearly love this, but it's all too predictable and annoying for me to keep watching.

After you get past the typical: "dads are dumb, men are dumb, women are so smart" plots, it turns into a decent and family friendly show. The science and plot are sketchy and wow, so many times during a serious life or death situation two things happen:

1. The main family of characters stop and have a "family moment", including long winded conversations
and
2. One of the family members, almost certainly the "super mom", Doctor Quinn Medicine woman, "the force is female", woman power mom comes up with some super solution that solves all the problems and humiliates everyone around them with her super intelligence. Yikes.

In the end, it was clean fun that made little sense. If you want to watch a good clean show with your kids, go for it. If you have daughters and want them to think they can do anything (including humiliate people 20 - 30 years old than them with their super intelligence) then go for it. But their cockyness and arrogance had me rooting against them as often as for them.
