Damian Lewis is gorgeous. His facial expressions and dialect are spot-on for the character he plays- Charlie Crews... he is a profoundly talented actor that deserves an Emmy for his performance. I laugh myself to tears he is so funny. Can't wait for new episodes to come!

Thoughtful, engaging show that asks a little from it's audience but pays back big. Quick becoming a slow-motion "Deadwood" reunion, even as it comes more and more into it's own. Lost my interest quick. The dialog needs work and I am bored with the main character. Had potential but I couldn't bring myself back to watch a second episode.

I think this is one of the better shows of the new fall season offerings. Quirky, well-written with appealing and interesting characters. Hope this is one that they don't cancel without giving it a chance.

Interestingly, the critics who like the show are from the newspapers that intellectuals and artists read, whereas the negative reviews are all in provincial rags. All this and a killer soundtrack, too! Goes to show that, just because you have a big ol' brain, don't mean you can't dance! Expand

This was the best show going prior to the writers strike. I'm glad to hear it will return in the fall.

I really like this show. I don't want to see another CSI type show anyway. Isn't this venue all played out? Crews and Reese play well off each other and make for a fun watch. I'd like to see more of Reese's dark side though.

This is a great show because you think all the way through it. If you watch tv half asleep and expect it to satisfy you, look elsewhere.

This is the first new show in years that absolutely blew me away. It's smart without being smug, funny without being ridiculous, and the dialog is some of the best I've ever seen on TV.

my wife and i both love this show, it has intriguing characters and a different way of thinking which is original and its sad that the professional reviewers can not see this and there too narrow minded to keep giving reviews.

Avery good show with great work by Damian Lewis- a very good character. The overall mystery is well laid out and the weekly plots are different and interesting. The humour is well placed and the weird zen material works. My favourite show this fall. Keep it on,

"Life" may be another "detective" show, but hardly. It's characters are new and inventive, and there is a ticking underlying plot that allows more to meet the eye than just solving cases.

Damian Lewis is an exciting, and believable actor. I've followed his career ever since Band of Brothers, and was so excited to see he was going to take a series on NBC. The supporting cast is solid as well. The excerpts from the "documentary" are a nice change of pace ... but it does raise a question ... what happens when Crews finally solves the crime of who framed him?

I would give it an 81/2 if given the option. I think this show has a great deal of potential and could be a 10 if the character development includes giving the female actors in it a heart. With the exception of his lawyer I have found them to be either rude, cruel, or ding-batty. Characters just didn't draw me in, decided that about 1/3 of the way through the show, that there had to be something more interesting on. BORING... Real disappointed in this one, was hoping for more in the first 20 minutes that what this brought, had high hopes and was let down.

I agree with Kevin L's review except that I've only seen the first episode. I wasn't a huge fan of the first episode, although I do believe that the lead character was interesting and the actor played him well.

Crews quirky mannerisms don't overwhelm the plot, and the show does strikes a nice balance between whimsy and its much darker backstory.
  2. It's an entirely different vibe, further enhanced by a charismatic and quirky central character who is both unpredictable and impossible to pigeonhole. Given a chance to develop, Detective Charlie Crews could someday take a place with the likes of Kojak, Columbo and Monk.

    Mildly satisfying, but pretty formulaic.
