    Legion hits the ball out of the park. It's delightfully confusing, with reveals stripped off two layers of the onion at a time, only to have one more layer added back on. The cinematography is excellent, the acting is great, and the characters are engaging. A hell of a lot is packed into a single episode, making it worth another watch. For its genre, Legion is as good as it gets. I'mLegion hits the ball out of the park. For its genre, Legion is as good as it gets. I'm not a Marvel fanboy, and I've been a bit bored with their recent releases, other than Guardians of the Galaxy. The decision to produce Legion was a great call, and based on the first episode, the series is in good hands. I can't wait for more!… Expand

    Better than any of the X-Men movies. Again, Noah Hawley starts from the assumption that his audience can keep up with his storytelling and it pays off for us.

    This is a real person's review. All those 10s are incestuously review-promoting network shills. "Legion" starts as a study in mental illness and like time travel tropes, it's very confusing. This doesn't make for good tv or even basic storytelling. Because it's steeped in mental illness - paranoid schitz - the plot/storyline is VERY confusing. You cannot be someone's favorite show when you confuse them at every turn. On the plus side, the visuals are stunning at times, but that's supposed to be "icing on the cake" but when the cake is made of mud then even the icing loses its appeal. And it doesn't help at all that the premiere episode was the length of a feature film at 90-mins! "Hey, everyone, let's get mind-twisted for almost 2 hrs!" The closing scene was straight out of "Sucker Punch" so while I found that familiar it just confirmed how bat sxit crazy "Legion" really is. Look, I'm a mainstream tv viewer, and if "Legion" doesn't make more sense by E02 then it'll sadly be a one and done series.… Expand

    The best show currently on television. Better than Game of Thrones. Better than Westworld. Mind blowing, visually stunning, and always new. I can't wait for every new episode.

    BEST SHOW ON TV RIGHT NOW! I loved everything about it. BEST thing Marvel has ever helped create. Please just keep making it more awesome next season.

    This show has blown me away. My wife and I sat down and watched the first episode and were immediately sucked in. It's delightfully confusing, you never know from episode to episode what to expect and it constantly leaves you wanting more, always speculating about what will happen next.

    We had eight episodes, but not all the episodes were as compelling as they should've been. The show had some lowlights, sometimes the episodes didn't feel connected at all. And some misuse of some characters. But definitively there were more highlights than lowlights. ''The Shadow King" was presented as our main villain for the season, the design of the villain was smart until the writers decided to wrap him up for a second season. I don't mean that the villain was bad, instead, it was really scary and had some balls compared to many of the villains we see even in movies. The tv show felt as if it was a horror show with some elements of drama, superheroes, comedy and even musical. All thanks to the great writing and directing of the show, great characters that you actually cared for them. Everyone did an amazing performance, but shout out to Aubrey Plaza who completely stole the show , her performance as Lenny Busker was award-worthy, she really gave life to the character she was in. My favorite highlight in the season was Episode 7, the best episode of the season surely. The episode was directed by Dennie Gordon and god he really did an outstanding job, from a really noisy ambient to a silent film just in one chapter, combined with a powerful edition that really engaged us to it. But returning to the lowlights, what a waste of the final episode they had. Cleverly they left the villain for one more season (at least) but at what cost? Also we had section 3, kind of a villain too, that at the end didn't work for more than filling up loose ends. Sometimes you could feel how the show was nearly starting to drag until something visually got us back to the storyline. They could've done only six episodes and that would've been better. At the end Legion is a technical masterpiece with breathtaking performances, references to other characters in the X-Men universe, great direction and writing but with some minor issues that probably will be the reason why is not perfect. Definitively worth seeing. 8.6 to this first season looking forward for the improvements at season two.    … Expand

Noah Hawley's writing brings all the quirk and obscurity we've come to love from Fargo and allows it to blossom in a medium (a bizarre comic book character in the X-Men universe) that couldn't be more perfect.     This is one of the best new TV Shows of the year, it's more than just a superhero show... the scenes are so well crafted and beautifully done, the performances are great, going to give Dan Stevens and Aubrey Plaza a shoutout here, because they are simply amazing every episode. Hopefully we can get a connection with the movies and the show might just be perfect

    This show is absolutely insane. I'm glad it's more than just a standard run of the mill superhero show. The music, performances, editing, and shots they get make this show a trip to watch. Watch when sober because it'll scare the crap out of you at times.

    Another great example of how different the superhero genre can be when directors and dare I say artists are allowed to explore a character. Much the same as comic books had to grow into more complex and compelling stories, the evolution has now happened on film. Forget what you think you know about comics when watching this and just enjoy the ride.

    If you are a fan of the character expect some things to be different than comic lore but what matters is the character is fundamentally the same.

    This show is heavy on style and perhaps more horror than action.

    If you are looking for the Avengers or x-men blockbuster this is not the show for you, but if you are looking for a good story, heavily stylish, and a show you can't check your email during, this is it!    … Expand

    Noah Hawley creates a visually insane looking world that is almost too good to be true. The plot is so twisted that it actually makes a breakthrough to the usual superhero formula. I'm hooked!

    I was really looking forward to this show. After watching the first episode I have to say, for the most part, I wasn't disappointed. The cinematography is stunning, the acting was pretty good as well, but the writing felt a little too confusing at times, but hopefully that will get better as the story unfolds. It really gave you the feeling of confusion, panic, and danger, that theI was really looking forward to this show.     Absolutely perfect! There is no other way to describe this show. The pilot episode feels like a ninety minute acid trip, and it is amazing. Any superhero fan will love it.

    So satisfying to watch! Quality in perfection and overall excellent cinematography, EXCEPTIONAL cinematography! The story telling is one of its kind and with great actors like Dan Stevens you will be satisfied!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This may be the most insane TV show to date. It has psychedelic imagery, a terrifying villain, and a layered story. I am generally not a fan of horror, but this show simply oozes polish, with every frame most likely having a secondary meaning or the Shadow King. The performances in this show are amazing. Dan Stevens nails the "constantly confused" David, as well as his slowly gaining control over his powers. Aubrey Plaza is amazing as Lenny and the Shadow King, completely insane and over-the-top.… Expand

    WOW! First episode a home-run. I loved the story line...insanity vs government conspiracy. Acting was great. The art direction, set design and costumes are great and reminded me of "A Clockwork Orange." So far totally hooked and wish we could binge.

    I was genuinely interested in this show at the beginning, but after watching 4 episodes, it became very hard to continue, as it was so boring and repetitive. It seems that confusion is the only real point of this series. Nothing really happened in the first half of the season, so I just gave up on watching. I don't even care what happens in the second half.

    Great show so far. Only thing I would say they need to start doing to get a 9 or 10 from me is to start focusing on the narrative and less on the theatrics. So far, it's not a major problem (hence why it gets an 8), but if it keeps up, it might just end up dragging the show down. There is potential for a great story here, it just needs to be given the attention it needs to thrive. WeGreat show so far.     I have grown to love and appreciate this show the more I watch it the better it gets I love the action the suspence even the slight humor of it i like aubri plassms part she's awesome and hilarious the show is super fun and exciting though only for mature audiences due to mild nudity brief sexuality strong violence and language but you gotta watch it if your looking for an awesome time

    Stylistically, this show is a league of it's own. Just watch the first episode and you'll see what I mean. And it doesn't let up. The surrealism, the unique special effects, and creativity of of producers alone make this show well worth watching.     This show is so captivating and has you hooked after the first two episodes. It is very hard to describe to people what this is about without ruining the surprise but in the beginning it reminded me of the movie Memento and then it just kept getting better and better from there.     Legion is the single most remarkable, mind-blowing, mind-expanding, psychedelic head trip I've seen on tv in I don't even know how long. It quickly moved right up to my top three favorite shows. The excellent cast and their performances breath such life to a storyline built on endless surprises with multiple 'realities' that results in you never quite knowing what will happen next, evenLegion is the single most remarkable, mind-blowing, mind-expanding, psychedelic head trip I've seen on tv in I don't even know how long. It quickly moved right up to my top three favorite shows. The excellent cast and their performances breath such life to a storyline built on endless surprises with multiple 'realities' that results in you never quite knowing what will happen next, even when you feel secure that you have a grasp on what's actually happening, which you most likely don't. Sublime writing together with a great cast and stellar special effects makes for a show that no doubt goes over the head of many a viewer. I suspect a good number of the mixed and negative reviews are from people who want it to stop being what it is and settle down into a more generic 'super-hero' show (Daredevil, JJ, Agents of Shield) so they can follow along.     Possibly my favorite show of 2017. Thank you FX for taking a risk and creating such a creative take on super hero TV. The look, music and performances are all top notch, just as Noah Hawley has done with Fargo. I don't always know what's going on but in Noah's hands that's part of the fun. Highly recommended viewing.

    The visuals are just stunning. The characters have a complexity to them that is hard to find not only in superhero genre, but in TV generally speaking. The events and their presentation leads to multiple mind-bends during this fairly short season. One of the most engaging modern TV series.

    This is based upon the Pilot only, I trust a Pilot to tell me how a show will be and how it will continue, well I was confused throughout the episode, i did not know what was real or in the guys head, not through parts but through the whole thing, it didnt let up, and just when i thorught it was getting to a point, it threw in a dance number and more nonsense, and the last part felt like aThis is based upon the Pilot only, I trust a Pilot to tell me how a show will be and how it will continue, well I was confused throughout the episode, i did not know what was real or in the guys head, not through parts but through the whole thing, it didnt let up, and just when i thorught it was getting to a point, it threw in a dance number and more nonsense, and the last part felt like a you tube video of someone who has learned to add speciel effects, also I couldnt figure out what time they where in, its 70's style everythign yet its furturistic tech, and the treatment of mentally ill people was not, the show left me feeling very confused, is this how its gonna be, not knowing whats real, or are they gonna get to the point, and not over styleise pointless actions with slow mo and retro music, oh how clever, i mean anyone can confuse and stylise things, but move your story along in a way that i can follow and dosnt confuse me the whole time, i felt tricked, the shows actors and sets looked lovely, shame it started with a will to make me feel dumb.… Expand

    Just finished watching yesterday and I am still in a state of shock as to how awesome this was. It was better than any of the x-men movies. Noah Hawley is captivating, your eyes are riveted to the screen as you watch an incredible story unfold.

    One can not deny the originality of the narration, but truth to be told this is the only speckle of light this show has to offer.
    The script is tragically fragmented, distorted and bent to the point where one seriously starts doubting if it has been written indeed under the influence of psychotropic substances.

    Whether or not this may be considered a “typical mark” for the show, abusing this type of construct only lead to an overall sense of “dizziness” and dislike that overgrow the spectator after a few episodes.
    Characters could have been better portrayed and explored, but instead the overall approach - terribly resembling the one used for advertising psychiatric treatments in the 50’s - renders each character a mere mocking version of itself, trapped inside a story that is merely a “loop”.
    A loop in which the viewer is caught for a while, expecting at first and then desperately hoping in the end for a “gran finale” that could somehow justify the endless loop he is been watching: but this cathartic moment never arrives, and after six episodes of “nonsense” merely describing the hallucinations of a schizophrenic patient it is too late to save the whole story.
    The script stretches from a single idea, not even completely original, and then develops on a single plane exploring the mental illness of a group of patients with some of the most known – for the public – psychiatric pathologies. On this background, we can assist at sporadic “active” events when the show seems to find again a plot aside from the loop and the narration seems to be proceed.
    But in the end, nothing moves forward: each and every thread “loop back” to the initial contest of the story and the whole narration quickly becomes boring and futile.
    Some of the actors made an incredible effort to portrait the assigned character, but they all sadly appear to be “left alone”, without direction and with a script who has only one page: the beginning, inside a mental hospital.
    Photography follows closely this hackneyed and prosy script, conforming to all sorts of stereotypes already used (both on big and small screen) for describing psychiatric institutions between 1950 and 1960 with the sole exception of some horror influence.
    The horror sequences are by far the better part of this show: sadly, they were probably intended as “minor sequences” intended to strengthen the hype of the entire story but ended up being the sole interesting parts.
    “Legion” is a TV Show who can – and will be – appreciated only by the lovers of psycho-dramas tainted with a little bit of horror and wrapped with a thin veil of pseudo action.    … Expand

    OMG how did they manage to make X-Men so feckin boring? The show basically has no actual plot, it just wants to be psychedelic and confusing the whole time. Nothing actually happens, it's just painfully dull.

"Could we still be in David's mind? No. How do you know? ....I mean I'm pretty sure..." Essentially with this show we have no idea if what we're really watching is actually meaningful or whether it's just another dream or projection or simulation or whatever other plot device they've used so far. Some people like this but personally I feel that it cheapens the whole production, sort of like using the whole "It was all just a dream" ending but literally all the time.

    As a side note, I'm not sure if they blew their whole budget on the pilot but the episodes feel as though they've been getting progressively more dreary and drab. The first episode was full of bright and vibrant color but now most of what we're seeing is a lot more dark and subdued.    … Expand

    Righteous. Really only word to describe this extremely weird, disconcerting, fascinating take on XMen I've ever seen. This show was so good I watched it twice in a row. Eagerly awaiting more, hope it's as good as this first ep. right on right on.

    Best new show on tv. Might be the best "super-hero/xmen" show ever.

    The director's style is amazing. It could be considered a horror show too.

    Do yourself a favor and watch this.

    Apparently you only need to say mutant in a TV series and it automatically gets a 10. Legion is repetitive and boring. Almost nothing has happened in 5 episodes. Apart from the lead, there's minimal character development, leading to very dull characters. I think the quirkiness is supposed to make Legion interesting, but it doesn't, it makes it stupid.

My wife and I sat through 5 episodes waiting for this show to leave the mental asylum and dream sequences, but no luck. My wife often likes syfy series that I pass on, and she hated it.     This show is fantastic and a real refresh to the superheroes genre. Great acting, superb art direction, and a psychedelic plot (which I love). Noah Hawley has done great here, once again. This is definitely a must watch - even more to people who like to be challenged.

After watching 6 to7 episodes I don't even really know what the main character powers are in this show. They overdone the metaphysical and drawn-out each show to an hour with things that could have been covered in 15 to 20 minutes. But with all Marvel TV shows I'mAs with most Marvel TV shows it's heavy on drama and Low on action. I guess the expression talk is cheap rules Marvel greatly.     The styling reminds me of The Royal Tenenbaums but with an Xmen plot. Not what I was expecting. I am in a holding pattern on this show. I love scifi and I am willing to give the artiness a try but it better come down to Earth by a lot.

    unbelievably amazing TV show.definitely the best psychological thriller serie that mesmerize the viewer till the last second.great actors,great directing,magnificent screen play that doesn't get even a little bit cliche.

    The only 'superhero' show I like. It surely is not for everyone.
    A great deal of plot takes place inside the main characters mind.
    So, if you're not into that kind of thing, you probably won't like it.
    I, for one, found it suspenseful and I was always looking forward to the next episode.

Summing up, it has 4 episodes with good plot, and another 4 episodes with bad plot, since Noah Hawley only participated in 3 of the episodes.

    It is a great, GREAT show. The pilot is a must-watch for everyone, and the person who says this doesn't like almost anything related with superheroes. I'm afraid that many people will loose this experience because of the fault of those 4 bad episodes, but the ones who can finish the first season will be eager to taste the second one.    … Expand

    Episodes 1 and 2 were fascinating and gorgeous. I was excited to have found a great new show. Episode 3 really dragged with uninteresting filler content, but I still had hopes for episode 4. Nope. No advancement of plot, no rising action, no coherent narrative. I dropped out here.

    I think the most important fact it is that they went all the way giving a spectacular story and not taking the plot to a neighbourghood level like netflix does with their marvel series, here you see a great plot, great FX and it really feels like David is something important in the marvel universe and not a cheap b series mutant.

    a very entertaining and well directed Ep01 up to the final and grotesque fighting scene, where (as usual) SEAL snipers literally can't hit a grandmother walking slowly across a forest area. Ep02 is such a disappointment because the typical and excruciatingly boring superhero tropes reemerge amid a very thin plot.     The first result seems to me strangely. It begins in a lunatic asylum and one understands first nothing at all. Strange scenes one does not understand line up themselves.
    Only at the end one notices, nevertheless, more lies behind. If the confusion was not to 2/3 of the episode this would be a good beginning.

    Generally confusing most of the time, Legion works but with a number of blemishes. A big factor is the hit or miss acting. While Stevens and Keller do a great job at as the main characters, the supporting cast never really lives up to their example. Very bland performances abound for most of them and can really take you out of a scene. Also some CGI is very very bad. They've also kept the "it could all just be in his head" angle going the entire time, which adds more thought provoking ideas to the base. In the end, season two should be good as long as they can clear up some of the poor performances and the poor CGI.… Expand

Now, after six episodes, i'm starting to get a bit anxious and annoyed. It's visions inside nightmares inside hallucinations inside flashbacks in other dimensions. In the comic books the main character is a schizophrenic telepath. The TV series is like a lens onto that fractured mind; a reality-bending fusion of psychedelic rock music, philosophical musings on reality, 1960s drug culture, and telekinetic wonderment.

    There's nothing unexpected in the plot - hero overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds to defeat the villain and win the girl's affection - but the delivery defies all normal conventions. Although there are action scenes, and they are spectacular, the TV series delves deeply into the characters, their state of mind, and the nature of reality.

    Acting performances are generally excellent all around, but stand-out performance from Aubrey Plaza, who steals every scene, and Dan Stevens, who successfully convinces you of the insanity bubbling beneath his facade of normality.

    Clothing and set designs are gorgeous. At times it seems inspired by 1950s and 1960s fashion, but then you remember this is the modern world, full of MRI machines and portable computers. That jarring juxtaposition between decades further enhances the schizophrenic world (or dream?) the characters inhabit.

    Musical score is a perfect match for the writing. Clearly inspired by Pink Floyd's earlier albums - one of the characters is even named after Syd Barrett - but a modern homage rather than a reproduction Of all the X-Men series, this is the first and only one where I'm enthusiastic to seek out the soundtrack.

    I've enjoyed the other X-Men series as mindless fun. But in this X-Men series a masterful team of writers, actors, designers and musicians has turned the source material into something more. Legion isn't just a show about a comic book superhero. Legion is a unique experience. 10/10    … Expand

    I made an account just review this show....and this show is epic. I saw a few reviews saying negative things, but I cannot understand how someone can not get captivated by this show. Absolutely one of my top 5 shows. The whole story comes from comics so you have to have respect for it also. 10/10

    The Acting is amazing especially Aubrey Plaza. Great art direction and SoundTrack, weekly I can't wait for the next episode.

Either they are zombies that haven't stepped into their own journey, or they are too immature and unlearned to understand the themes, or both.     Noah Hawley can do no wrong. The show is not only beautiful to look at, but is clever, imaginative, brilliantly written and very well acted, especially Stevens, Plaza and Clement. Although it can be a little bit slow to begin with, the payoff is fantastic. Cannot wait for Season 2.

    The first season of Legion was, I thought, pretty good. The second season is dreadfully boring. Be prepared to suffer through several episodes with minimum dialogue or action. It is as if the writer is trying to convince us how clever he is. Please, writer, pick up the pace!

Thankfully, Legion is totally different than the myriad of comic books shows on TV and in Theatres. Just a couple of the genius moves: (1) having the show take place in current times, but the sets, the costumes, the hairstyles are completely 1960s . . . and the best part of itCreative genius!     Incredibly creative, conceptual and all-around brilliant. Season 2 is off to a roaring start, subtly weaving in more of the X-Men lore, while retaining its own brazenly unique perspective on the superhero genre. I mean, deciding to portray three powerful psychics squaring off in the form of a dance battle? Artistic badassery.

    I'm rewatching this after seeing Moon Knight and wow, the difference in quality between the two shows is night (heh) and day. Legion actually reminds me quite a lot of Twin Peaks but in a really good way. It's not quite up to that level of weirdness but it excels at still being a fresh take on a genre that, to be fair, could absolutely be accused of being a bit stale.     Love Dan Stevens. Show looked GREAT. But man I got bogged down around episode 6. Legion is stuck in its own head...literally! It goes into the characters head which is in the character's head which is in the character's head....Oh. My. Gawd. Just stop. Show lost all forward momentum as it got bogged down in psycho-babble minutia. Convoluted would be an understatement. Huge disappointment.

    [Legion is] produced like a cerebral art house version of a superhero series, thrumming with precision and emotion where the genre usually calls for shock and awe, and assembled with an entrancing period aesthetic (it seems to be set in the early 1970s, but that could just be a side-effect of David's fragile mental state) and stunning, occasionally horrifying visual effects.

    It’s handsomely shot, and smartly acted, and ingeniously constructed enough to suggest there’s something mind-blowing lurking at its center. But as Hawley pushes from jazzed-up origin story to psychodrama, it starts to feel like a show with a Rubik’s cube where its heart should be.
