There is an extensive world in this show as wide as the sea, but as shallow as a puddle of water. Conversations are so superficial that most characters come across as hollow five-year Olds. The world is 'bad' because of capitalism... Which is just so painful to hear. 'America is in trouble', is what the 16 year old college student thinks who did the research for the show. These are just two examples of dozens of dumb, empty feeling statements.

The characters. They are juvenile, naive, egocentric and most of all... Pathetic. The Utopians son is cringeworthy, just moping around like a kid who doesn't get acknowledged by his alcohol father. And the Utopian... My god. This guy is an idiot that has watched too many movies. That goes for every character in this show by the way.

But the show in its simplicity does entertain. Just don't watch too much of it, or it will decay your brain. 6/10.

This show is absolute garbage. The makeup is amateurish. The costumes are hokey. The dialogue sounds like it was written for 7 yr olds. And it's boring.

    That good thing.
The origin part is actually good, if that had been the entire show it could have easily been a 7 or 8.

    The bad.
Attempt at a dysfunctional family. This is for me a big question, let along the question of why every single superhero waited about the same amount of years before having said kids. There is no reason for it and there to much focus on it. Oh and the drama is just bad drama as if ripped from some random show.
The daughter. This character is bad, so bad. I started skipping her scenes because I did not want my eyes to roll out of my head. It is a painful attempt to pretend to be edgy. She comes of at a brat playing a rebel without a cause.
Those damn kids. Ya, the kids are on a general basis annoying, and those attempt at edgy parties are annoying. Ya, basicly the kids are annoying though not everyone as annoying as the daughter character.
More drama close to zero action. This is a superhero show with almost no action. The focus is so heavy on the bad drama that the writters busy smelling their own farts almost forgot to add any action at all. There is a way to balance these things, just look at almost every other superhero show out there and you will see.

The superhero genre is a crowded market. I keep hearing about 'superhero fatigue' yet one after the other, superhero movies and tv shows continue to dominate the box office and streaming viewership. I hurried onto the Internet after finishing the series expecting to find critical praise, and instead mostly found critical pans. That's too bad. i really had a good time watching this one. A lot of the things critics are, well, being critical of - I felt worked. The back-and-forth between the early 20th century origin story and the modern day worked for me and the ageing, de-ageing process used on the actors was pretty great. Sheldon/Utopian, in particular, was almost like watching two different actors playing the same role in different time periods. The fact that it was the same actor is a testament to Josh Duhamel's acting. Same goes for Walter/Brainwave, convincing both as a young man and a modern elder.

The origin story, woven throughout each episode, really worked for me and kept the pace relentless. It didn't seem to hit for most critics though - they cite the balancing act as clumsy. One critic went so far as to say that they should have just devoted one episode to the origin story. To me that would make it like every other show. The interwoven time periods and story lines really set this one apart for me. Juxtaposing the adventure leading to the original heroes' powers, bringing a beam of hope to the Great Depression - against the modern era where everything is falling apart and the OG's codes are in question - are what make Jupiter's Legacy so compelling. I'm hooked on the story.

I also think the effects were pretty spectacular (something else many critics and I seem to disagree on). There are a lot of powers being used throughout - and they all look comic book cool. The stakes feel high, too, with villains like Darkstar happy to tear the heads off of our heroes. The violence and gore isn't on par with The Boys or Invincible, but feels more legitimate and purposefully-placed. The big bads don't seem to have motivations as realistic as, say, Flag Smasher in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but Darkstar is far scarier because he feels like a legit comic book villain. Making the audience 'feel for' the bad guys (i.e. Thanos, Flag Smasher, Wanda, Homelander, Killmonger, etc. etc. etc.) is all fine and good but every now and then just give me a bad guy who is a bad guy for the sake of being a bad guy. Darkstar fits that bill.

The acting is good all-around. There are no weak links. Everyone brings it, everyone's believable. The one exception might be Paragon, who feels bland, even though he's the one representing the audience, stuck in the middle between his OG dad's code of black-and-white ethics and the challenges of the modern day and all its greys. I never really 'felt' his struggle. The daughter, the rebel, off doing drugs and partying it up, is far more relatable and believable. And, to be fair, there are a lot of characters who will need another season or two to really flesh out. We met a lot of people, we only got to know a few in this first season. But that only makes me want more seasons. I am unfamiliar with the original comics, but I can tell there's a mountain's worth of content just waiting to be explored.

I for one am along for the ride.

A very solid entry into the superhero genre. A fun ride. I hope there are enough critics that feel the way I do that the show gets picked up for another season.

I LOVED it. The 1929 storyline is far superior than the comic storylines. I'm also glad they toned down the woke aspect. Critics are naturally annoyed by that. In my opinion, this story, lore, universe and characters are far better than The Boys. GREAT show. Thank you, Mark Millar!

The dialogue seems to have been written by an 8 year old.
The costume design seems to have been stolen from the Power Rangers.
The plot has more cheese than a Fromager, and stinks worse than rotten Roquefort.

Apparently, this was supposed to be for teens to mature audiences but falls decidedly into the 'window lickers' audience category.

Go watch The Boys again instead.

Had a lot of fun watching this series. I have been dropping series after watching just some episodes but watched the entire season in 3 days. This series reminds me of the cartoons of old, with rightful heroes and goofy villains. Costumes and special effects are really not that great but the end result is enjoyable. It is really a pity that it was cancelled.

In short, this entire first season feels like the opening act to another show, the ending note of the season is literally the beginning of the story.
I can see what they were trying to do, but they spread so little story out over the first six episodes and then rushed everything in the last two episodes without giving it room to breathe, at which point it ended abruptly.
Very odd, it felt like there should have been a lot more episodes in the season based on the progress they made in storytelling. In addition, most of the characters were very two dimensional, minus one or two stand out characters/actors. Especially the son who was "sort of" the main character but only had about 20 minutes screentime? and spent the rest of the season off screen "on the farm".

Not hopeful that there will be a second season but I would probably watch it if they did. 5/10

How far do you go to keep everyone you know safe? Do the rules mater any more? I think that the real issue with this show is the pacing the story takes as it washes back and forth from how the supers came to be to the present day as they where they are dealing with the "rules" problem. This device gets in the way of telling the story after a few episode. It reminds me of the CW Arrow that season after season told it's story through so much flashback that I eventually gave up on it. The show builds to something interesting, albeit fairly obvious, and then it just ends. It's a cliffhanger I guess, but I'm not sure if there will be more of these. With that said I'd still recommend it to anyone who is used to and can enjoy "Buffy" level production quality. Expand

Waste of time considering 8 episodes, The story is decent but the execution is mess, it felt usual superhero s*** but in cringe way upon that the action scenes and Cgi is just worst. The word A**h*** was unnecessarily overused felt like they are trying to be "The Boys" , The flasbacks scenes Production design felt authentic and amazing and the back and forth between present and past specially the past kept me hook at starting otherwise the starting episodes are just hard to watch, even strongest episodes were little dull for 10mins, The Characters were good and the acting is just brilliant specially in the flashbacks the walter is just brilliant, george is charming and sheldon is amazing, the presently acting of walter is awesome too specially the way it ends it was mind-blowing, others were decent. The union's code stuff felt way too focused and the central villian/conflict was missing all the season, the random superheroes was just like filler actors, The chloe's charcters action moments were badass but her drug stuff and her episode was worst, Brendon was decent as a sideline and the steelers group was fun, The parent child relationship specially at ends walters and her daughter stuff was just amazing, The starting 2 episodes were so dull it felt hard to watch then 3rd episode's flasback journey the madness of sheldon is amazing and the episode 4 is just worst and episode 5 the travel plan and overall journey towards island it felt fun, The episode 6 is decent and then episode 7 the strongest episode at times little dull but it was an awesome episode the adventure and origins is fun and the ending episode it was decent the george's as villian the brain fight and the jail fight then the twist at the end the walter's daughter's japan fight and overall her character was for short but awesome, The twist killing of her at last and walter's such twist is just mind-blowing, it made sense but didn't stick the landing to me as he was mature of them all at flashbacks, The season 2 if made it would be nice to know about the villianous journey of walter and the fate of george, although the 8 episodes for this season could've showned whole story but it was just this much, it felt strecthed. Overall it was a decent season, it was not that entertaining hard to watch at start and even complete but last 2 episodes and the flasback journey for some part makes the series watchable. Expand

However, it falls pretty flat in terms of visuals and storytelling. I found the best part of the series to be the origins story which shows how the original superheroes gained their powers but the decision to add in the dysfunctional modern families created pacing inconsistencies and a convoluted plot which became hard to follow, while you tried to piece together the past and the present. Had they been separate stories and timelines or even seasons, it would have been more fleshed out and better executed. After the first 3 episodes, it became a drag to watch till episode 7 when things began to escalate. The costumes also look like they were made from cheap materials instead of a more realistic look like how Superman's suit is darker. Think of it as Captain America's suit in Avengers 1, which was colorful and frankly, out of place and Captain America's suit in Civil War, which looked a lot better. The costumes from Jupiter's Legacy look like CA's suit in Avengers 1 and I think they would look better if they upgraded their suits for the next season. Overall, Jupiter's Legacy is ok. There are plenty of problems with America, and with the superhero genre’s relationship with violence and politics, but Jupiter’s Legacy doesn’t really address any of them. Like The Utopian himself, the show’s creators are stuck looking back at an imagined Golden Age, with no way to move forward and build something better.
