Oct 27, 2019Cringe-worthy, banal and gimmicky. Even the scenes with her family (probably with the aim to establish her as a likable character) don't offer much in saving her horrendous attempt at stand-up. A clear case of positive discrimination promoting mediocrity.

Oct 27, 2019Not sure if this a cleverly constructed anti-humorist comedy masquerading as weak comedy, or mediocre comedy produced with the sole aim to assert Netflix as an ethnic and gender inclusive platform. Either way, joke was on me.

Stage Fright succeeds because it oozes authenticity, thanks in part to a combination of Slate’s overwhelming joy and a display of deep vulnerability. ... The result is a heartwarming, hilarious, and revealing hour that encapsulates all the good and bad that have made Jenny, Jenny.

A refreshingly unique, consistently entertaining, and sometimes over-loose special.

The final leg of Slate’s stand-up does feel like a sum that’s doing its best to capitalize on all of the hour’s many parts; it’s a joke about the moon that’s even better for the time we’ve spent getting to know Slate behind the scenes. As for the rest of it, Stage Fright is a beautiful, personal hour. But I’m left wondering if I needed to know quite this much.
