    I didn't expect to like it -- but it was fresh, brilliantly funny for kids and adults, mildly irreverent, and full of quotable gag lines that have become part of the holiday vocabulary for my kids and me.

    The first Xmas special to have the snarkiness of The Simpsons. Love it! This is totally written for grownups or teens, lots of old pop culture references and clever jokes, like a hip-hop Easter Bunny who raps (backed up by his Peeps), a Woody Allen-inspired neurotic groundhog, even a flashback to newsreel-style footage from the 1940s big band era.

    Ultimately, though, it all feels a bit more clever on the page than the screen, and the music becomes too much of a good thing, given its ubiquity.

    Despite chuckles here and there, the special's sensibility will probably hold more appeal for viewers closer to Murray's age than the boys and girls looking for something to watch and re-watch.
