Homeland is back! Powerful, relevant and consistently one of the best shows on TV. Claire Danes is a force of nature. A must see!!!

great start of the show, loved the last shot, acting at its finest; they really built something great with this new / old story line

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 8 is now 4 episodes in, and seems to have run out of ideas. We're seeing much of the same things we see each season. I would have hoped with a short number of episodes we would see some new trade-craft or unexpected twists and turns. Instead we get the same Carrie ordeals, Max unable to speak more then a single sentence here and there... Did they run out of budget for something that actually looks like a Firebase in this episode? ...and the whole helicopters ending (I don't want to give to much away) was very disappointing. Expand

Now that the final season showing has completed it can be said that it was a pretty good last run of episodes -> certainly one of the stronger in the series. Once the show got out of "Brody mode" it was able to feed into the pulse of current events and even though it had flaws, that's what made it watchable and interesting. From the migrant crisis to social media election manipulation and the alt-right it was able to hold up a mirror. The finale episode and its ending was a bit Hollywood but pretty decent in itself. Hasta la vista Homeland. Expand

Ho Meh Land....Title needs an extra "h"....Very boring, lazy, clichéd, badly acted first episode. (Claire Danes is such an overrated actress)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Homeland’s final chapter rivals season 4 and 5 in its intensity and quality, ending the brilliant series on a strong note. It sticks the landing by bringing us full-circle - paralleling Carrie’s journey with that of Brody’s, and presenting a similar scenario to pre-Iraq invasion. The show continues to deftly balance the defense of “facts on the ground,” the layered criticism of US foreign policy, and the riveting spy games of our beloved Carrie and Saul. Expand

Could not have ended more perfectly. But I'm still so sad to see it go. Farewell, Carrie & Saul; you will be missed.

Its return last night, I'm sad to say, felt like an irritating houseguest who has outstayed their welcome and is telling the same anecdotes, over and over again.

It’s well built. But all its life comes from Danes. Mathison’s troubled mind has always been a metaphor for government intelligence: brilliant but unreliable, vital but dangerous. Danes’ performance animates not only the scenes but the ones she is not in, too, and every time she’s out of shot you crave her return.

When she slips into operative mode with the ease of a worn-in suit have an extra level of tension to them: the world, dangerous as it is, is not what it was any more than she is the same woman she once was. ... She can also be cold and cruel and create stupendous debacles out of her bad decision-making. In that way, however, she's also the personification of what makes the series worth seeing to its end after nine long years, that the personal frames of mind from which a few people operate can end up determining whether million of people will live in peace or suffer under years of conflict.
