They added a lot of interesting lore, history, rules and lots of memorable characters. Be warned: Its the story of Duncan Mac Leod (Adrian Paul) not Connor Mac Leod (Christopher Lambert). This might be a no go for many but I will stand my ground and say that Adrian Paul was the right choice. He grows into the role and delivers the weight of his immortal live. You get melancholy, the weight of bitter decisions, past mistakes (You can not live for centuries without making errors or enemies), regret but also hope, friendship, gentleness and an undying will to do what is right (No pun intended). He is an example for a hero that still continues even when he has seen the worst of humanity and history but also received damages to his soul. Then we have Richie Ryan (Stan Kirsch) who has an interesting arc and character development which I hate not to reveal because of mayor spoilers. There is Tessa Noel (Alexandra Vandernoot) who is his mortal significant other. They deal a lot with the problems of being immortal when all others are mortal. Later we got Amanda (Elisabeth Gracen), Methos (Peter Wingfield), Hugh Fitzcairn (Roger Daltrey) and Joe Dawson (Jim Brynes). All four are good additions to the series and have their unique characters, backstories and secrets. I want to praise the chemistry between Duncan, Amanda and Fitzcairn. They added a lot of humour. I forgot to mention Darius (Werner Stocker) who is an immortal and a priest. He should had a bigger role because he was an intresting character (Can not go into details because of to much spoilers.)I will stop here by saying they got the right actors for all roles and will go to the villains. They have a good variety of enjoyable villains. We got James Horton who gave in to fanaticism and tries to save the world for the sake of good. He is a good character study for this. We have Xavier St Cloud an enemy Duncan had for centuries who is a villain that enjoys his deeds and delivers this in his performance. Then there is Kalas who wants revenge because Duncan took away the one thing he cherish more than his immortal live. Later we got the horseman and the interesting battle with Ahriman. There are more good villains but the review will got to long if I don't stop here. The best strength is that they bring the past into the present via flashbacks. As I said before you made many decisions when you live for centuries and try to be a hero or simply choose the right side. A lot of episodes deal with past conflicts, mistakes, interactions or deals / promises. At this point I must say that the settings and costumes look beautiful. I don't know if they are historical correct but it looked like a lot of hard work and effort was put into. Then there are the fights. They deliver well done martial arts and of cause swordplay. There was no boring battle in the series. When you say Highlander you must also say Queen. Princes of the Universe is just awesome. Freddy Mercury was a legend and one of the best artist we had. The overall score is really good and I often searched for some songs on the internet. They got also a good sense of humour especially in the later seasons. Overall this was my favourite series in my youth and you can call me a fanboy in this case. I own all seasons on DVD and rewatch my favourite episodes once in a while. I will give 10/10 and will admit that this is not an unbiased but also honest opinion. Expand
