The stories seems earthbound and real before the supernatural gets introduced.
So it nails the underrated ability to make you care about characters and world before the supernatural gets introduced

Kind of sad to see once the Name "Guillermo del Toro" is attached to just about anything - it might even be day-old bread that needs to be sold - people are interested. That's how "Hollywood" and its extended online arm the likes of Netflix works I guess.

I am a much bigger fan of Bobcat Goldthwait's shot at Anthology in the form of "Misfits & Monsters" - that did not get enough

I am a much bigger fan of Bobcat Goldthwait's shot at Anthology in the form of "Misfits & Monsters" - that did not get enough attention since of course the name doesn't ring as much as a bell as GDT's. And of course, if you tell someone "I liked that strange long haired noise guy from Police Academy's rise as a director, he really found his voice in this Horror Anthology" you'd get strange looks best case, admitted to the loony bin worst case. No, really watch "Misfits & Monsters" - you'll like its offerings way more than this if you love Satire, dark humor and good writing.

That said, the "Cabinet of Curiosities" is an "OK to good" scare anthology with a mixed bag of stories, as these things go. All marketed to perfection and with great visuals and f/x, narrated by the aforementioned interest-generating Grandmaster, but directed by others mainly.

Lot 36 starts strong and there are some good episodes following - it'll entertain the masses and do it's thing.

I'd prefer if NF was getting a bit more gutsy since they're bleeding subscriptions left and right instead of trying to be Hollywood Online by attaching "big names" to things.

Stranger Things wouldn't have existed if it was "Guillermo del Toros - Stuff that is weird and might sound a tad bit odd to the general audiences its targeted at" (or somesuch thing).

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities is fantastic, terrifying and magical for being a wonderful project

It’s pretty “meh.” Uninspired, derivative, with little creep factor. They’ve butchered two of Lovecraft’s stories. I was excited to see Guillermo Del Toro attached to this, but all he really did is lend his name. If you are a Lovecraft or Guillermo fan you should avoid this.

I've only watched the third episode so far. Great script, acting and storyline. Need for 2nd season! Thank you Guillermo del Toro.

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities is possibly the worst collection of stories i have ever seen "The Viewing" is particularly bad but only just "The Outside" is also complete rubbish the only half decent one would be The Autopsy". How anyone can call these terrifying is a joke and some of the acting was pathetic very disappointing. Any critic on here giving this a high score mustGuillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities is possibly the worst collection of stories i have ever seen "The Viewing" is particularly bad but only just "The Outside" is also complete rubbish the only half decent one would be The Autopsy". Plenty of creepy horror, great effects and interesting characters. But, it lacks depth, particularly when it comes to the stories. Little to nothing is elaborated upon beyond some abstract one-liner explanations that often make no sense and border on being kind of ridiculous.

So, while watching these I often started out by getting dragged into the universe being painted by each episode.

So, while watching these I often started out by getting dragged into the universe being painted by each episode. And all kinds of questions started forming in my head. And I would get excited to see how they would explain everything. But after a few episodes it became very clear that there simply were no explanations. They just end abruptly with some weird cliffhanger'esque fade-to-black endings. Quite disappointing.

But, they are well-made and well-acted. So I would still recommend watching the first 4-5 episodes just for the atmosphere and characters alone.

I love Guillermo Del Toro but this wasn't it. Very basic almost cheesy horror. The characters and set-ups lack originality and depth. Every episode felt done.

I didn't like it at all. Boring and not scary. Ridiculous stories and not too good acting either.

It was nice to see actors Crispin Glover, Peter Weller and Murray Abraham. Crispin Glover is a scene stealing, underrated, actor! Murray Abraham is also a standout with strong method acting. Peter Weller is a strong character in all the films I have scene of him.

My favorite so far is “Graveyard Rats”. The Autopsy is a close second!! Hopefully, there are more seasons. If they keep it up with this level of quality, Cabinet of Curiosities could be one of the best Horror Series on TV.

Everything about this feels like a first draft. None of the short stories are well fleshed out. They all feel incomplete and cheesy. The ideas are interesting, but they all clearly needed more time, more development or more talented people to make them good. None of them are entirely horrible, but overall second rate tv quality akin to 90s cable shows.

En mi opinión los mejores son el 3 y el 5, del resto, no… aburridos, ideas trilladas, clichés del género, hay varios que son pésimos y con tramas absurdas

stylish, over the top Del Toro stuff. stories were ok enough. but some of the acting was so bad, it was actually distracting. kind of couldn’t wait for it to be over.

Guillermo del Toro mastermind's a cool horror anthology that relies mostly on practical effects to show us the dark corners of humanity. These shorts vary in quality and tone, but most of them deliver, especially 'The Autopsy,' 'The Viewing,' and 'Pickman's Model.' The 'Twilight Zone' format has proven to be a fantastic match for del Toro's creativity.

I liked maybe two out of eight episodes, three were mostly okay but a bit boring, and three were absolutely awful. Mostly, this was an interesting concept. Also, I was quite bored for most of the time..

Wow. If you are a fan of Lovecraft type stories the graveyard rats and lot 36 are a welcome sight in a film industry that has been lacking good unknown terror. I can't wait to see more episodes, but so far this show is as good as the rings of power is bad.

Two episodes were great (Autopsy - probably my favorite of the bunch - and Murmuring - although Murmuring is somewhat off tone from the rest of the series) and two were truly haunting (Pickman's Model and The Viewing - which I may have enjoyed more than most, it was like Tarantino meets Lovecraft). The rest were fairly forgettable for one reason or the other - the cinematography was pretty consistently fantastic, though. Even with the above four episodes being less than half of the episodes in the series, I still thought this was one of the better anthology horror series in a while. I'd love to see more stories via a season 2. Expand

As vanity projects go, his series is considerably less imperious than Hitchcock’s, but it also feels far less likely to make a mark in the long run, or even in its own accelerated, pop-cultural moment.

With contributions from horror luminaries such as Ana Lily Armipour (A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night), the visionary Panos Cosmatos (Mandy) and Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), and stars like Dan Stevens and F. Murray Abraham, there’s a good deal of hope that the series might transcend its conventional presentation and predictability to offer something a little more substantial.

All in all, Cabinet of Curiosities works because it's just that: A grab bag of different stories, linked together tenuously by del Toro. We never linger too long in one place, and horror benefits from the shadows that it can hide in.
