Gossip Girl reboot (season 1 and 2)

After twenty two episodes gossip girl has been a show devoid of direction. After twenty two episodes gossip girl has been a show devoid of direction. It staggers, hops, runs and crawls all at once, and it's sure to leave audiences dazed at the sheer number of ridiculousness they're dished with each episode.

The characters are unoriginal and are portrayed by pretty but boring actors. The plot is rudderless and meanders without sense. Subplots are picked and dropped faster than the characters and viewers can comprehend, and the incredulous manner the story moves on doesn't help.

The best thing about gossip girl is the soundtrack, it's very modern and apt to the scenes they're employed in.

It comes with no surprise that the series has been cancelled after two seasons (longer than I thought).

The teens feel less like Gen Z caricatures and finally have problems worthy of our attention.

With the reboot bringing back old characters from the original series, it’s safe to say that Gossip Girl is acknowledging at least some of the problems that made its first season such a harrowing disappointment. And at least there have at least been efforts to fix them. Though it’s a vacant endeavor, the fan service at least buys the show some time. But like the characters themselves say aloud in their cringey, internet-speak: Gossip Girl is in her flop era.

Overall, the whole production seems much more comfortable in its second outing. Many characters feel more lived-in and less reductive, and the writing has gotten much funnier.
