While it has it's problems the show manages to maintain interest throughout. The main question: "Is he or isn't he?" remains hanging in the air as the series ends. The main question: "Is he or isn't he?" remains hanging in the air as the series ends. As a Family Therapist I found plenty of grist for the mill here. Dysfunction galore, secrets galore, many RUFKM moments. The story is told with the intent to tease it's audience. Brief flashbacks, information gleaned to wreck the relationship briefly explained away, relevant issues ignored, there's enough stuff to yell at the TV about.
A brave-heavier-Julia Ormond, manages a good job of being a little too foggy to see the warning signs of the attentions of a much younger man, and bats away her family's constant attempts to unmask (the scoundrel!) and give the heave ho to him. The writers deliberatly avoid the Elephants in the room (she's rich, he's poor; she's upper middle class, he's lower class) and try and make LOVE the issue. Take your pick!
